- We took the Polaris Xpedition, the Can Am Defender and the Polaris Ranger and did a real life field test comparing the cab noise and the AC temp of all three under the exact same conditions.

Has two different motors that are not even comparable. The Defender is a very old design that needs a remodel. Imagine throwing in that Mav R touchscreen and DCT with a slight bump in power. I would be sold!
Polaris has just released a clutch kit fix for this *Jan 30 2024) - parts and labour are covered- the fix is new weights in the primary= they say that a new helix and springs are not necessary and have minimal impact on the revs and performance - contact your dealer - I would love to hear from someone that has this fix installed
But the expedition has the rear encloser where the motor is only covered in plastic panels, where the other ones the motor noise is under the box and separated by glass.
What clutch kit did the dealer install to get that rpm reduction? Regardless if you are a paid endorser/salesman of Polaris (lol) I agree with your findings. I actually own a 2023 Can Am Defender Max Lonestar Cab and a 2024 Polaris Xpedition Northstar 2 seater and the Can Am is definitely quieter. I have even done some sound deadening on the Polaris and switched to 32 inch tires to help some but still louder by far. Now looking at clutching and exhaust options.
Hey Gordon- It was the after market assassin sir
@@Lance_Dale thank you. That's the one I was going to use as I have experience with them on my Pro XP and Mike the owner is awesome to work with.
I'd love to see a decibel test of the new polaris ranger HD 1500 with its new 3 cylinder. Apparently it's fairly quiet
The videos I've seen they loud as hell
I don't like the suicide doors on the ranger. I would only pursue a purchase if I could reverse how the doors open.
The Ranger and the Xpedition have 2 totally different engines
For every 3 decibels the loudness doubles
Can you list what parts the dealer added to the Xpedition? Thank You
Aftermarket assassins has a clutch kit for lower rpms.
yes what parts to the clutch were added
my expedion is way to loud
My 2023 can am defender max XT is super quiet and I can have my portable radio and all open cab, where I can have a normal none yelling conversation. I don’t agree with your results or what you went with. Just your own opinion
fair- how should I change it sir? maybe I can do another with some changes
@@Lance_Dale just seems to me that you favor Polaris at $17k more. I’ve seen others where they complain about the loud cab noise. I use to own a Polaris and they are much louder. I don’t believe your watch is accurate. We also didn’t get to actually see the numbers on your watch or cooling device, so it’s like we have to take your word for it. You also kept the decibel for the Polaris at 77 where the defender you kept varying the decibel reading. It’s like you kept increasing the number on the defender so the Polaris is close to the defender. It’s one reading just like the others. It’s not a fair comparison when you lean towards one brand over the other. We also didn’t get to see if you actually went the same speed in each one.
My 22 can am is way quieter than any Polaris that I was ever around my opinion. Can am better all around have ridden or owned both
Having owned them all i can testify the defender is absolutely the quietest.
This full of it. Definitely a salesman for Polaris
Dyna mat can make it quieter and insulate it more.
Wow, I could never get used to that high RPM whine of the Polaris. And you even had the clutch fix kit in it already!?
Sounds like a car stuck in 1st gear!
The Can-am is amazingly nicer sounding on the road test.
For reference, in the audio world a 6dB difference is what happens when you are standing 2x as far or 1/2 as close to a speaker.
That is fairly significant.
Tone matters as well. The Polaris sounds like it's just screaming. The Can-am has more of a lower frequency drone.
Well, its a 2 stroke.. they're sound like they're screaming when they aren't. Much like a two stroke motorbike or Screaming Jimmy (GM/Detroit) diesel.
There is always something wrong on a Polaris stick with a small crew truck it’s cheaper in purchase cost and operational cost. It will last a lot longer too. Plus a new truck will come with a warranty
They aren’t as fun. Also a sxs is more in ole and capable in situations where there isn’t a gravel road. If your opinion was so right than why do so many people purchase work sxs units and not rangers or tocomas?
@@mingomane1 because it was cheaper to buy the sxs but not now.
For me these machine are strictly to view large ranches to sell and or purchase. I have tried small trucks, GEM cars, bad boys etc. Nothing can replace these for my work needs.
@@Lance_Dale hey whatever works best for your intended application I sure some folks look at it as an amusement ride being they never ridden in one.
I take people riding up in northern Wisconsin and it start out nice riding in my ranger then it’s like ok we had enough of riding in the golf cart. 50+ miles
Want to see that new ranger
Thanks for the review, great information. This people below are goof balls. "You took your time to do this video but didn't show your Watch or Gun" Really, lmao.... Thanks again...
For what these things cost they are all far to noisy. Its ridiculous
agreed
not apples to apples. without the changes on the expedition I'll bet it would have run in the mid 80 decibels
Totally agree
Apples to apples put a cap on the defender so it also resembles a bass canon… 🤦🏻♂️
The polaris machines don't have same engine
yup, my bad
nothing about these tests were the same lol way too many variables
I disagree. This was about the most objective test I’ve seen on this topic. Had several popular newer models. Great video.
