Angela Brown's Top 7 Dusters Professional House Cleaners Use

  • These are Angela Brown's top 7 dusters for professional house cleaners for 2022. Her philosophy is why use two dusters when one will do? Each duster has multiple capabilities and can be used on various surfaces. Some dusters are easier to carry than others, and some are preferred because they are washable or disposable.
    In Angela Brown's top 7 dusters you will find three used for maintenance cleaning (that is your weekly or bi-weekly cleaning.) You will also see the three dusters she prefers for deep cleaning. There is one duster that she recommends leaving at the customer's house to prevent cross-contamination between house to house.
    While the most popular dusters remain constant year after year, those that rise to the top varies based on the job at hand.
    Today's Ask a House Cleaner show on #dusting sponsor is #SavvyCleaner training and certification for house cleaners and maids. (savvycleaner.com/join) And your host today is #AngelaBrown

    My favorite duster is the OXO duster. I have the handheld wand and the extension pole wand. The same red dust head can be used on both. Just toss the heads into the washer, tumble dry and you’re all set - so easy.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +5

      It's true you can wash them which saves so much money on disposable dusters. And the thing I like best about the DocaPole is that the end that screws in is a universal thread so all sorts of other things can be screwed in there (from pole saws to camera mounts.) Lots of utility.

    Hi Angela, I have to say thank you for all of your wonderful video's. I am new to your channel and I must say what a joy it is to watch you and discover the latest in cleaning supplies. You have the best tips on how to clean properly. I have a very close friend who is also a die-hard cleaner (she doesn't have a business and neither do I) but we are avid cleaners and over the years, we have often shared cleaning tips with one another. My colleagues at work look at me when I tell them I get to clean the house this weekend. When they realize I'm serious, they just shake their heads in sympathy and think I don't have any kind of life. I am a very busy individual, but cleanliness is a must for me and I find it extremely therapeutic when I do. I use your recommended supplies and products to help maintain and deep clean my home. My family stays healthy and I feel that I'm doing my part to help them stay that way. Keep up the great work, you have a beautiful spirit and are so filled with joy when you talk about cleaning supplies and give those wonderful recommendations. May the new year continue to be successful for you, your family and your business!

    I have only had it 2 days, but I LOVE the "Long" duster, although I bought an OXO. I love OXO kitchen tools: they just work, they fit my hands well, they last! I have the small brush set you recommend and also and electronics thing. I recently bought OXO mini dust pan and brush which also works well on laptop/tablet. But back to my fav even with limited experience ... I used it all over my little (1 br/1 bath) cabin-ranch house and was amazed at how much better it worked for me than dust rag or microfiber cloth. I don't have a lot of knick-knacks and I am not minimalist, but also not much clutter/stuff. The long duster made short work of walls, surfaces, cabinets, desk, TV/tv stand, wall photos/pictures, legs of tables and chairs (I have a number of ladderback plus homemade painted sawhorse desk and craft table) ... anyway, the long duster did most. Today, I received an OXO "delicate" duster and will test that on the few items not covered by the long duster.

    My favorite duster has always been the regular Swiffer. I have one with a shorter extension handle that I just don't love. Now, maybe Swiffer 360 would be a better option. The handle looks more sturdy, and I like the idea of a center connection to the head of the duster. I think I need 4-6 of those Compact Static Dusters. Thanks, Angela!

    Thanks Angela this is so helpful! I clean a couple of homes that have 30' high ceiling and log cabin walls. Would you recommend the Doca kit for cleaning those walls? I find I have to deep clean them once or twice a year as the dust really builds up depending on how often the customers leave their windows open. Or can you recommend something for log walls?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před rokem +2

      The DocaPole cleaning kit is useful for reaching high ceilings, but may not be the best choice for cleaning log walls. For log cabin walls, use a soft-bristled brush or vacuum attachment to remove surface dirt and dust, or mix warm water and mild soap to clean with a soft cloth or sponge. It's also possible to hire a professional log home maintenance company to clean and maintain the walls. Choose a safe and effective cleaning method that won't damage the log cabin walls.

    Two questions: #1, you always use white terry cloths, what is your opinion on the different color microfiber towels they sell at Home Depot and Lowes? Are they just a good and useful? My experience with Terry Cloths is there is lint, no? (or is that cheap terry cloth?) #2, we have dark engineered wood floor throughout our home. Engineered flooring is not the best quality and very challenging to keep clean. Gets dull and build up, what is your professional opinion on how to maintain engineered wood flooring? Thank you! LOVE your videos. I have been binge watching for hours. LOL

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Tish. 1) Terry cloths wash well (yes they do have lint - but can be sanitized on hot heat cycles unlike their microfiber competitors.)
      I always use white because they show gunk and stains easily so it is easy to see if they are actually clean-ish or if they need to be soaked before washing.
      I use them on every job but for odd things, like drying a tub or putting them on the floor so you can kneel on them when drying or squeegeeing a shower floor.
      2) Microfiber cloths - except for the glass cloths with the fine pile, all pretty much do the same thing. I have some thick ones and thin ones, and edgeless ones, and ones with edges. I'm sure there are differences but Home Depot or Lowes? Either/both are fine.
      3) Engineered flooring - dull and build up. Use a damp microfiber mop. Avoid squirt and mop products as they will promote build-up.
      Thank you for the kind words and for watching the shows. You just made my day. WELCOME!

    My mirror cloth appears to be adding more dust to the glass, not sure why, am I possibly washing them incorrectly? I cold wash with other cloths (microfibre and pillow cases) and dry on the washing line.

      Hi Dee Dee, try this video I made about the best way to clean windows and mirrors: czcams.com/video/NLdsRpGJKT0/video.html
      The cloths and other products I use are linked in the description below the video.

    What do you mean by edgeless? This brand you link to has a thread edge done by a serger.

      @AskAngelaBrown  Před rokem +2

      Oh no, I hate when this happens. We'll recommend something, and if it's out of stock, the store will roll over to a similar product - and you're right, the ones we recommend are out of stock at the moment. I did find some others (paid link amzn.to/3XfvjHU) that are edgeless. But these are a few dollars more than the ones we were recommending. Sorry about that, it was not an intentional bait-and-switch.

    What is your opinion of a quality feather duster?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +2

      Feather dusters are fantastic for dusting fragile items and Lego creations. That said, they don't have the trap and lock technology of the disposable Swiffer dusters or the clinging properties of a microfiber duster so they just move the dust from one surface to another. And the way the feathers are harvested make dusting with anything else seem like a better choice.

    I used Swiffer for a while and then thought it wasn’t “catching” the dust very well. Not sure why?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +2

      The biggest secret to Swiffer dusters is that you have to use the Swiffer brand replacement heads. I've tried the cheaper knock-off versions from the big box stores only to be saddened. I like you found they didn't have the trap and lock technology of the Swiffers and they just pushed dust around or worse, kicked it into the air. 😫😱😭

    Why do other youtubers suggest using microfiber cloths dry when dusting?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Cleaners might suggest this method because dry microfiber has an electrostatic charge that helps attract and capture dust. Hope this helps!

    Angela: Have you used the docupole squeezee and soft brush for cars on a tall tiled shower?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Julie, I don't use the DocaPole in the showers because I'm tall enough to wash and squeegee most showers, but I have used the duster part for the ceiling and bathroom ceiling fans when they went up beyond 8 ft.

    I bought the six-foot collapsible Swiffer duster, not realizing its heads were disposable rather than washable. There was no way I was going to keep paying for the replacement heads, so I made my own rag duster to go on it, which I don't trust in the washing machine but can wash by hand in the sink.

      Here is the paid link amzn.to/38ew1RX to a 3rd party company that sells microfiber Swiffer Duster replacement heads that are machine washable and reusable. Lots of professional cleaners swear by them - though I find they tend to be heavier than the original disposable duster heads.

    Hi , strange to see someone who cleans walls from dust, I guess there is lowest probability to catch dust on vertical wall other like some corners spider web, or horizontal spaces - in this case I understand, it makes sense..

      It might seem unusual, but dust can accumulate on walls over time, especially in corners and along baseboards

    What was I doing wrong? When I would use my swiffer, the duster kept falling off. Lol

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't know. I've never had a problem, though I've talked with people who have. Their solution are clear hair elastics (this is the paid link amzn.to/3vS00Hs so you can see what they look like.) You take the handle apart (it pops in two pieces) and over one end you roll a clear hair elastic and then put the handle back together. Then you pull the elastic right up over the entrance where the duster head meets the elastic and you lock it in place. That should keep the duster head from sliding off. If you try this trick, let me know how it works for you. I'm eager to hear your experience. 🤗

    I'm disappointed with the Doca pole. Not solidly built. It keeps coming loose in not just one but 3 places and spinning around. No amount of tightening or tool use seems to get it to lock securely into place. Can't have a heavy topped tool like this swinging, big liability for damaging client items. I do love the bendable dusting top and just use that by itself often!

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před rokem +1

      I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with the Doca pole. It's frustrating when a product doesn't perform as expected, and I understand your concerns about the liability of a loose and swinging tool. It's good to hear that you still find the bendable dusting top useful on its own. Have you tried reaching out to the manufacturer or retailer to see if they can offer a solution or a replacement?
