    Being a petite size romantic body type is difficult to dress today. Shirts are always a problem. The bust, armpits, arm length, and waist are always out of proportion. Most clothes I want to wear don't offer petite sizes. When you're short, it's hard to find clothes unless you are a size 2. And proportions hitting you at the right spot makes all the difference. If the clothes don't fit right, you look dumpy.

      'pettite dressing" on yt has some good tips. I think she also has. A specialized brand that makes clothes for people up to 5'3'. Also great hacks on tik tok to sinch,ajust clothes if you can't afford tailoring

      Ive actually brag to people about how easy it is to shop as a romantic in this era. Most fabrics are stretch so sizing isn’t too complex. Being Curvy is very trendy so most clothes are designed to appear rounded. It’s only this past year or two with collections by Valentino and A. McQueen that I’ve seen fashion being made for exclusively flamboyant/dramatic types hitting the runaway. Everything else since at least 2010 has been curves curves curves.

    • @virginia6793
      @virginia6793 Před 2 lety +22

      @@ProcrastPerfection i want clothes that are not stretchy. I want tailored pieces. You can be a petite with a long torso and only have a problem with leg length. A short torso looks great in bathingsuits, but shirts are torture. They are made for the average height woman.

    • @justmyself7135
      @justmyself7135 Před 2 lety +5

      Right!! Like l get a small but then because of the curves and roundness us romantics have you need to take to account the bust and hip area . It's frustrating l told the lady working in a shop that l want a small and she told me "even if you ask for a small l would give you a medium because you can't be a small" the she saw my height and weight and said "but you look heavier than that" and she coerced me into buying a medium l tired it on and cried at the way it fit. It was wide and droopy at the shoulders and dragged down. I need to tailor it now. It's a struggle when you try to love your body but the only thing people know is the usual s,m,l sizes.

  • @chickadddee
    @chickadddee Před 2 lety +52

    This confirms my feeling that a Romantic can borrow from Soft Classic more easily than from a Theatrical Romantic. I also embraced tweaking and tailoring certain items a long time ago. It really helps! Buy less but alter more :)

    Great photo examples of how you can wear a style outside your Kibbe type while staying true to your own essence. Marilyn dipping into the classic style clothes without looking odd or too removed from her romantic essence. I did notice that she was full on romantic when out in public and saved her casual classic style for in private.

    Marilyn was very blessed to live when she did! It’s very hard to find beautiful clothing for a “romantic”! My figure is much like Marilyns. However I’m much older now! The waist definitely isn’t as cinched as it is to be! It makes it ALLOT harder to dress the way I used to! I even have some beautiful suits from the 40s, that totally accentuate your body, without exposing anything!

    Lovely video! I really like how you go in depth in her actual style, not the over the top representations we usually see, that were often costumes in the movies she was in.
    Would you consider making a video reviewing the style of the female characters in Mad Men under a Kibbe lens? I think that would be amazing. There are a lot of different women with very different types there and the fashion is wonderful. I'd love to see the lesser known characters as well (Rachel Menken, Dr. Faye, Helen Bishop, Trudy Campbell, Dawn) even if briefly, alongside the top four (Joan, Peggy, Betty, and Megan).

    My husband loves Marilyn Monroe. He thinks she is the epitome of beauty. He connected with that wanting to protect and help her mentality most men in her day had. ( because of how her childhood was and how the Kennedys used her). He found out years after he started a collection about her that he shares a birthday with her as well! Thank you for sharing!

    I'm a Romantic and I love Marylin Monroe. It is true that stripes have always looked harsh on me and I used to not know why. Then, at 15/16 I tried on a similar blouse (on the right) as she is wearing at 6:25. The collar of my blouse is more simple and there are 2 strips to knot at the level of the décolleté. First time that I liked stripes on me so I bought it. It was cheap also. The fabric is soft and feminine in contrast to the motif.
    4 years ago I found out about Kibby Styles through your channel and it has helped me tremendously to improve my personal style and my confidence.
    Anyway, all of this to say that I still wear it despite not fitting perfectly my body type.

    I know this isn't exactly related to this video, I apologize. but am really needing some help and I just don't know where to go with this. Due to a very sudden hysterectomy for cancer, i also went into a sudden menopause along with other issues I already had. I was comfortable with my more pear shape (with shoulders that made me look more like an hourglass), but there is suddenly and apple in the mix with the pear shape (an apple and pear at the same time) and I am not hugely overweight, but I cannot dress the way I always have. I do not feel ok in my skin and cannot seem to dress right for this shape- or embrace it. So a huge conundrum. I always thought I was longer waisted, but fear I am not because I suffocate in high waist jeans. I like low rise and they don't look bad on me, even tho I have a lot of hips. My likes are boho and jeans mostly- maybe maxi dresses. Just wish I atleast had a clue where to go or look. I have to find a way to flatter this new me enough to atleast be comfortable. Bless you. I love your videos (I realize, I am not using the terms described in your videos about shape. I am very slow at learning to wrap my head around the, newer to me, terms. Many blessings!

    its so hard to find clothes that i like without it not fitting me. I am very short, a romantic, and every clothing that fit my aesthetic is very hard to find. At H&M i find jeans that are size 38+ (european) while i am a size 34. Shirts too, all of them are gigantic on me! clothes are now only made for tall, lean women

    Hey! I have a question!!!! I’m a romantic myself but I adore gothic and emo fashion with all my heart. I want to dress like that and incorporate it into my every day life but I don’t really know how to do that with a romantic body type, seeing as emo and gothic fashion is known for being more extreme. Help!!!!

      Waist empasizing, even corsets or big belts, makeup blended (but not on a big surface), neat slightly rounded brows, some shine (either glossy lip or tiny amount of shimmer on eyelids), add some neat voluminous curls to the hair, some blush on the cheeks, interesting small ornate jewerly, wispy lashes. I suspect I am romantic and this is what i do and look best in. Let me know how it goes ❤️

    • @manicpanic7423
      @manicpanic7423 Před rokem +1

      Also, I line mi eyes only on d upper lashline, first i blend dark brown shadow close to the lashes, then i add a black liquid eyeliner line (I personally don't do wing because my eyes are verry hooded, but I do mi eyelashes long and wispy, even when putting on false eyelashes)
      Doing dark lip to accentuate the shape of the lips, put some gloss on

      as someone with a romantic body type, my ankles and wrists are only slightly wide. but lets say they were actually quite narrow, it would not change anything because kibbe focuses on the overall appearance, not the minor details. some romantics might have thin wrists and ankles and others might not !

    • @velmavlogs7693
      @velmavlogs7693 Před 2 lety

      No, they are small overall. The ‘slightly widish’ phrase that’s always used can be misleading, as there’s nothing heavy looking about R, it just means not sharp.
      I am R and even at a higher weight, have dainty wrists.

    • @sarahgabour1
      @sarahgabour1 Před 2 lety

      @@velmavlogs7693 as i said, that may be the case for many romantics, but its not going to apply to each and every one of them. it is the overall look of how fabric drapes on your body, not every minuscule detail. im saying this for anyone thats still struggling to find their body type, have found one that mostly applies to them, but with one or two aspects that do not apply to their body. if a few aspects of a certain kibbe body type dont describe you but every other description fits you and there is no other body type that describes you better then you are that body type

    • @LIVE4DLAUGHS
      @LIVE4DLAUGHS Před 2 lety

      Yes true romantics can have wider wrists and ankle bones, theatrical romantics are supposed to have thinner bones. Taller women can be thinner boned than romantics.

    Hello I have a question; when Marilyn lost a lot of weight in the 60's, is she still considered to be a Romantic Kibbie body type? I'm a Theatrical Romantic kibbie, as I am a small hourglass shape with sharper lines. Thank you!

      Kibbe body Type doesn't change with a weight. Actually it doesn't depend on weight but mostly on a bone structure and a flesh on the top. Check out some Aly's videos about Kibbe.

      I don't think she ever looked like a clown. She did her makeup for the black and white photography of the day. There was a photo shoot she hated and she was right to criticize the outcome, but it was all in color with garish lighting and it didn't do any justice to her. She was pretty radiant with her red lips and short hair
