Always interesting to me to see these older laptops do things today. I did a video myself a few months ago on the 2015 Alienware R15 with an i7 6700HQ and GTX 970m. 970m so far seems to still have current drivers. Was able to run Doom eternal quite alright actually. and as of recent. with FidelityFX CAS at 1080p low, was able to at least get 40fps targeted about 95% of the time while still looking pretty decent. Smaller screen also helps.
Not sure if troon or hideous hole.
Regardless, YWNBAW.
edit:ok it's a troon with breast implants LMAOOOOO
Now it's 9 years :( whyyyyyy world
Perfectly acceptable performance even in 2023 considering how old the hardware is, at 1080p I'd be totally happy.
I bought this exact model half a year ago for £300. Best money spent ever. Fantastic size and still plays so many games. The screen is just gorgeous and very good from productivity standpoint because of its massive resolution. You still is decent and holds up along with a 1050. Funny thing is if you don't have crazy high expectation and you play at 1080p it will do just fine. I even use mine for be and it does admirably well in beatsaber and fallout
I have had a razor blade 15 almost since launch. Although a year younger it’s almost exactly the same. My laptop has run like a dream for studies and gaming alike. My whole setup runs off it and plays 90% of games fine. Although very price when I bought it, it’s definitely lived up to the price tag
Nice Video. I still got my RB from 2017 and I m realy happy with it. And hopefully I ll keep ist for another 3 years.
Damn! I remember having a gaming laptop that had two 880m cards running in SLI and it destroyed everything at the time at 1080p. It was an MSI laptop with an actual mechanical keyboard, I forget the proper name for it. It weighed a freaking ton and cost a small fortune, but at that time I felt so lucky to own it.
MSI GT80 TITAN SLI 18 inches just like the Alienware 18 R3 with dual 980M 8GB SLI

For an added bonus, you can direct swap the 2015 system board into to get 16gb of memory and a gtx 970 though minor cpu upgrade. I did that with my 2014 blade. Seems to actually run cooler or at least quieter than before. I had major issues with battery and keyboard failures early on which was a huge pain to get parts for thanks to razer's nearly complete lack of reasonable support. A nice laptop when it stays working though.
Nice to see. I just got the 2022 Razer 15 Advanced. It cost quite a lot so I really want it to hold up. Thanks.

I just stumbled upon this video. I'm still using my Lenovo X230 from around 2013 as a daily driver. It is still a really usable machine (I'm not gaming with it). Old laptops can really be used for a long time, when they are build well.
thats the same laptop i use for school, and it runs flawlessly for me
Keep it up, you make the best electronic videos!
The 830m, 840m, 850m, and 860m all have current up to date driver support as they are based on the Maxwell architecture. The other 8xxm series cards are based on the Kepler architecture, which was specifically discontinued for support as it is much older.
Honestly, seeing my experiences with other laptops the temps on that one are high but not terrible. Considering it's 6 years old and it's super slim and sleek.
Funny enough, my old laptop had a GTX 860m in and it was based on the Maxwell architecture instead (GM107). There was a Kepler version too, but the maxwell seems to have kept getting updated, at the time of writing it had a new driver 9/11/2020.
I didn’t search for you but the geek in me is happy CZcams found you!
Still using my 2014 Sager that had a 870m as well. Dropped a 970m and i7 4940 extreme from eBay in, still games really well and getting regular driver updates in geforce experience

" I don't think I'm the first person to dig aroud in here"
Soooo many **giggity** moments.
Hahaha!! I clearly have a bit of a problem. 😅
I love laptops from 2012 to 2015. They are always fun to benchmark. Drivers truely are a huge problem.
Back in Xmas of 2015 I got a 2015 blade. It has been the best laptop I have ever owned. Still chugging along to this day. It was my daily driver for the first 3 years of its life, I then moved homes and built a beastly desktop rig. The blade is now my travel rig. Use it for media consumption and light gaming when visiting friends\family. I have also used it as a LAN server for various games. Best laptop I have ever owned and still own.
I repasted it a year ago and that helped temps. (Still warm though)
To me. Buying something like this and getting a laptop that lasts you 5+ years is a better option than one of those cheapy plastic ones that burn out in 2-3 years ( my old HP laptops had that trend. $800-$1000 and it craps out in 2 years vs the then $2000 blade that still operates to this day.)
If I still needed a laptop for compact gaming. I'd get a newer blade. But I have the space for a desktop rig and that is my main driver since I have moved to a larger home. If my 2015 blade ever dies, I may look into razers stealth line because it's nice to have a mobile unit that can at least play some games and watch streaming services when not at home.
Good stuff as always man! Thanks for delivering content for people that have a wallet that is constrained by the real world.
I still use a 7 year old lenovo from 2013 for music production with an i7-4700MQ, 16GB of RAM and GTX840M, i pushed the i7 even further with undervolting and now i beat the 2600K in Geekbench. Basically no fan noise, the CPU has a socket, and has 2 RAM slots.
The most reliable computer that i ever used in my life for now, has a CD reader and i will replaced it with an SSD. The only weakness is battery but the wear is very minimal to none after all of these years with magical lenovo software.
Anything below the GTX1050 is simply not good for modern gaming, 4700MQ is enough, the rest of the high end mobile quadcores of the Haswell Intel generation don't make sense.
I have a 1080p Razer Blade from 2016 with a 1060 in it and I gotta say it's aged very well so far. Buttons on the track pad are broken too and it does run hot but it very much runs.

I've got an MSI GT72 with a 980M from 2014, I'm surprised how well it's held up. Gaming laptops aren't the joke they used to be.
I imagine that Nvidia stopped supporting this laptop because like you said there was no desktop equivalent card. Usually stuff that goes into laptops doesn't last long in terms of driver support. Unless its a mass produced thing like the Intel UHD graphics drivers because they've been using the same UHD 630 for 4 years.

Nice content as always! I am genuinely surprised that Nvidia has ended support for their mobile GPUs. That seems extremely suspect.
I'd love to see you mess around with some Liquid Metal in this laptop, to see how that affects performance and temperatures.
I bought a Acer aspire from 2014 with a i7 47 something and a 840 Nvidia GPU, 8gb ram, not soldered. For 200 €. Runs great! I ran older game's. Elder Scrolls and stuff from that times. These things are great!
I still have an OG 2013 razer 14" blade with gtx 765. Gave it to my brother to take to LAN parties at his friends' houses (he has a main desktop rig). Holds up well in games like Skyrim, LoL, CS:GO, Valorant, Starcraft, Stelaris, etc. Really chugs at games like Apex, PUBG, Witcher.
I'd actually want one of these (with a fresh battery) for just normal laptop things. This being a former gaming flagship would probably offer a pretty neat usability experience at a hopefully better price than a modern low to midrange model.
Sure would
that’s a pretty good idea.
Much better than integrated graphics on these thin and light windows notebooks for sure

I dislike the fact that nvidia is kneecapping hardware that otherwise would still function.
@Papa Shanghoe Okay. So, discontinuing support for drivers in games it could theoretically run relatively well- even if at lower settings. Isn't knee capping? Then what is, disabling a gpu's ability to give some of these games a run then?
damn this laptop is seexy looking and the performance bro its just amazing
I'm pretty shocked and surprised that the Nvidia 870m/880m driver support is dead and gone. I have the Asus Rog Strix 1080p 17inch version with the 860m Maxwell version and still have current driver support. (i just checked for driver support watching this ) This planned obsolescence from Nvidia really chaps my #$^%. These Intel Haswell based i7 laptops still have some gaming chops today. Thanks for the cool informative video Dawid!

Those days Razer were quality.. These days Razer is overpriced
@@ladboii2901 The kind of performance they’re pushing and the beautiful form factor and aesthetics they bring, I think they are honestly warranted to be $1500-2000. It is as thin and nice looking as a MacBook Pro, but pumps out the strongest mobile gaming performance possible, and you’re paying for the cosmetics mostly, because most gaming laptops that put out similar performance are horrendously chunky, ugly, and tacky looking. To get a similar MacBook in specs, you’d be spending $3,000+++
I got a blade pro 2019 early this year and it's amazing!
The fix for the heatsink is to use a copper shim and solder the copper shim using Solder Paste (138c melting point lead), Heat Gun and Clamps/Vice Grips. Apply solder paste onto the copper pipes, then place the coppershim while pushing it down with your fingers then let the clamps hold it in place and heat it up. Once it reaches 138c for both the copper shim of the cpu and gpu and the solder has melted with a shiny finish, let it cool down and you can re apply the thermal paste. The issue with the stock heatsink is that once you take out the factory thermal paste, it's still bound to overheat due to the airgaps in between the copper pipes by which it won't last in the long run even if it's reapplied again.
This is pretty interesting. I have a Gigabyte p15 v5 (a hand me down gaming laptop from my dad) and it's got a gtx 950m which is literally one year newer than the 800m series and yet has full up to date drivers (despite being, likely, a much worse gpu).

My old laptop has a 850m, so the thing is drivers are constructed based on a gpu architecture, 870m is actually has a older "Kepler" architecture which 7xx series based on but if you use 850m or 860m Maxwell variant, they have much more recent (Dec 15 2020) drivers, also these cards are more like nerfed 950m-960m as 950m-960m are same architecture with similar layouts only slightly better optimized thus they have faster clock speeds at the same thermal design power.
The only issue? The battery will explode 😂 Had one of these and even with a cooling pad the battery bloat was crazy! New gen razer blades are better in that respect!
3:08 one thing I did is up side down my phone
I have a razer blade 15, its so thin and beautiful, its got MacBook like quality and slim-ness, but it will tackle the toughest games and barely break a sweat, razer gets a lot of flack, but I personally think they make the best laptops on the market, and they’re subtle and nice looking, not horrendously bulky and tacky like most gaming laptops. Obviously a nice PC tower would demolish it, but for a laptop its very impressive....it’ll just set you back about $1900 though. Not for the faint of heart, but I like being able to game wherever!!!

I work with Dell Precision laptops from 2011-2014 and, surprisingly, the strongest card they natively support still has driver support up to 2020. Even more surprising, that card is an AMD Firepro M6100 from 2013, which you can still find Radeon Pro drivers for on AMD's website. However, I have seen others put like GTX 980's in these things and experience superior driver compatibility.

"this is console like framerate" do this guy know that bf5 runs at 60 fps at consoles?
I was gonna mention that too, just played some earlier today on my xbox one s and it ran at 60 fps with an occasional dip from rendering/many things happening all at once. I think that Dawid was poking fun at the fact most games on consoles are locked at 59 fps and cant go above 60 so he basically just dissed console gamers.

Hey, I actually just did a wipe and reinstall yesterday on my 2015 ROG G751JY laptop (4710HQ CPU, 24GB RAM, GTX980M), and think I found a workaround to the Nvidia driver issue you highlighted.
Just installing the latest Windows 10 correctly identified the GPU in Device Manager, so with no specific 980M driver listed on the Nvidia website, I just installed GeForce Experience instead. GFE immediately popped up with a Driver update, which I installed. Letting GFE do it's thing I do believe should have installed the correct optimized graphics driver for my laptop.
My 2nd choice would have been to install the driver from the ASUS support page for my laptop model, but it could have been older than what Windows had already installed, so I figured GFE was the better way.
Still own this laptop, GPU has some power / overheating issue that causes the laptop to shut down when it used and the trackpad does not work anymore. but aside from that, love it and had a great experience. cpu still running nice and smooth in most cases.
