      It's spelled out in the form of spectres, they get sent to get shit done what fleets and armies can't. Sure a Volus fleet would wipe out a base or two, but commandos like Zaeed would wipe it out without even a reaper response.

    Had Zaeed been upfront about it and not so brazen in his "burn the whole thing down", the team easily could have eliminated Vido without endangering the workers. On the other hand, if Shepard had put in a call to the Normandy, it could have easily shot down Vido's shuttle as he's leaving.

    • @guilhermehank4938
      @guilhermehank4938 Před 3 lety +189

      Zaeed was reckless and endangered the mission over his own personal feelings, that shows his flaws as a squad mate. He doesnt think things through before throwing himself at danger. The mission was all about bringing that issue to light and decide if Zaeed would get over it and become loyal or remain stunborn and die. The loyal missions are pure character study.

    • @Skyblade12
      @Skyblade12 Před 3 lety +152

      @@guilhermehank4938 Absolutely. The problem was, taking out Vido was Zaeed's goal from the beginning. Had he been honest and a team player, we could have done that with no problem and saved the workers. He STARTED the fire that endangered the workers because he was pushing an objective contrary to that of the mission. Had he been willing to work as a team, this entire situation would have been avoided. It WAS a good character moment to reveal that solo aspect to him, but I just felt like that part needed some reiteration.

    Something I think could've been cool was having more squadmates gain alternative loyalty abilities depending on whether or not you complete it paragon or renegade, much like how Samara's mission gives you one of two powers based on if you help Samara or Morinth. Like here, you see Zaeed chuck his thermal clip into the oil to set Vido on fire during the renegade option, which can lead up to his inferno grenades, but then if you did the paragon path, he would get an entirely different power

    • @marpj6138

      It does change what upgrade you get depending of Paragon or Renegade. IIRC with renegade you get a rifle upgrade while with Paragon you get a Heavy weapon upgrade (maybe its the other way around).
      But I agree that a more substancial change (which power you get) would be amazing.
      Personally I wish we had more class specific actions (I think only the engineer has one and its in a DLC). Like on the shooting rage with Garrus (again ME3), it would be great if you would miss the last shot (no paragon points) unless you are a Infiltrator (or soldier) in which case you would have the paragon option or just win. But nope, no class specific actions

    Here's why I always take the renegade route:
    -Assault rifle weapon upgrade (I mostly play as a soldier)
    -No need to worry about having enough paragon points.
    -Badass cutscene, the way Zaeed takes out Vido is like an action movie.
    -Vido is the leader of a major mercenary gang, taking him out would weaken the Blue Suns (similar to how killing Balak weakens the Baterians) sacrifice a few to save more.
    -I couldn't accept that Zaeed would be loyal after Shepard after just talking with him. 20 years is a long time for hatred to build up I doubt Zaeed could focus on the mission just because Shepard gave him a lecture. If it were me I would still be distracted and would secretly harbor resentment against Shepard.
    -Also Zaeed mentions that he’s only going along for the money, thats not loyalty, to really gain his loyalty Shepard needs to do something *for* him. Would it make sense to gain Samara’s loyalty if Morinth gets away? Or gain Miranda’s loyalty if her sister gets taken? The squad needs a clear head and to establish a relationship with Shepard and I felt this was the best way.

    The choice of leaving Zaeed to die has so much of that "leave the bad guy to die alone" cliche found in Hollywood scripts, but Bioware pulled off the Hollywood feel so well in Mass Effect 2 that it honestly felt like I was watching a TV series while playing this game.

    I don't know which option sounds like the best. I mean given the story of Mass Effect 2 the idea of someone being too crazy to take on the suicide mission is appealing in a role play perspective, but then again I can't resist those juicy war assets in Mass Effect 3.

    This mission is always so irritating as a paragon player. Zaeed is one of my least favorite squad mates in ME2 and this mission is one of the only missions I remember where you have to go renegade in order to actually keep up with the original objective.
    He gets a bit more respectable in ME3 tho, so that’s why I keep him alive and loyal, and because I don’t feel right having him die, even if he’s an ass the whole time

    Zaeed reminds me a lot of Hackett. Both ruthless, both have a grudge against Batarians and both vengeful. In my opinion revenge never leads to anything good so being paragon makes sense. Zaeed can mope and be hypocritical all he wants but disciplining him here is satisfying. Shoving a gun in his face for the second time is badass.

    • @lippi2171
      @lippi2171 Před 9 měsíci

      I agree, just took the Renegade route to try it out but feel kinda bad. Zaeed was UNHINGED during the whole mission and needed to be put to place instead of giving him what he wanted. Because of this, leaving the innocent people behind never felt justified to me. It was like sacrificing them so that an old butt hurt outlaw can have his petty revenge. Not very Shepard-like if you ask me, so I think the 'Paragon' path is the correct one here.
      Also, the dilemma could've been easily solved by splitting up or asking the Normandy to go after Vito's ship.
