What a whirlwind first day! So much seen and done...come with me and see what the tourist experience is like in Algeria...still doesn't feel like Africa!
Hi I’m Algerian and live in Algiers I’ll give you some infos 😊: Algiers oldest name is Icosium , a the city was ruled first by the great kingdom of Algeria , the Berber kingdom which was “ Numidia “ and who became Roman and Byzantine and vandals later in history The city of Algiers than was established by “ buluggin ibn ziri “ who gave it the name “ jazair banu mazghanna “ in Arabic , and banu mazghanna are a Berber tribe who lived in Algiers , than the name was shortened to “ el jazair “ till today and the whole county took the same name of the capital . You need to know that Algerians in their native language they are called Dziri = Algerians and the name in Arabic goes back to the zirid dynasty , they just added a “D”😂 , the zirides are the ones who created “ the casbah” that you’ve seen ( the old city ) than came the ottomans and built some mosques and castles taking inspiration from what was there before ( the ziride architecture , they also were the first to rule Grenada and built the albaicin another version of the Algerian casbah = Alcazaba after the ommeyade dynasty and it’s Algerian Berber origin tarik ibn ziyad who conquered Spain with the army of Muslims ) Algiers has many nicknames : the white because the “ old casbah “ people used to paint their houses in white , and it’s also called : the guarded one or the guarded by god because at one point in history all European kings guided by the Spanish king attacked Algiers (because at the time we were the strongest kingdom in the Mediterranean Sea nobody could pass without paying taxes )but suddenly a storm started and all their boats were destroyed 😂 people took it as a sign of god and apparently the king of Spain today never wears a crown because of this one ancestor who was shamed by his people for the defeat , and Algiers is also called “ Al bahja “ = the dazzling one Kingdom of Algeria or Al jazair was part of the ottomans but at some point they split and only remained militarily and economically related ❤ The European buildings were built by Algerians who were forced to work just like slaves and with Algerian resources , there was 700 castles Andalusian style and beautiful houses that were destroyed and replaced by these European buildings that were created for the European settlers The mosque you’ve seen far away is not in construction it’s finished months ago it’s called “ the great mosque “ it was built in a place called “ muhamadia “ comes from Muhammad, it replaced a church that was created by the French colonizers to forcefully convert Muslims to Christianity and start christianizing all Africa from that point and there was a whole tribe that was killed in there And the pope’s name was Charles lavigerie and it is said that he went up through that hill and said “ where are you now Muhammad? “ proudly insulting the dead ones and Islam So the mosque was created in honor of those who died and to give him an answer 😊 that we are here and we won’t be silenced
Also Algeria doesn’t recognize Israel and Algerians don’t recognize Israelis and really hate them they see them as terrorists who took a the land of Palestine by force just like France did to Algeria , so it’s not disrespectful in their view because they feel like Palestinians are close to them in terms of history and struggle against apartheid ( also there are some Algerians who hate Jews in general but there’s only a few of them because at some point in history French colonialists created something called decret crémeux which gives indigenous Algerian Jews same rights as the French settlers (majority of them accepted ) and Muslims were considered second class citizens they were oppressed so Muslims had a gruge on Jews who betrayed their country Algeria , when we liberated ourselves, French settlers and Algerian Jews fled to France than went to the newly created Israel , and started killing Palestinians, this is why Algerian Muslims hated the even more for not only betraying them but also their brothers in religion, of course there’s still Jews and Christians (especially Catholics ) living in Algeria , they are the ones who didn’t betray their Muslim fellow citizens
I believe the newly discovered ruins are Roman ruins. After Italy, Algeria is the second country with the most important Roman ruins. It is surely that in Algeria there is the Pompeii of Africa.
@@Ramytoufik yeah it’s it’s true it’s well known that we are the second country in the world to have a lot of Roman Empire ruins and some of them more preserved than the ones Italy
nice video, but this information 2:40 is totally incorrect, the building was originally a mosque built in the 17th century, but was converted under French colonization to the Cathedral of St Philippe in 1845, then converted back to a mosque after the liberation in 1962
Kachava Mosque, or Goat Square, as it is called in Turkish, was a mosque since it was built by the Ottomans, then French colonialism turned it into a church for 132 years, then it was restored to become a mosque again after independence.
It's wrong ! The mosque has never been a synagogue. It was built by the Ottomans and its name is Ketchawa. During French colonization it was transformed into a church. In 1962 after independence it regained its original function as a mosque.
Y'all know that we barely have any ottoman architecture in Algeria right? The ottomans were an army only and we were called the Regency of Algiers because we were celebrate from the ottoman rule we were allies. It was bulit during the Regency of Algiers, and france turned it to a church after independence it was back to being a mosque

You should know that you are in a country It does not recognize a state called Israel, and we as a people do not recognize a state called Israel. Rather, it is just a state created by the West that occupies the land of Palestine. This is why it is necessary to respect the decision of the state and the people. the police escort is mostly due to the mentality of people in charge... some 11 years ago a terrorist attack took place in a remote oil and gas facility hundereds of miles away from any city or tourist site. sadly some people died. even though the terrorist threat is neutrolized and it's safe.. but many people get lost in the vast desert... it's the biggest deseart in the world and sand storms are not fun.... so the government decided that every tourist visiting the southern parts of the country will have either a traveling agency guide or they'll provide police escort. it's not needed but our government officials are a bit old school and they don't like to take chances when it comes to security and the well being of people especially tourists... so come visit and if you don't have a guide and the police approached you just try to talk to them and show them your traveling plans if they see that you're not going to do something crazy like going to the remote parts of the desert alone the'll put your name in the system ''in case you get lost'' and they'll wish you good luck.

Hi I’m Algerian and live in Algiers I’ll give you some infos 😊:
Algiers oldest name is Icosium , a the city was ruled first by the great kingdom of Algeria , the Berber kingdom which was “ Numidia “ and who became Roman and Byzantine and vandals later in history
The city of Algiers than was established by “ buluggin ibn ziri “ who gave it the name “ jazair banu mazghanna “ in Arabic , and banu mazghanna are a Berber tribe who lived in Algiers , than the name was shortened to “ el jazair “ till today and the whole county took the same name of the capital . Algiers has many nicknames : the white because the “ old casbah “ people used to paint their houses in white , and it’s also called : the guarded one or the guarded by god because at one point in history all European kings guided by the Spanish king attacked Algiers (because at the time we were the strongest kingdom in the Mediterranean Sea nobody could pass without paying taxes )but suddenly a storm started and all their boats were destroyed 😂 people took it as a sign of god and apparently the king of Spain today never wears a crown because of this one ancestor who was shamed by his people for the defeat , and Algiers is also called “ Al bahja “ = the dazzling one
Kingdom of Algeria or Al jazair was part of the ottomans but at some point they split and only remained militarily and economically related ❤
The European buildings were built by Algerians who were forced to work just like slaves and with Algerian resources , there was 700 castles Andalusian style and beautiful houses that were destroyed and replaced by these European buildings that were created for the European settlers
The mosque you’ve seen far away is not in construction it’s finished months ago it’s called “ the great mosque “ it was built in a place called “ muhamadia “ comes from Muhammad, it replaced a church that was created by the French colonizers to forcefully convert Muslims to Christianity and start christianizing all Africa from that point and there was a whole tribe that was killed in there
And the pope’s name was Charles lavigerie and it is said that he went up through that hill and said “ where are you now Muhammad? “ proudly insulting the dead ones and Islam
