After Freedom Planet 2 is released, will we be expecting a Freedom Planet 3 & Knuckles?
Freedom Planet 3 & Carol*
Arte71 Featuring Knuckles from the Echidna May Glide series?
No, Freedom Planet Blu-Ray
Modest Heliolisk Freedom Planet 3 & General Gong
Modest Heliolisk
freedom planet 3 & Neera
3/10 not called Free-er Planet
They still have a chance to call the third game Three-dom Planet.
Should have been Freedom Planet 2 Free harder.
PKDeluxe Were really sure that they would go the Aliens route with "Freedom planets" :P

Freedom Planet: The Squeakuel
Freedom world?
Neera's a tank, man. And not gaming-MMO tank. She's a literal tank. Takes a beating, moves like one, and HITS like one. Her down smash and her up special are INCREDIBLY powerful.
Then again I've been a fanboy since her bossfight.
She was a badass.
Down Smash eh?
Neera Li for Ultimae DLC.
Oh how time changes. Neera does still rock though.
I always enjoyed Milla's murder-cubes.
Sooo....Lilac for Smash?
Fazz Satoshi I'd prefer Shantae but that would be cool
Y e s
YEESSS
I wish, but it's unlikely. Lilac is literally the only Sonic OC I find truly awesome.
@Blazing Flare it could work
Strife, the main game designer of GalaxyTrail, just posted that Version 1.0.1 of the demo will improve upon many criticisms, for example Lilac has her downward tornado again from FP1, Neera's hit detection will be improved, some collision bugfixes etc.
It's nice that the developer responds to fan feedback so quickly!
Ooooo, nice haircut, Lilac.
It's better than Shantae's, that's for sure. She still can't fully weaponize that shit (Shantae's hair whip is clunky and non-sensical, making me wonder when Mimic intends to bring out the Nitro Punks Hairspray recipe for her).
I was actually being serious. I really like the new designs.
First Sonic Mania and now this...
The HYPE is REAL!!!!!
Fun Fact, Christian Whitehead (Mania's lead programmer) is also doing programming for this game.
Well, why am I not surprised? 😏
sonic tron27 Sonic Mania vs Freedom Planet 2=rivalry of the year
This was before Sonic Mania.
Couple neat things you might not have noticed:
- As Carol, if you throw the disc while on the bike, the bike goes away. Using the guard button to jump to your disc will let you get back on your bike/keep the bike out if you want to disc jump without putting it away.
- As Lilac, pressing the special button mid boost let's you cancel it with an attack. This saves special meter, and also her double jump no longer consumes special.
- As Milla, pressing the special button with a large cube let's you shoot out a lot of small cubes like rapid fire, although the range isn't very good.
I kind of agree that Neera feels a tad unwieldy right now, and I'm not sure if maybe it's because I suck with her, or if she needs a bit more work. I feel like her special attack (not the giant vertical laser) is a tad underwhelming, and maybe it shouldn't use the entire gauge.
So this is a true sequel? I'm so used to characters never aging so this is refreshing
Yes. It takes place 2 years after the first game. Lilac went from 15 to 17, Carol 12 to 14, Milla 10 to 12... You get the point.
Torque and Brevon aren't gonna be here though.
ES21007 Thanks for the info, that is so awesome. Even if some of the characters aren't returning, I'm still looking forward to it
I'm used to minor sprite alterations being a big Sonic fan myself (like his gradual change from 1-3, Advance 1 to 2/3 having more active movement sprites) so seeing them get much bigger, more detailed and more animated is rather amazing to see.
Id say at this point its not really fair to name it Sonic related.
Lilac can stop her Dragon Boost while she is boosting, which causes an explosion. Just press the Dragon Boost button while in a boost.
Milla can do a bullet attack. Summon a cube, then keep pressing the shield button.
All characters have a block button (Y for Xbox 360). For Milla it blocks attacks and summons a cube.
It really annoys me that Johnny refused to use it.
Indie games are now the better way to play new games. Plus with Sonic Mania coming soon, old school games are now the way to have fun.
Daniel Lado there's far too many indie games with only like 5-10% of them just being ok to good. Unless it's wayforward, I personally stick to legit triple A companies after giving dozens upon dozen of indies a try
Check out Sin'en. More specifically FAST Racing Neo (or FAST RMX coming to the Switch). Really great developer. These guys and Yacht Club are great too. Azure Striker Gunvolt is good too. Of course there are bad ones, but the same could be said of AAA
also devolver digital
IntiCreates, YachtClub, WayForward, Supergiant Games, LabZero Games, and GalaxyTrail are THE companies to look to for good, quality indie titles.
IntiCreates has both Gunvolt and GalGun, YachtClub has Shovel Knight, WayForward has Shantae and Mighty Switch Force, Supergiant has Bastion & Transistor, LabZero has Skullgirls and Indivisible, and GalaxyTrail has this.
In other words: Gunvolt, Shovel Knight, Shantae, The Kid, Filia, and Lilac are the successors to heroes of old AKA Mario, Sonic, Megaman, and such.
P.S. I'm also forgetting the Drifter and Frisk from Undertale... but that might be because I don't want hater bullets fired in my general direction.
What about Nicalis? And Cave Story with Quote: the pioneer of indie game.
Also Undertale is what i call an uncontrolable popularity like how Gangnam style became N#1 in 2011-12 (Toby Fox and Psy hadn't any idea how to control that)
But i really want to try HLD soon
Fun fact: One of the Characters is voiced by Lindsay Jones of RoosterTeeth Fame. Specifically their Achievement Hunter Channel and RWBY as the voice of Ruby Rose.
Sonic Rush looks different from what I remember...
cynical perks Sonic Rush 4 is looking pretty nice.
*4. Sonic Rush 3 is Colors DS
Shaddy True.
Cynical.. I love that Picture.
It strangely fits..
dat picture
Is it wrong to say that I enjoy Freedom Planet more than any other Sonic games? Even more than Classic favourites Sonic 3 & Knuckles, modern favourites SA2, and my favorite Sonic Generations?
AbsolutePCGamer nah, I can believe that. FP has a lot more variety in character moves and levels than some of the sonic games (Though Mania might get close to mimicking that satisfaction that FP offers, from what we've seen)
ahchurro111 Not to mention that half of the bosses in the game are more intense and challenging than all of Sonic bosses.
AbsolutePCGamer true, but sometimes I feel that becomes more a detriment to the flow of the game, personally.
AbsolutePCGamer No :3. I love Freedom Planet, but the sequel seems to improve on a lot of things from the first game.
Have you heard about Spark th Electric Jester. It's much like FP, greenlit on Steam setting to launch this February and it's made by LakeFeperd aka the guy behind Sonic BTS and ATS.
Marius Urucu Oh I played that Spark demo. But honestly, it doesn't really have the same magic that Freedom Planet brought.
Freedom planet= Sonic, Ristar, and Vector man.
And Klonoa. A little bit.
And Gunstar Heroes
Sweet!
Basically stuff made by Treasure - a company that was to SEGA like how Capcom/Squaresoft were to Nintendo back in the day.
Also, Milla's basically Megaman X now, since her giant cube can be fired in bits or discharged all at once.
yeah, but i kinda miss the old treasure. Their N64 and Saturn games weren't as good (except for Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga imo)
This demo was TIGHT. I enjoyed the hell out of playing, recording and editing vids out of this myself. It was totally worth staying up till 2 am on a work night. I've gone back and replayed it several times already with some feedback on things I missed. :D That's fantastically engaging for a demo!
Who is your favorite character? :)
Carol. Always Carol. :D
I haven't even gotten to the first Freedom Planet, which I've been wanting to get to for the longest time.
Nana-Kyoto It's so good. You don't even know.
It's ten dollars, and will run on a potato. Forget about the Switch, grab your mom's ten year old Windows XP laptop, and BUY IT NOW!
Nana-Kyoto we are two
Nana-Kyoto I thought about getting it for a little while there and then I just never went about doing it for some reason either. Maybe.
Lilac's design is so much better in this game.
The art style in general looks a lot more unique.
Brandonious15987 it looks like Lilac is more serious, more mature..
Man, just waiting for the story.. +☆+
But can compete with cough bounce pad cough
Two reasons
1. In this game she's 19
2. The devs changed her design to not look like a sonic Oc
Fun Fact: Lilac before freedom planet existed she was a hedgehog also the OC to the sonic series
@@Neonx13 correction: she is 17
Carol was actually my least favorite from the previous game. No bike? Half the fun is gone. I think if she started each stage on her bike (like jade creek), I would've like that more. I didn't like that pounce of hers either. I counted many times I landed in an area I didn't want to go because I forgot that it wasn't a double jump. Glad she at least has a double jump/chain hook move now.
Loved Milla in FP1. Can't wait to break crap with her again. :3
I actually like the redesigns. Looks pretty good in game.
Gale Storm She does still have the bike, but there's only one gas can in the sample level. Once you get it, you can store it and pull it out at will. I do think the Jump Disc makes Carol a more well rounded character to play without the bike, though.
Actually I discovered that there are apparently two gas cans right near each other in the sample level.
Also the Pounce is the best thing in FP1. It's basically an instant "go fast" button, which makes Carol function quite nicely in close quarters.
3 years? Aw man, I hope this does not turn into an "What happuned" episode...
yeah I was thinking that too. But they've been showing gameplay progress and cutscenes so it still being worked on
1:53 How can you say it makes them look more mature? Making characters look more mature requires bandages and a scarf! I don't see any of that on anyone here. Sad!
UncleSilver Gaming Lol
You can never grab too many... CYCLONE
More 2D Sonic games need to pan out the camera when he goes fast.
Caleb Jaaniste Thank god the Playing Window of the IOS remasters of Sonic 1, 2 & CD have been extended.
Kamehameha?? Johnny...that was clearly Heat Dome Attack...
Well, considering that any kind of fireball coming out of one's palms is clearly ripping off Ryu's Hadouken in these people's minds (or as the ignoramuses back in the day called it, the "Eldookin"), he's clearly going with the common denominator here.
I'd wonder about his gaming intelligence, but that'd be an unwarranted insult with little oomph behind it, so I won't.
But don't you know, Heat Dome Attack is orange....That, IS BLUUUUUUUUE *Don Don dooooon*
Princess Luna the kamehameha is the most recognizable move, that's why people say that rather than final flash or masenko
So... We've moved into giant enemy crab territory now?
"Why are there ying-yang symbols falling out of my ass?"
Such are the deep existential questions from the mouth of Johnny, my dear internet.
Longer limps, more spikey hair, and older appearance. This game is pulling a Sonic the Hedgehog.
Huy Bii Can't wait till we have the Weredragon and Werelynx
They aged two years. Some of them have reached that teenage gangly stage.
Looking at this sample I am now even more hyped for Freedom planet 2. Also I did not know you can play as Neera. I found her annoying in the first game.
I freakin' love this channel. Johnny is like the big brother I never had. If I did have one, I'd want him to be just like Johnny tho.
9:18 Lilac was able to roll into a ball in the Freedom Planet 1 demo, but that got removed in the release.
This game has inspired me to create my own games
I just played through the demo myself as all four characters and hot damn did I enjoy it!
Did you use windows or mac? I have windows, but I need help!
I'm still using Windows 7. I just downloaded it, extracted it, then double-clicked the executable.
I have windows 8, and the demo is a zip file. I can't open the demo file due to my expired Winzip trial. I never even heard of Winzip.
I used WinRAR to extract the file.
Sounds unfamiliar for me... ^_^;
Just finished playing the sample version myself and there's a few things I want to point out a few things I found out.
1. Carol can roll into a ball and it will do damage.
2. you can dismount of Carol's bike with the jump disc ability.
3. You can get back on the bike by using jump disc and then pressing the guard button.
4. After you summon the cube while playing as Milla if you tap the barrier action you will shoot out small cubes instead of the small laser.
5. Milla can sniff the ground while your crouching and by repeatedly pressing the crane combo button she will dig.
6. with Neera if you hold down the Ice staff button and start firing you can still jump left and right and stay facing the direction you started shooting in.
>made with Unity
"Hello, you rainbow-colored Sonic fan characters, I'm Jim Sterling and this is a demo for Freedom Planet 2"
?
Never thought I would see a Jimpressions reference in this comment section. +1
Fun fact, Jim Sterling likes the unity engine and thinks it's a powerful free engine. It's just that cheapo devs reuse free stock assets and throw them on steam.
"Hal-LO you tunnel-excavating rainbow donut steels, I'm Jim Stanto-- Sorry, I mixed my names up with me real one, we, are! Having a *gander* at Frrrrrrreedom Planet... Deux!"
SJ.Fox yeah I don't know why ONLY the free version of unity shows the logo that's gonna give you a bad image (even though unity is a good engine)
I have to say, I haven't watched any of your non Johnny Vs. videos before, and I find you just as entertaining playing something like this blind. Great video!
Ah yes, Neera, my least favorite boss becomes playable. Time to make my enemies as mad at me as I was at Neera in the OG Freedom Planet
Prepare yourself then for the 13th September 2022. On that day the game wil finally be released on Steam and other platforms (like Nintendo Switch).
I really like the way this sequel looks. The sprites and animation remind me a lot of Megaman Zero, which I love. Maybe I'll pick up the full version when it comes out.
YES! it looks like you can go faster than you do in the last game. I'm getting really excited just from just watching this alone. Also, I am loving the new designs from Tyson Tan. His predilection towards Chinese fashion really really fits these characters like a gloves.
I've been waiting for this game for what feels like forever
Thanks a lot. I was contemplating replaying the original before this one comes out.
No, you know what? I think Carol's "Navi" is more like Sparx from Spyro, as in it takes hits for you. At least, that's what it looked like.
It does. In fact, if you look at the health bar, some of the flowers look different to tell you how much health your "shield spirit" has left.
It does. In fact, if you look at the health bar, some of the flowers look different to tell you how much health your "shield spirit" has left.
Now I can't miss new videos. Thanks little mobile bell. 🙏🙏
Game’s finally out Johnny! Hallelujah!
You probably already know, I just have a need tell everyone.
This looks fantastic. Thanks for putting this on my radar.
Just as I finished trying the Dreamcast Lightning and Conversion mods for SADX you upload this. It looks really solid and dig the new designs on the characters.
Oh, it looks so good! All those Treasure memories are flowing into my mind.
Can't wait to play it!
seriously I love your content.
Holy shit, this is the earliest I've ever been to a video.
Man
You're lucky I'm always up late
I just tried out Neera. Tip, holding down attack and jumping to move around makes the boss way easier as you can keep some distance.
I'm not sure if you found this out after recording this, but there actually is a new projectile move for Milla. When a cube is in play, the tiny shield shoots a projectile after you let go of the button, and the move lasts until you drain the larger cube of its power. It doesn't do a whole lot of damage, but it does make up for her more risky close range attacks.
Holy cow, Johnny, you didn't even try Milla's new DBZ-cube blast skill (which basically turns her giant cube into an ammo crate of 10 mini-cubes which fire like ki blasts in DBZ).
If you're curious on how to do it, press the Shield button while the cube is up. You get ten shots, and pressing the Guard button reloads the cube at any point in time. Also, you can do it mid-air if you want.
Basically, Milla effectively becomes Megaman X with a side of railgun shooter (you get the default short-range shield if you don't have the cube up). You can choose to fire the whole cube at once (like you were doing) or fire it off in small intervals (which you can reload at any time).
Why does Lilac have a face of a cat instead of having a dragon's muzzle/snout? Why doesn't she have a tail, like dragons all have? Lilac looks nothing like a dragon at all.
Aneita Torres she's a different kind of dragon. if I remember right, her ancestors breed with the planet ppl, so it makes sense later generation s dragons will look different
***** Okay. I get it, thanks.
Though, there are very few video games where you play as a dragon, so I'm a bit bummed that one of those few doesn't share a lot of physical dragon aspects.
She's not a full-blood dragon. Merga, on the other hand, is a full-blooded dragon.
***** Yeah, but what is she a mix of? All I see is mostly "cat without the tail".
Aneita Torres
Maybe finding out exactly what she's mixed with is a future plot point.
All the characters in the game are SO adorable!!
I just finished trying out the demo this morning and, I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all. I was a bit skeptical about the new character sprites at first (the official character arts, however, are amazing) but, after playing the demo, they grew on me tremendously
Lilac and Carol are pretty much unchanged except Lilac can now cancel her Dragon Boost in mid-air and Carol's new special attack, the Jump Disc, is much better than what she had in FP1.
Milla has been improved in some way. She now has melee attacks like everyone else and making her Murder Cubes something more like a power-up is a nice idea IMO.
Neera isn't bad...but I don't like her as much as I like the the other characters. Though I will admit finishing a Boss Fight with her downward stab is very satisfying.
I also like that there's a block/dodge button now even though I sometime tend to forget it exists. Then again, to be fair, it's something that is my fault because I have the exact same issue with the 3DS Kirby games
Wow, the first game was already impressive and really fun to play, and it definitely seems like they improved it even more!
15:00 Huh? Looks like Milla's learned some Tae kwon do.
SWEET! Just cute and badass.
It's nice to see this looks like it plays great and looks as gorgeous as the first game.
I also got the demo for Freedom Planet 2 and I can't stop playing it! I absolutely love it. =)
Wow, this popped up in my notifications box right after I re-watched Johnny's review on the first Freedom Planet. Ain't that something.
Im so exited about this game! Just started my second playthrough of the first one while waiting for this
I'm pissed Johnny didn't realize Milla had rapid fire projectiles while she had the cube out! they showed it off in the trailer! and even how the beam Milla shoots DOES give her a massive speed boost
4 years and we got an indie in Duke Nukem Forever development
That zooming thing is beautiful
Ice to see you again, Neera. Cool to witness she's a playable character now!
A few things you missed:
Lilac is now able to cancel out of her dragon boost into a sort of burst attack by hitting Special again.
When Milla has her cube deployed, her shield burst will fire bits of it as projectiles. You did this briefly in the video, but didn't seem to notice it.
When Carol is on her bike, her Special will throw it instead of one of her jump discs. In doing so, she "puts away" her bike to re-summon at her leisure (you will see a wheel icon next to the health bar if the bike is available). To re-mount the bike, jump to one of her discs using Guard instead of Special.
So this is what the Dreamcast to FP's Saturn is shaping up to be! And just long enough later for me to forget about it, this was a great thing to see!
the new boss theme as the giant crab dance movements got me beat😂😂😂💀
I've missed Spotlights..always good for chilling with a cup of coffee..
I like how the menu music is channeling the spirit of Gunstar Heroes as hard as it can.
i'm truly sad i haven't watched this until i remembered it's releasing in 3 days
Ey, game's out now. Talk about it.
Great Video Johnny
I really like this updated art style. The finer detail, greater emphasis on far eastern influences here and there, and adjusted proportions give this game a much more distinct visual identity. The sample version is great and all the characters feel distinct and fun. Really looking forward to this! Also, since this is coming to Switch iirc...physical release? Maybe Freedom Planet 1 and 2, like what happened with Azure Striker Gunvolt? Please?
You know how with Milla, when you mash her green shield button, she does a close-ranged blast? Apparently, when you have the block out, that instead fires _projectiles_ which is pretty neat.
Game looking even better than the first, finally I can play as the ice cop too! Hope this game comes out this year
This game is doing great so far (as in updates)
The team is very talented, mad props.
The change in Milla's playstyle makes sense. Going bu=y the why the characters look now, it's probably been a few years since the last game, and either Lilac or Carol has most likely spent that time training Milla to defend herself.
Last time i was this early on a Johnny video...
Huh, this is actually my first time being early on a Johnny video.
It's cool because you already did a review on the first one.
I think it's worth mentioning they added another option to Milla's cube if you rapid press her shield she will rapid fire smaller cubes with less damage but more range
Just a few things you missed:
1. Carol can throw her motorcycle like the Jump Disc. Holding Shield+Special lets you get it back.
2. When Milla has a Phantom Block, the barrier will also fire smaller blocks.
3. Neera has directional special attacks with her Frost Arts. I did massive damage to the boss with her upwards Frost Arts.
4. Apparently there's a way to revive immediately after dying, while staying in the same spot you were before. Still uses one life, though.
@ 11:25 I noticed some graphical errors when Carol is on a shimmy bar with the bike, her hands are above the bar
That's actually not just a graphical error. For whatever reason, Carol has a glitch that makes her entire hurtbox shorter. I have no idea what causes it.
What the fuck are you talking about
The visual error there is caused by Carol's hit detection becoming screwed up.
For example, when that glitch occurs, the petals right before the boss are also too high in the air for Carol to collect, even though she clearly touches them as you walk past. When the glitch doesn't occur, Carol is able to collect them just by walking past without having to jump for them.
19:47
The guard button (Which summons the cube) can block any attack, but you gotta time it right.
Mila's sheild can only block projectiles, but she can also reflect them back and do so pretty much as much as she likes.
Fun fact: Using the shiled button with a cube makes her shot mini cubes in rapid fire.
Also: Some characters do additonal actions when using the guard button (For example Carol can use it to toggle to have a bike or not when either throwing the bike or her disk)
The way the boss explodes is just like how mini-bosses explode in Mischief Makers on N64.
I LOVE THE FP2 DEMO. I played it for myself, and I absolutely love everything about it.
I know it's almost been a year since the FP2 demo came out, but I just noticed something:
One of Lilac's attacks is a rising punch, most commonly called a "Shoryuken". And what does that translate to?
*_Rising Dragon Fist._*
If nobody's already told you and you haven't noticed yet, if you have your cube out with Milla and use your normal shield, it allows her to drain the cube's energy and fire little cube bullets out of her shield which she can aim. Gives her some ranged potential.
they look so adorable!
Man, so much negativity in the comments, makes me a sad boy.
*Sees Milla*
MOE PUPPY!!!!! AWWWW!!!
owo
Milla's block is mainly used for ranged enemies, as it reflects their projectiles back.
Tbh I STILL haven't played the 1st game yet......I should....though I'm super hyped for this game! >_
With Milla's Cube out Johnny when you use the Shield you can shoot mini cubes
Just got done playing the demo it was amazing
Would love to see you cover the game now that it's out!
I love the jazzy stage music.
The addition of the Insta-Shield (the guard button) is so amazing to me. The only thing about Sonic Mania I don't like is the replacement of the Insta-Shield for the...Drop Dash. I would be fine with the Drop Dash it hadn't replaced one of the most versatile and satisfying abilities of any Sonic game.
Would you perhaps consider reviewing the Spark the Electric Jester 3 demo that just released? You did a Spotlight of the first game and never got around to making a full review of it. Now it has two 3D sequels, and the most recent one appears to be *extremely* polished.
Finnaly we get to see some footage from freedom planet 2!!!
Nathaniel Foga I want this and the first on the Nintendo switch
Uh, they have had gameplay trailers for a month.
Cubester64 Never saw them.
Just got done playing this a few minutes ago. I LOVE IT and I can't wait to play the full game. ^_^
