  • Just a few thoughts on whether placing a matte screen protector on your M1 MacBook Pro is worth it. This video really applies to any MacBook model as they all feature glossy screens.

    I was watching this video because I am considering buying this same porotector for my Bacbook Pro 14 to avoid delamination and if I ever sell it I can offer it in the best possible conditions and also because I don't like shiny-glossy screens. But reading a comment about the damage to the laminate that Apple installs, I remembered that I have a faulty Macbook Pro 13 with a matte protector since I bought it in 2014. I just removed it just to prove his point and he is absolutely right. The glue created a "map" with all the laminate that stuck to the protector. I don't know if Apple have changed the lamination procedures or if the protectors have improved the quality to avoid this damage, but now I don't dare to risk it. Be careful.

    Im from a sunny place and usually take my m1 air out with me.
    I was literally thinking of selling it away cause i am starting to despise the glossy screen. You literally cannot see anything.
    Just see the difference at 4:19, from having some minor light coming in, you are still able to see the screen and get some work done.
    When you took it off you immediately saw your own reflection. The macbook screens are so glossy its like a mirror almost.

    I think you have to clean the screen before installing it. After clean the screen by using microfiber, you have to use scotch tape to pull the dust seeing in the sunlight. In my country, everything must have a case or screen protector, it is usual custom :). By the way, thank you for your video ^_^

    UPDATE: So several people have mentioned the "delamination" issue when using a screen protector with MacBooks. This occurs when a screen protector is removed from the screen, often times removing an anti-glare coating from the screen too.
    Although I did not have this issue, some research into it would be wise. My protector was installed for less than 1 day with no issues. However, it's something to be aware of when using a screen protector with any Apple laptop.

    What windows laptop are you talking about? High end windows laptops are just as good if not better than macbook displays. Things are rocking 4k OLED panels (dell xps line, HP spectre line, and samsung ultrabooks) with the only downside on some of the PC line being refresh rate (samsung is doing 120hz though). Try it, it will help with your research too instead of making baseless claims.

    • @thetechtive9078
      @thetechtive9078  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah that's true. Modern Windows options have a ton of 4K, OLED, touchscreen, or other types of glossy panels. However, that wasn't always the case. Majority of PCs over the years were matte whereas nearly all MacBooks have been glossy. But yeah now with all the different screen options, I don't think you can state Windows laptops are still all rocking matte displays

      BE VERY VERY CAREFUL!, I peeled my screen protector for replacement from the side of the screen, ended up with a chipped display on the side. its pain in the ass to replace it once it adheres to the screen, If there is a good solution to remove the screen protector without using my nails to peel from the side, it would be amazing. Maybe next time i'll try peeling it off with a strong tape by sticking to the side of it instead of my nails scratching it out from the sides.

      as laptops are getting thinner, the tolerances are so tight between the screen and keyboard that if there is any pressure applied to the laptop, it's possible for the keyboard to dig into the screen. Over time this results in an imprint of your keyboard on the screen and it cannot be fixed without replacing the screen.

    exactly what is the best screen protector? I just realized that I think I made a mistake and that is that the screen protector I bought is a GLASSPro premium tempered; Which I just realized is a bit thick and it's bordering on the edges of the screen and I think it can touch the keyboard with as little pressure as you can put on the laptop when it's closed. I think I shouldn't have bought something that thick. No experience but I think I learned something new. Another thing is that when I tried to remove it to adjust it, the screen moved like a wave, I would be scared if I wanted to remove it over time, this would break my screen.(?)
