  • I take you on a climb of Mt. Borah, Idaho's tallest peak. The summit is at 12,662 ft / 3,859m. This is one of the toughest high points in the United States. There are only a few tougher ones.
The hike and climb take 12+ hours to complete from car to summit to car. Chicken Out Ridge is famous for scaring climbers and making them turn back:

Apparently, if you are fast, you can round trip this mountain in 5 hours. That's a pretty impressive stat considering you gain 5,212 ft (1,588m) on the climb. It took me 12 hours round trip of hiking & climbing. It took an additional 2 hours to film. I also lost my tripod during the filming. :(

I was one of the first on the mountain and nearly the last off. Climbed this mountain solo and the exposure for me was quite intense, I followed the heard on the inside the ridge and was scared shitless.

That's some serious scrambling up top, especially with that POV angle

      It's pretty steep for sure.

Congratulations on successfully scrambling to Mt Borah's summit.
I, too, find the summer weight Buff Headgear is functional in a wide range of temperatures & weather conditions.
You mentioned you started off with 3.5L of water. Did you carry your water in a bladder based drink system or so-called "Smart" water bottles?
    What backpack were you carrying?
The tallest peak in Arizona, Mt Humphrey (12,633') not quite as high as Mt Borah, however, you can reach the summit without using your arms & having to scramble.
    Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.

Thanks! I just used my old-school 1L and 0.5L Nalgene bottles. Simplicity and reuse.

I missed climbing Humphrey when I was there last time. I'll have to put it on the to-do list.
I ate 2,150 calories and ended up drinking 3.1L of water. It was 60ºF when I started, warmed up to 72ºF, and had winds up to 20kts.

That looks awful. Not going there! Ok thanks for pointing out the trail. Your route looked super sketchy.

      It's a challenge for sure.
