Just as an FYI - the group in this video is better known at the Peterson Group. They broke off the the AUB. The guy in the video is so well spoken because he's an attorney. So that explains the way he speaks. He will gladly talk to you guys, he's very outspoken. The Petersons tend to follow Lorin C. Woolley's teachings. These are the fundamentalists found over in Beryl and Modena with that unusual pyramid shaped temple. I wonder if they've moved their temple to Nevada? I'm willing to bet that young pregnant girl grew up around Beryl/Modena. Her husband going to school in Mesquite is intriguing, though. I wonder if he's from Bunkerville.
Yup. And one of the biggest reasons they broke off from the AUB was because the former was "going soft" on the Curse of Cain doctrine. So basically - racism.
@@emilyb8763 Ooomph, the AUB is a whole different story. But it would be fun to get super deep talking about other AUB issues. Like... oh, Ervil LeBaron and the whole Lamb of God Hit list. I mean, people don't understand when they say there are TONS of random break-off groups, there really are. Most of them pretty small. I mean, LeBaron was about as evil as Warren Jeffs, if not more so, if you ask me....and that's saying something.
@InternetJury Oh, big agree. BIG. Was just chiming in on your initial comment that addressed the "Who are these people and who did they split off from? And WHY?" question. That's probably why Benjamin skirted the question so skillfully. He was pretty blatant and forthcoming about a lot of stuff, but as an attorney, he knows he can't say "We split off bc the apostates think non-white people are like...people."

At This is the Place Monument Park in SLC, they have huge statues that show how the Mormon army fought the US government. They also teach the Deseret Alphabet there too. It’s a phonetic alphabet
The idea that women are "more jealous" than men, when it's only the men who are taking on multiple spouses, is ridiculous. If the women started taking on multiple husbands the men would lose their sh**.
In fact, there should be a different term. The words "polygamy" or "plural marriage," make it sound like their are just multiple people in the marriage--not one man and multiple wives only.
Polygamy does literally mean "multiple wives". The word for multiple husbands is polyandry. But you're definitely right about the jealousy concept. The men think they're less jealous only because they've never been called upon to confront and overcome their jealousy 😅
My mom regularly cycled through all our names before landing on the kid she wanted. There were three of us.
Add in the pets as well. We had five in our family and we just waited until shevsaid the last name.
I'll say sorry from all the mum's out there lol. I have 3 children and 1 dog I cycle through names until I get the right child's name. I even throw in my dogs name when calling them and he always looks at me weird, like hey woman you realise I'm a dog hehe
I have 4 grown kids, 2 grands and have had various pets through the years. I also cycled, and still cycle, through the names, and often the pets as well. I only had one sister and my mom constantly called us by the other's name. I think it's pretty normal for most parents. I don't know anyone that doesn't laugh about doing it.

I love your point that when you are in a high control religion you don’t realize you’re being controlled as well, even though you can recognize it in other groups
I was actually kind of shocked to see them admit to the Adam-God doctrine. This is a pretty core Mormon belief (even though the Church would deny this now). It's one of the main reasons a lot of Christians don't consider Mormonism to be part of Christianity to be honest.

It’s a fundamental reason Mormonism is not Christian and utter blasphemy. Disobeying God and believing Satan’s lie that they could become “like God” is what got Adam and Eve banished from the Garden. How much worse to believe that you could one day actually “become” a God, as these people do!
I really like how you offer kind criticism coupled with empathy regarding coercive control. A lot of people really don't even understand how coercive control works. The channel Growing up in Scientology, which would be a great collab. But he talks about how no one in Scientology thinks it's a cult. And you can't go in and "rescue" people because they might not like what's happening all the time, but they believe they're doing the right thing. The prison of belief.

I feel for A-Aron. I’ve been screwed in a WTF sort of way. It was great hearing him say all the things I couldn’t.
I learned about the LDS from a co-worker at American Airlines. I retired after 37 years. I am gay and met my Mormon friend on a flight from Dallas, TX, to San Jose, Costa Rica. We became friends and never had a boyfriend or intimate relationship with one another. We lived in Manhattan, New York City. He grew up in what he called "the bubble" of Salt Lake City. He was "outed" to his family by a friend of his sister. His parents were school teachers. After one year, his parents welcomed him home. I met them. His mother told me that John was her son, and she could not let anything come between them. He only has one sister and one brother. They had a relationship with him as well. They were both married at the Temple in Salt Lake. He had to wait outside. He lived in Miami and could not get a "Temple recommend." One last thing. When the new temple was built in Ft. Lauderdale, the church not only allowed a local news team inside to tour and film, but they also allowed the general public to tour. I took advantage of that. It was open for three days. We were allowed in all rooms. It was very interesting. He had gone on a mission to Peru. He did have intimate experiences with other missionaries. I wish all of you the very best and look forward to watching your videos.

I am not Mormon, nor have I ever been Mormon or part of organized religion. I grew up and went to public school with many Mormons, some who have left the church and some who have stayed. Found you by watching one of Peter's videos and was fascinated by it. Just finished watching this one. You two are great. Love watching your reactions, and I learned SO much!!
So if they don't want to be called Mormons, does that mean they'll rename the Book of Mormon and print all new ones? Thanks for reacting to another one of Peter's documentaries, I love the way he can ask questions without making the people he's talking to feel like they're being judged.

Now that I think about it, it never occurred to me that the wives would split up after the husband died. I guess I figured they were sister wives - a family - so they would stay together as a family. It seems strange to me that your kids would have all these “moms” they just didn’t live with anymore. They got new “moms.” That seems so odd to me, but then again it all seems odd to me, so …
Well, women can’t be priesthood holders so they couldn’t possibly lead a home and family!!!😂

There is a reason why the featured group didn’t exist, until the early 1980’s.
Until a few decades ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints taught that they “shall be a white and a delightsome people,” a phrase literally taken from the Book of Mormon.
Until the 1970s, the LDS Church also restricted black members’ participation in important rituals and prohibited black men from becoming priests.
Like most Mormon break away, “fundamentalist”, groups; they are were created by white supremacists. Name a better way for Mormon to be openly racist, than to claim the teachings of Joseph Smith represents the truth.

@@MsLT62 Joseph Smith was definitely racist. He didn’t put any black men in church callings, invite them to do super secret rituals or join in his secret polygamy club. Furthermore he defended the practice of slavery when asked. He just wasn’t as racist as Brigham Young.

I always think on the topic of polygamy being "natural" is if that same answer would apply if it was one woman and multiple husbands. I can't imagine men would ever call that natural in that case! lol
They wouldn't call it natural. The way I've heard it is that polygamy its natural because the fathers can spore dozens or more of children. A woman isn't going to have more children simply by having more men.
Yes like men would not be equally jealous in that situation (overall).

Nothing about polygamy is natural. What's natural and right is one man and one woman.
Modern women do live this way, they sleep around with new men every week. Sleeping with only 2 or 3 men on a regular basis would be an upgrade for modern women.

I lived in Gilbert, AZ for 12 years. The Mormon folk I met were so lovely, chill, non judgemental. Now the Mormon folk that moved from Utah, that is another story. Warren Jeffs phone calls should be monitored. He should not be allowed to dictate what should go.on in the messed up Mormon Community, crazy!
I was thinking about that as well when they mentioned that Jeffs was on the phone for over 2 hours giving out revelation - surely the prison system would not allow him such a long phone call would they?
16:24 Hi dear Melissa and Sam, I haven’t lived in a plural family, but when you (Sam) say your father went through several different names and how it made you all chuckle 🤭 I too remember my grandfather (maternal), who basically was more like a father figure to me from when I was a newborn and until I was 8 years old, when he suddenly died of massive heart attack!
But he too, (he and my grandmother had 3 daughters, and I were their first born granddaughter and anyway, as I got older more grandchildren came along and I remember my papaw went through at least 4-5 different names *every* time he was referring to one of us. I assume, I come from a very musical family and my papaw was an educated pianist, but as soon as my grandmother became pregnant with their first daughter (my mother sister) he quickly realized he needed a more reliable income and he reeducated himself and became an architect & builder (he was the one who made the drawings, and oversaw changes if needed to the original drawings for the construction of the houses, until everything was finished, which in essence I fully understood now because it was a lot more lucrative work, but it wasn’t his passion. I have such fond memories of us, gathering in the living room and he and my mother often played together (four hands) on the piano 🎹 whilst me, my mamaw, and whoever else was there sang together.
Auch… memories so precious, they bring me both joy, happiness and sadness.
But if I’ve learned anything in my life it’s that happiness and sadness can coexist simultaneously very perfectly and in a peaceful way.
So right now I smile and I cry so much.
But that’s ok. Life is full of coexisting emotions and I do my best to not judge my feelings and instead “cherish” them, the fact that I have had the great privilege of living this life, remember them and it’s a blessing to know they will always be a part of me as well as my papaw will forever be part of me (or I of him?) anyway thank you both for your loving nature. When I watch your videos I feel peaceful.

Question: Being raised in a mixed Lutheran/ Catholic family, and am really interested in why the priesthood is so special if every man has it. If I understand correctly LDS priest, really nothing more then high school classes studying 3 or 4 large contradicting books. As you know pastors and priest go through a rather long training process. Which takes the out of the masses an into the priesthood. Also do bishops still do their daily jobs while doing their calling? That seems impossible if they do. Thanks guys. 💜
Mormon priesthood is less about knowledge than about authority. Only Mormon priests can perform ordinances such as baptism, blessing the sacrament, etc. without this authority, the ordinances are invalid and void. Joseph Smith restored this authority which was lost due to the "great apostasy". The LDS church is a lay church, most people work regular jobs and volunteer for positions including bishops. Many bishops have a burnout due to overwork of 30 hours a week besides their day job.
Serving as the Bishop of a congregation (ward) IS a particularly demanding calling, so they're only asked to serve for 5-7 yrs. There are always two other men serving with him called counselors along with many other callings done by men & women carrying out the functions of the congregation.
You don’t have to be paligamist to forget names or to go through all names to get to the right one…
But it definitely doesn’t help 😂

I didn't read through all the comments, but what I walked away with from Peter's video and this one is that not a single person he interviewed was actually currently living in a plural marriage and I found that strange that they consider themselves polygamous.
I assume anyone practicing it actively wouldn’t want to admit it on camera, considering it’s illegal and a few people have been sent to prison partially as a result of publicizing their lifestyle

They keep to themselves
You may see some members around the community shopping etc. who you can identify by their unique style of dress. But there are other groups, like those in this video whose members you would not be able to identify as being part of a fundamentalist group. They are all generally nice people. They do tend to keep to themselves, but will interact politely if you're friendly with them.
I have to wonder if that older woman maybe has some additional quirks that aren’t part of their church. Like the vitality mats-I backed up the video to before the food came out, and no one else had any little squares of fabric at the ready.
Re: the head coverings, I’m reminded of Kody Brown’s fixation on Jewish customs (he had the family celebrate Hannukah, he cherry picks dietary restrictions from the kosher laws). In his interview with Bill Reel and RFM, he went on a tangent about Joseph Smith being born during Hannukah, and how he thought that was some coded indication of..well, it didn’t quite make sense, he didn’t really connect the dots, but it seemed to be a line of thinking that leads to appropriating certain Jewish customs out of context and considering them fundamentals that had been lost. Seeing these guys in kippahs makes me wonder if there’s some similar logic involved. The women covering their heads could be traced to I Corinthians.
I am a member of Christ's Church, so I do want to confirm. Yes, the vitality mats are a personal lifestyle choice for her. That isn't something taught as a religious ordinance or belief in our church.

Not LDS, but my poor grandfather had 4 daughters and almost exclusively female grandchildren, so in his older years if he was talking to you you'd get called everyone else's name except yours for a few minutes until he got the right name 😂😂
I think the lady with the long hair is just a fan of "woo woo" in general.
As a Jew, I so want to ask him about his belief that changing the covenant of a religion is not good because that's Christianity to us. In general, he sounds like an interesting person to talk to.
Also as a Jew, the kippa and maybe also holding the hands out is from us. A kippa (pronounced KEE-puh or kee-PAH) (also known as a yarmulke (YAH-muh-kuh) in Yiddish) is worn by men and shows a) that we remember G-d and b) that we're Jews (some people also add to point a that G-d is above us metaphorically). It's not religiously required but it would be hard to find a religious Jew in a place where it is safe to do so NOT wear a kippa. Even in places where it isn't safe to do so many cover their heads with a hat or a hoodie. Non-religious men will often wear a kippa during religious ceremonies and since Jewish ceremonies usually have food that might have been where he got wearing it during eating from.
As for the other thing? Jews use prayer books and when we mime praying we hold out our hands like we're holding a prayer book so maybe he got it from that.
This is so interesting! Cause I'm raised very much Evangelical-Lutheranian, so Protestant. If I would tell my mom about any what you are explaining about the Mormon church in this video, she would fall over backwards! This is SO far away from any of the things I was thought and what is belived in the protetant interpretation of the bible, that I wouldn't even call it christianity. SOO wild to listend to and really interesting!
I would be so curious what you would say about a fictional mormon character from Fallout New Vegas. I'm not religious but he is by far my favourite character from this game. QUESTION FOR SAM: So im really wondering, if you have a family ( husband, sisterwives, kids ) and for this example the husband dies, then you get a other husband and sisterwives. How does it works in heaven? Because they believe theire husband is forever also after dead so how does that works? Which husband is then your husband in heaven the last one?
Hi! Sam here. Thanks for the question. It is said that women can only be sealed to one husband on this earth. So if a woman is married and sealed for time and eternity and then the husband dies, that woman cannot be sealed to anyone else. She could be remarried but only for time on this earth.

In the case of the woman interviewed in the beginning who had two husbands die...who would she believe she spends eternity with in the afterlife? Would it be her first or second husband? Both?
That is a really good question that nobody seems to have a clear answer to.
That's what I was wondering; was she only sealed to the first husband, thus taking her place in the celestial kingdom with him? Or sealed to both, with the most recent being her celestial husband? I'd LOVE to see a longer interview with her!

Their main hub was originally located near Burle Utah. Their first “failed experiment” if you will. They migrated to a settlement near tonopah, Nevada near the end of their last Prophet’s life.
I’m enjoying your conversations so very much! I grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness and it floors me how many similarities there are between them and LDS. Even some of the terminology, like “worldly” comes to mind, that are used so broadly in both religions. Surely JW’s must’ve branched off from Mormons at some point. A lot of the terminology and word-smithing rings my alarm bells as I strongly believe that JW’s are a cult, so it makes me feel that Mormonism is as well. JW’s call themselves “The Truth”. It’s just so similar and interesting. Thanks for your videos. And yes, I found your channel via Peter’s. I absolutely love what he is doing! ❤

Once the beautiful Mona Lisa was pointed out, I could not unlook at her. Stunning . I’m Catholic lol. Growing up there was a home that the highway tabernacle bought and turned into a church and they took an Easter bunny. Put a Bible in him put him on the front yard and burnt him. So that church became the bunny burner church. This was in the early 80s.. lol
So, what was Sam’s accent like before he learned Spanish? He sounds a bit like a rancher Montana guy be cause we have a weird mix of Hutterites, ex-Hutterites, Norwegian Americans and a bit of the Fargo thing. We also have a kind of tribal thing mixed it there because their are a lot of Native Americans.

Many other bigger issues for polygamous lifestyles IMHO. Lack of parental involvement, fear as the primary religious motivation, doctrine that promotes a prophet, shunning outside activities and on and on and on. I don't see plural marriage automatically equating to sexual perversion. Just enormously misguided

Pedophilia is an unknown idea in Flds. There is no knowledge/ understanding that marry a young girl as being nasty or sinful. AND ALSO, refusing a wife the prophet has "revealed" for a man, would mean being immediately kicked out of the church and forced to leave. The man's current wives and children would be assigned/married to other men as women/children "belong" to the flds church. It's all about fear and reaching celestial heaven. Can't do it if you don't follow the prophet without question in FLDS.
Unfortunately, this is not just a Mormon or religious thing. There are still a bunch of states in which there is NO MINIMUM AGE for a person to get married with parental consent. Often, it's a double bind too, because the parents might marry off their 10 or 12 year old daughter, but then the kid is not able to initiate divorce proceedings in their own name until they reach 18 years old.

All I have watched and listened to is Polygamy is not the biggest issue but marriages to underage girls and removing the fathers. Many of the earlier families enjoyed their lifestyle.
