Wonderful to drive, but hideously expensive to maintain! Service costs are ridiculous, and that’s before the silly little issues they seem to suffer with - especially electrical gremlins. Still, amazing fun to drive.

If you live in Swindon then there is only Sytner and they are a bunch or cowboys. I recorded them racing around the carpark in mine when taken in for checkups so a mistrust thing maybe in Swindon anyway.
You can't decide why people get rid of them when doing a test drive in one day you need to live with the car for a bit to understand what's wrong with it.

Been to view both the golf R and A45 within the last 2 months. 15 plate golf R 20k miles vs 14 plate a45 44k Miles. Pretty much the same price. Golf R didn’t feel all that, felt numb as you’d say. A45 won it for me, everything about it felt/looked better

Get the gearbox update done. Facelift 2015 onwards had so many changes done to the gear ratios etc. Gets rid of the clunkyness and jerky/delay on pull off/ throttle respone
Owned Golf 7R and A45. Sold both now and still miss the A45. Don't give the Golf R a second thought.

Literally just bought an a45 stage 2 running 430bhp , 26k miles 7k optional extras for £28 so a lot of money , I just can’t believe how much fuel I’m using 😂, had a golf r standard before an this is much more thirsty and more tax an insurance so I’m assuming people don’t realize the cost of running these an if something goes wrong even more expensive than a golf I imagine, loving the car though I hope to keep it for a few years , great video though 👍

They get stolen for fun. Thieves can programme a brand new key within 30 seconds or burn your front door lock to steal the keys.
Az Tech-Toys-Gaming these aren’t so easy to steal like most other German cars they the keys for these are a dealer main part only I no as I’m waiting for new keys to come and I’ve rang just about every key maker withing a 150 mile radius and not a single one can programme a key for my car had to go main dealer
FastFord RS No mate, from what I’ve gathered is that the thieves are using some form of relay switch. One guy scans the house whilst the other stands at the car door. Once the signal from the original key is picked up (without breaking into your house) it unlocks the car door.
Once the fuckers are in, they connect a device to the OBD port and flash a brand new key. Then happily drive the car off.
The alternative way is, these cunts burn the handle and snap your lock off the front door. Then raid your house for the keys.
I live in Bradford and every other day a car is being stolen..its a fuckin joke. They know it takes the police ages to come so they try their luck..can’t have anything nice these days.
not if you double lock the car, this removes the keyless entry function instantly. Keys then can't be cloned.
Az Tech-Toys-Gaming I’m not sure maybe on 13/ 14 plate cars but 2015 onwards the keys are dealer only I lost my key for my car and smashed my driver side window so I could gain access to the obd port I no key makers who are friends I also rang just about every company I could find on google for miles and miles and none could re programme a blank key for me for my car because it was the newer 2015 model they said if it was 2013/14 then I could have but not 15 onwards as the software didn’t exist only dealer had it
Russell Davies no this is not correct what so ever. My mates S3 was deadlocked, pressed lock button twice and yet they still managed to clone the key and drive away. Disabled gps in the car within 3mins of driving

I had it 3 months but had an electrical fault which took Mercedes 6 months to fix by which time I rejected it & it went back to the garage. Lost trust in the car.
Maybe that’s why owners are selling them 🤣

Inheritance drops in a few months.. Currently I drive a Mk7 Golf. Looking at whether to get a Mk7.5 Golf R or the AMG A45 around the same price here in Australia. So this kind of video is good to see.. Will look into it more, and test drive many. The internals are a big deal to me too, love the Mk7's setup and ACC. Plus I drive long distances so comfort is a factor for me, and the Pup. lol
A45s are quite expensive in south africa. Big respect for A45s

I'd get the R. Heard the A45 is good however it does have a bit of lag. Check officially gassed videos of him when he had the A45. He had a golf R and tuned it and it was really quick I believe 3 secs to 60

I've been dailying the facelift A45 for 3 years now, why you would not want to keep this car? Fuel and maintenance cost. This is a propper race car to maintain.
Your its a 100 times better than the piece of shit golf r. Amg 2.0l is way more reliable than VW

Mercedes have insane maintenance and running costs. That's why you see way more Golf R's and M140i's.
Also the 4Matic system tends to get boring especially compared to the 5-10 year old C63's with rear wheel drive.

Golf r set the bar for the hyper hatch. I drove both s3 n golf surprised at the difference.
a golf R is no hyper hatch, you need to add 100HP for it to be a HH.
mondo odnom all the 4wd hatch’s are hyper hatch’s.
I have a r 7.5 Apr stage 1 it's just as fast as any hot hatch on the market , torque is amazing. They really need a tune the results are incredible.

They sell them because after you buy/lease u have to go back to mercedes Benz to for servicing and it costs alot so bills mount up so yea all good getting one maintaining it is another story

I'm actually in the market for a new car. I had a budget in mind of £30k. I was looking for an A45 or a Golf R. Then had a long browse on the good old Auto Trader. The M2 or the early M4's with reasonable miles on it kept coming up which changed my mind completely.
Do yourself a favour and get a Cayman S.
Finance proving too much for people, many on eBay with " finance outstanding will need settling as part of sale".

Most people are selling up now cos of the new gen soon to be announced which will probably cause major depreciation. But people who sell them after 3/4 months I would definitely think it's down to the high running cost/serving cost

The gearbox is lazy in auto mode even in sport + in manual mode using the paddles it’s a lot better and I find the gearbox very clunky and jerky when cold I have the performance exhaust but it’s not loud enough only hear the exhaust when you boot it would be a perfect car louder exhaust better gearbox more power
No matter what with cars like these is they cost a fortune to run. When I bought our mk2 ST back in 2009 brand new we had it 12 months, no mileage cap etc. 20k it did in 12 months, add up monthly payments insurance, tyres servicing and the biggie fuel.

because of the "meta" , people behave in packs like sheep. some dude sets the trend , everybody buys the same. now the trend is VW, Audi, BMW. No one buys A45 AMG or Astra J OPC but you can see 4-5 GTIs parked near one another and 2-3 golf R's near them. TBH now i am looking to buy a hot hatch and i ruled out Golf R and Audi S3 . Then i stopped at Astra VXR/OPC (2015) but then i saw this one: 360cp , automatic gearbox, 4x4 drive, which none of the other cars have it all together. Of course, 2-4000E more expensive than the other options but it is a Merc end of the day.

Completely disagree with the ageing comment. This design has aged extremely well and still looks fresh. The new shape will age fast.

From a purely financial stand point, these cars are spec'd to around £50-£55k, and right now you can get a 17 plate for £26k. I have an A250 Amg and I’m pretty sure I’m going to sell mine as it just dosent have much character and the fun I get out of it is not worth £600 a month
£600 a month, you could get an A35 AMG easily for that! Depending on deposit of course 👍

Golf R's have had some amazing lease deals over the past few years, as low as £230 vat included with £2000k deposit
golf r is also significantly cheaper and IMO every bit as good. In some areas I'd argue its a better car.

I’ve owned both an the a45 absolutely melts the golf in every department, quality, speed handling etc, the only thing the golf has is it’s price point, way cheaper and more available, although a great car once you drive the 2 you’d only pick one

Give me a A45 AMG over a GOLF R anyday especially in that colour and the A45 is faster. Only thng that lets the A45 down the dash is nice but would look a 1000 times better if it had the spec my new A200 AMG Line has i bloody love the new A series dashboards and tablet style screens.

Golf R was around £200 a month on lease so they are very common. The A45 was £45k+ for one with some spec so they are less common. Such a shame about the farting automatic gearboxes, horrible.
For that money I just get myself the rs5 less common on the road and sounds way better

I am sick and tired of people trying to compare a Golf R to an A45 completely different cars. I don't know what people are going on about, in Australia it's more than $10,000 difference for a Golf R stock standard to a Mercedes A45 stock standard. I bought the merc a year ago and I've got both outright prices in front of me. Regardless if you want a faster car the A45 specs speak for themselves don't hate me hate the specs. Very expensive to run though, breaks every 20000 ks $3,000 and I've already gone through two sets of tyres in a year and a bit.
Daijahrel B Hey if you get tyres next time and need them to last longer ,ask for ones with less silica in them.
The low pro and performance tyres have high silica content for grip but it wears quick.
Less silica they will last longer at the cost of a bit of grip and feel.
I owned a GTR and was spending heaps on tyres.

Their turbos and gearboxes are really unreliable. Lots of owners have had major gearbox issues on these, I was gonna buy 1 but after looking on the a45 forums it put me off buying 1 on reliability grounds and also owners weighing bridging them and they're coming out over 1.6ton
They are not. I own 1 and most people destroy gearbox because they dont care to wait till the gearboxoil is warm enough. When you respect this, its a very good gearbox with quick shifting. I didnt regret for 1 second, i bought my a45.

For a car thats priced at over 40k and is meant to be a "premium" brand it is just unacceptable and no wonder it puts people off, like myself. Could never trust 1 out of warranty it would be a massive risk

A lot of people buy an A45, RS3 or Golf R and quickly realise it’s a straight line shooter. My advice would be to for a rear wheeled drive car unless it’s a real monster like an RS6.
Rear wheel drive will have you learning to drive for a lot longer. 4x4 gets boring very fast.
Cheapest Amg with the pricing on service and parts of a expensive Amg and not comfy had one sold purchased Rs3 best choice
