Hi man. You can't imagine how helpful your videos are. I'm watching you from the other half of this planet and glad that you are willing to share your knowledge for us.
Thanks a lot.
Hey Mark, that's awesome! Thanks for watching

I like the training aid you used. Just an hour ago I repaired a dim HVAC display by re-soldering the resistors. You and other techs that share your skills as helped me a lot. I appreciate that Mike.
I used to own a 1986 Corvette in the late 1990s. These had the digital dashboards and were very problematic. Mine would go dim sometimes but always do to a bump in the road. I pulled the multi-later boards out (which was simple) and re-soldered each capacitor. It was as bright as the heavens afterwards!
Hey Wyatt, thanks man! Appreciate that! Amazing what a little solder can do...or in my case, didn't haha!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Thanks for the video series! I watched them all and learned a tonne. Cheers!
This is a great video Mike! I really appreciate it when other tech's share their thoughts and approach to a problem!
Keep up the great work man!
These videos are extremely helpful and we greatly appreciate you taking the time and effort to make them. Can’t wait for the next one!!
Hey, thanks a ton! Stay tuned :)

Hey John, thanks for watching! All is well here. Hope the same for you!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Thanks for sharing your expertise and problem solving skills in this video case study.
"Common Denominator Problem!"
Found that many times, saved a bunch of time and work.
I was told at the Ford Training Center years ago......If you get multiple codes on your scan tool, look to see where their powers and grounds are located and if they are commonly powered and/or grounded.
It worked many times for electrical problems.
Hope your family and you are doing well.
Hey Mike, thanks for watching! We are doing well, thanks. Hope the same for you! Finding the commonality saves such an incredible amount of time.

Good whodunit, Mike :) Great demo - Bringing up circuit diags on screen & tracking down common factors.
Hey Leslie, thanks for watching! Gotta always find the common factor!

Great video thanks! Not a mechanic but enjoy working on my own stuff and learning new things. Your videos have grown my knowledge tremendously!
Hey Norbert, thanks for watching! Glad to hear the vids are helping :)
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
This is helpful for repairing or troubleshooring an automobile.
junk solder. this is where a 2 channel scope is priceless. monitor the power going in and the power going out. see which one drops out. the old days are gone when a voltmeter was king. great explanation on looking for the common denominator. its easy to get confused doing this the whiteboard idea was a good one.
Hey Richard, it is super nice to keep it all organized on there. Thanks for watching!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Your system of diagnosing the similarity of all the affected circuits is very important...looking forward to future classes
Hey Del, thanks for watching!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
I really appreciate you showing some physical work as well as the theoretical. When your learning diagrams its difficult to transfer that knowledge over to a vehicle as everything looks so different. Thanks for the video series and I have subbed.
Hey Will, thanks for watching!

Actually very very simplicity to comprehend big information and ideas..
Thanks

Good job Mike. Good step by step logic. I see you let your inner Ivan come out on this one. LOL. My experience on fixing the broken component is about 50% success. So it's good to see I am not the only one.
Hey Traveler X, thanks for watching! Hahah yeh I guess I did. I'm not a fan of attempting to fix them, but this one seemed simple. Oh well!

GM cars are also known for cluster problems. Great lecture.
Hey, thanks for watching! I remember all the GM's with the dash lighting out on them, haha!

I have an Electrical Engineering job interview in 2 days as a Wiring Harness Engineer but have no experience as I just graduated. I'm studying these videos in hopes it prepares me for potential interview questions 🤞🏼 I hopeI get it but anyways thanks a bunch! I subbed 🙌🏼
Thank you, Mike. You're a great teacher! I owned a 2006 F250 and I bought the truck with the same exact issue due to that connector. There is so much strain on that connector because the harness seems to have zero slack, so the typical 'truck ride' and strain on the board connection leads to failure.
Hey Dave, thanks for watching! I guess it's a somewhat common issue on them? Good ol' "truck ride", haha!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Wow man. You're like an Evil Genius that just happens to be a nice guy. Excellent work and lesson!
"Insert evil laugh" haha thanks man! :)

Thanks you very much great information I can use to determine if the ECU is bad.
Hi Mike. Great video thanks for using your time to make them. I had a gmc (imagine that) that the dash would just go out randomly. Gauges lights everything. I finally caught it when I could verify power and ground when it was out. Had to be in the dash. I sent it off to circuit board medics. They fixed it and got it right back. I think it was 3 days turnaround. Great people to deal with and fast service. They did have a issue with it. They called and said it had some pulled pads on the board and it was going to cost a added $50 to fix. Was that ok with me. I said yes and they said they would get it fixed and shipped out the same day. And they did. Good place to get a dash repaired. Thanks again for the videos.
Hey Don, thanks for watching! That's great to hear about Circuit Board Medics. I have year to hear anything bad about them.

Mike excellent video with lots of schematic reading info. Heat and vibration I have found out to being main causes for circuit board failures. I know a gentleman his name and company is Maic Salazar automotive diagnostics. Great individual and he personally does the repairs. He is located in northern Virginia close to where my daughter lives and I told him I would highly recommend his business. Anyway I have to look at my windows 365 package and see if I have that whiteboard option. If not I will get it. Great way to trace out circuits without using reams of paper and ink which is not cheap. Thanks again Mike for sharing your knowledge. Artie 😊 we all need a smily face nowadays especially today being Election Day. Stay well and safe 👍 just for info sake their are boards between boards like a sandwich that can go bad and can’t be fixed that the wiggle test will not confirm. Sometimes tapping and flexing the board can help locate the problem. Just some insight.
Hey Artie, thanks for watching! Yeh, Maic is a great guy! I've met him at a few of the training events. You stay safe as well!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Great video. Best out there
Thanks Mike! :)
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Nice Mike.
Great instruction as always, Mike, thanks! Would you mind suggesting a video to study how to do the physical part of the diagnosis? i.e. the wire and pin probing, using the voltmeter and test light? Cheers. Cam
Great video Mike ... I was thinking powers and grounds right away, but probably would have chased my tail for a good bit to hit on the IC .... United Radio is another company that will repair IC's ... they have always done a good job for me and they also give a 1 year guarantee. In talking to the techs there, it seems there has been a change in the solder formulation that allows the joints to crack requiring them to be re-flowed...
Hey Randy, you're the second person to comment on United Radio. I'll keep them in mind, thanks! Thanks for watching!
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Sorry I'm late! Got WAY behind on my videos. Great procedure you outlined here. I'd probably be alot more successful if I started writing things down like this, lol - can't remember crap these days! I try to find commonalities, then I forget where I started halfway through my diag ... 😂
Was worth a shot reflowing the solder. I've repaired 2 separate issues on my '93 Volvo 940 doing that in the cluster, and HVAC unit. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but worth a shot nonetheless. Great stuff as usual, Mike!
Good job thank you.
There is a repair facility in Syracuse NY that is called United Radio that repairs instrument clusters along with other electrical items. I've never used them but I hear of other people that have had them do repairs and they do a good job with pretty quick turn around time after repair.
Great to know Jdtractor man. Thanks for watching!

شكرا لك والى الامام يا استاذ
Awesome instruction. I have a question maybe you can help me with. I'm trying to troubleshoot a parasitic draw. When I pull the fuse that the IPM lid identifies as "HZRD LP" most of the draw goes away. When I pull the fuse identified as "IOD" the rest of it goes away. How do I use the words "HZRD LP" and "IOD" to relate to the schematic, which uses numbers, as in "Fuse 2" and "Fuse 26" etc? Thanks.
I still don’t get why this channel isn’t 1 million plus subscribers. Real accurate information and tips not BS from others so called techs not to name any sco~|¥
How do you flow that solder onto those tiny spots without connecting to the one next to it? Awesome video
Hi this is a great course thank you , I have a fault at work on a dumper hazard indicator circuit with ign off indicators work but not Hazards ,
ign on both work , I’m looking at a wiring diagram but can’t see how this is happening fuse is ok flasher unit is new . Any idea’s .
1:22 Preliminary diagnosis: broken connection to ignition cylinder Acc position.
2:01 Carbon on the contacts.
Is the instrument cluster a gateway module or on a lin bus?
which program do you use for your wiring diagram? thanks for the informative video
Hey Sefo, I use both Alldata and Identifix and sometimes the OEM.

Great video. We have a 1990 ford f250.ford says we need the f150 computer 8900 to 10,000 lb. vehicle and i say the wireing cluster colors are the same on this 1990 as the 1991,so this makes it more confuseing.what computer do we get.
Hello,
Good question, most of the time if the dealer uses the vin to look up the parts they are correct. The other option would be to pull out the cluster and look for a part number to cross reference.
Hope this helps!
~Ryan
Can you put the diagram in the discription below to be able to download it and see it clearly
Hey Omar, thanks for watching. I plan to add that function it at some point. We have some new stuff in the works :)

All wiring diagrams bmw from 1998 to 2022 are in this application android (Bimma EWD)
24:40 From this angle, pins 5 and 18 counting 1 at top left look like they might have fused.
24:42, once it cools, if it's not joined, it's a tiny gap - maybe one that could build capacitance, spark over causing a brief glitch?
Microsoft Whiteboard is free and included with Win10.
Hey Ed, good to know!

An easy mistake to make is to assume that because you find an active fault that this is the only problem. It probably is the instrument cluster but did you check the fuses and power/grounds as well as relays etc?
Hey Jonka1, yes, I checked all powers and grounds at the time of failure. I talked about doing it, just never showed it in this video.
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
My 03 F-350 6.0 Diesel Voltage regulator failed, overcharged the batteries blowing the secondary up. After replacing the generator and batteries and all the fuses it is a no crank no start. The accessories all come on when the key is in the on position but when you turn it to start it all cuts out until you release the key back to run. I read a short coming from f2-22 it doesn't seem to be getting power at the PCM but I can't seem to locate the issue . If anyone has a suggestion I'm all ears
Pls give demonstration of all kind of test like open short to voltage, short to ground with multi metre wiring diagram
Is there a reason you did not suspect a faulty ground connection?
Hey Alex, great question. All of the failure did not share the same ground. Had they shared a ground I would have been more likely to check that.

Wiring diagrams is like a map you have to follow to figure out a problem
How can I get schematic for 2006 Ford Freestar Van on air conditioner
Are you on any social media ?
How to get schematic for 1906 Ford Free star van air conditioner
All go through the BCM and inside fuse panel.
The dash. Wow. It is a Ford.
Did it all make sense in the end Richard?
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Yep. Go find the common denominator between all the problems. First thing that should be done not chase down all the problems separately.
Exactly! Could you imagine how long it would have taken if I had to chase down each of those complaints individually!?
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Most shops charge by the hour so they want you to take your time so they make money. Can't really think about chasing down all the problems myself. Never went at mechanics that way. Hope you taught someone a good lesson doing this way for them to see without arguement. Lol.
How to get schematic on 2006 Ford Freestar Van
I had similar problems once. The root cause was that the negative pole of the battery - body connection was too rusted. Had to be cleaned, contact sprayed and reconnected.
You tried Mike...what are you going to do...sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t,don’t beat yourself over it.
Hey Nick, thanks man! Appreciate that. :)

How I wish I have access to those wiring diagrams.. 😔😔😔
Cluster fuse draw power on f250
you give me the website address to buy pico
Why are these not monetized?
I would have been all over those solder connections with a magnifying glass, and looking for the cracked or dull solder joint(s)
Yes it's time consuming, but super cheap if you find and fix the problem.
15 minutes, and 15 cents worth of solder is a lot cheaper than a several hundred dollar cluster.
Hey, I did look at all of them closely, no luck finding anything that looked bad :(
Mike Becker, Senior Instructor
Very interesting video but you should have had the car explaining step by step what you where doing
I started watching this video and had to step away for a bit. I came back to a shot of what looks like the world's most disappointing coloring book. I'm going to find you a better coloring book.
Hey Shaun, thanks for watching! Meh, coloring book wouldn't do me any good...I can't color in the lines lol

2 minutes in, I'm guessing a ground problem? I live in the FDL area and know how bad SALT ruins everything. Let's see if I'm right. 🤷♀️ Damn, I hate being wrong! I've been cluster-f*"+#@!
Hey Ed, thanks for watching! Yeh, the salt around here is horrible! That brine they are putting on the roads now is even worse. You excited to see hwy 23 getting closer to completion?

@@GoTechTraining Hi Mike. I live in Campbellsport now, so I don't use 23 much, but considering they've been screwing around with that for a looong time, it's good news.
then again it's a ford ! 😆

Bad ground
4:00 Poor cow. Why are you so sad?
more diagrams please the logic is illogical
Can't even understand what you're trying to explain with these diagrams what happened to all your repair videos business was that slow you had one car in the shop the whole day to make a video
This is really bad! The diagrams are impossible to read! No good! Should have been good! Failed miserably
