This recipe calls for a 60/40 mix of KNO3 and white table sugar by weight, and I'm going to make a 100 gram batch, so I'm adding 60 grams of stump remover first, followed by 40 grams of granulated white sugar.
I'll need some sort of container to hold this in, and I'm thinking these Mega Block Legos might work. At this point, the mixture is just runny enough that it can be coaxed into the container. It takes about 60 grams to fill this red block, and when I've cooked up a little more, I'll add that to the blue one. It's darker in color because it cooked longer, and generally speaking, I think the less it is cooked, the better.
Another batch was made using a mix of 58% Stump Remover, 29% Sugar, and this time I used 13% Corn syrup, and 30mL water. The water was cooked out the same way as the last, and then about 1 gram of homemade rust powder was added, and stirred in throughly. When it was ready, it looked like a creamy chocolate frosting, and I packed that into the green LEGO. I may have accidentally trapped an air bubble inside.
Overall I think I'm happiest with these mixtures using the rust. With a different homemade casing that actually has a nozzle, I was able to get a successful rocket launch that I think went a couple thousand feet high.

@@madhavmalik5458 Ehh, not really. The fuel burned great but I used the wrong material for the rocket body which caused it to not fly straight.

I'm late to the game, so to speak, but having just watched only two videos, I can see why so many of you loved them, and the man who made them for us. I'm so sorry for everyone's loss: his friends, his family, and his followers. I can tell already that the King of Random was a great guy, and a terrific CZcams instructor.
I guess I'm actually luckier than most of you as his whole library of videos is new to me, so I can enjoy them for the first time. I just hope that CZcams keeps memorial accounts like this open forever so that we may never forget his name or his legacy that he left behind.
I'm sorry I never got the chance to know you, King of Random, but thank you all the same for your wonderful and entertaining videos that you made. Be proud of the fact that your knowledge that you shared on the internet lives on in perpetuity.

I watched this video in 4th grade and immediately was fascinated by space, which in turn made me love engineering. I wanted to be a NASA Aerospace Engineer for the next few years and loved to make things. I was then in a car accident and knew I wouldn't be able to become an aerospace engineer like I wanted to, but I still wanted to make things I thought were cool. I picked up programming and animation as a hobby and now program different robots and other contraptions. Everything I've made for the last nearly 8 years since October 2012 is because of this one video. Grant Thompson made me who I am. He's probably the most influential person in my life despite the fact that I never even met him. Rest in peace, Grant. You are and always will be the best

If you want to make a homemade missile. Reduce the sugar by 6%. Replace it with magnesium dust, reduce the temp but cook for 1 hour till its black. This will burn much hotter & faster which propels heavier loads. Then stuff the nose of the missile with acetone peroxide (it should be short as possible with no air between the nose and the base). At the inside tip put a very small amount of damp nitrogen triiodide crystals. We once aimed one of these homemade missiles at a porta-john from 100 feet away. It completely missed the john, flew behind it into the forest... then a few seconds later we heard the loudest blast of our lives. Like a stick of dynamite going off. As we were running we could hear branches crackling then the subtle thump of a tree. We went back the next day and found a tall, but thin, 4" tree with the middle of it completely gone.

If you are going to try this, PLEASE do not melt the mixture in the microwave. I tried it and it got to hot and ignited the mixture. The microwave is broken and I have burns on my shoulder and legs + my hair is burnt.

It didn't get too hot. A localized hot spot probably ignited it, which is especially likely since it's a microwave. It doesn't cook evenly, so you'll need something like a burner.

No one should have considered a microwave as an option. He tells you step by step what to do. Doing anything wrong can result in problems.
He specifically stated to move the burner someplace where it won't catch anything on fire for the reasons that it isn't safe.
