    I know this was over 5 yrs ago, but one of my local dealers had the stainless version with the blue grips, but was asking about $350 more. I absolutely loved the look, and feel of the gun, but was hesitant about spending $1200 + tax. A couple months later, it sold, but not to me, damn it. Used to have a gorgeous 1911 government model 70 😅Mark IV (I believe) many years ago, and have missed it for the many years since. Personally, I think this makes the perfect home protection weapon…more stopping power, with hopefully less penetration (meaning beyond your target).

    I've had 1 since November and it runs flawlessly. I switched out the grips for Pachmayr American Legends and the recoil is minimal. 1 of the smoothest and best feeling .45s you can get.
    Nice video!

    I bought one 4months ago. It came with two 8 round Mags. I called Colt and advised them there add said it came with two 10 round SS Mags. They apologized for the mistake and sent me two 10 round SS, no charge and told me to keep the 8 rounds.

    Very nice! I have one in 9mm, and love it. I wish I'd got one in .45 too. You started out right on your first 1911. COlt was making great pistols when they made these. Too bad they stopped, again.

      Quentin Jensen have you used some different magazines, and if so what kind? I need to pick a few more up. 200rds, down the pipe so far and not a problem of any kind.

      I have not bought any extra yet, just shooting the two stainless that it came with. But I did change the mainspring housing to a textured Wilson Combat. Gave me a better grip. I'm currently looking at some WC mags.

    OK. The gun shot great. Accurate and reliable, but I found the factory VZ grips had scratched the frame once I removed the grips for cleaning. Did you notice this with your gun? Not sure if this is normal with VZ grips. A little annoying, but otherwise very satisfied with this Colt offering.

    I still have my Colt 1911-A1, made and bought in 1990. Shoots well, got it for 550 balloons. But the front-sights are loosely fitted. Comes off when I shoot 230 grain-hardball, reloads cycles well.

      Got this in stainless, definitely a bullseye shooter. The 4 lb trigger feels amazing and when you miss you know it was your fault. I'm nothing special as a shooter and shot a group the size of an apple at 10 yards in 24 rounds. Put 200 rounds through it so far and havent had any issues. Highly recommend. I'm surprised there arent more vids on youtube about it for a fantastic sort of "midrange" 1911

  • @sgtjarhead99
    @sgtjarhead99 Před 3 lety

    This is the same gun I have, only in Series 70s. Don't know about you, but when my grips got loose during a firing session, they scratched the hell out of frame. Didn't realize it until I took these VZ grips off. The material used by these factory grips is just way to abrasive in opinion.

    You’re right, not many CZcams videos on the Colt competition firearm. I see that your video is 7 years old. I bought mine with the blue grips. Unfortunately Colt no longer offers 2 magazines with their guns anymore. I bought this 2024
    You can’t even get these mags on the Colt website. It always says sold out. I called Colt and complained that the mag that I got was no good. Colt sent me out a free magazine.
    These Colt magazines cost an average of $50 bucks. My Father thinks that many gun dealers take the second magazine out and sell it. Screwing over Colt customers by telling them it only comes with one magazine. eBay is a good place to get original Colt magazine.
    The good thing that I like owning a Colt magazine is that it’s made out of all steel. This Colt competition has a titanium firing pin. I bet that you didn’t know that.
    I kinda wish that I spent an extra $1000 on a Gold Cup but no regrets I’m happy with this gun. Very heavy gun to carry. I heard in world war 1 and world war 2 that when soldiers ran out of ammo from their rifle that they would use the Colt 45 as a back up.
    Often when soldiers were fighting close combat fighting. When they run out of ammo for their Colt 45, they would pistol whip the enemy with it for self defense.
    I read about this one soldier during world war 1 was in serious fighting in a trench and they were being over run by the enemy. Apparently this American soldier was a small man, and this big German soldier attacked him. The German soldier also ran out of ammo.
    Anyway he managed to pistol whip the German soldier breaking his jaw shattering several teeth. The German soldier surrendered.
    Many pilots and bomber crews carried the Colt 45 I truly believe it was an advanced gun during that time period.
    Another story I read about during world war 2 was about an American pilot that got shot down and was found by the French underground. He ran to the cockpit and found the dead pilot. He quickly took the pilots Colt 45 and two additional magazines before the German s found the plane.
    Guns for the French under ground fighters were extremely hard to get during occupied France. He used the pilots gun to kill German officers when they would walk alone in the streets. Eventually he used up all the ammo for the Colt 45.
    He hid the gun cause Colt 45 rounds were next impossible to find in occupied France during that times. He would steal the 9 mm Luger from dead German officers and the extra ammo that they carried and give them to resistance fighters. He said he never had to use more than one Colt 45 cartridge to kill a German soldier.
    He said that he really loved using the Colt 45 cause it had amazing stopping power. The only problem was in occupied France was that the Colt 45 was extremely loud gun to shoot.
    Some of the resistance fighters were very jealous of him owning a fine American Colt 45. When he ran out bullets he switched to the German Luger.

    • @brianb900
      @brianb900 Před 4 lety

      I own both. Both shoot good and feel good due to the dual recoil springs. The main thing that I like about the gold cup is the wider trigger. There’s no real advantage to it, it just feels good when you put your finger on it.

    Grates on my nerves when a fine firearn is slide / tossed / drug / pulled-pushed on concrete, wood, steel, gravel, dirt, tile, marble.
    Especially when in this day and age we're surronded by silk, rayon, wool, cotton.
    I'll just have to chalk it up to two things: ignorance and/or lack of planning... . . .
