    Thanks for this.

I had a serious problem with mine smearing black ink across every page, it's just out of warranty and Epson wanted £118 to repair it. I wanted to get access to the cleaning area without manhandling the delicate print head, so I could see if there was anything obviously wrong. You gave me the solution, pulling the plug out mid-print! So simple, but at the same time genius. I have since found and cleaned a load or dried-up ink (it was like tar!) from the squeegee and pad. Works like new again, thank you!

Thanks for this, I have the same model printer and it is a great printer, our kids love printing photos from it. However it was always smearing. I took it twice to get repaired thinking it had an ink leak. I was even considering replacing it. Now after watching your video I can just clean the printer myself. I had some isopropyl alcohol handy and cleaned it today, I was amazed at how simple it is to do. Brilliant video!

Thanks mate, I did everything, and still had smudges in a line down the page on an Epson XP-720.
But what saved me was the little tip on leaving the Iso Pro wet bit of kitchen towel and running the head over the top of it. I found it was the gunk in the print had to be the hardest, as I could not see it and didn’t know how to clean it. You showing the print head going over the wet kitchen paper was so helpful. Thanks so much for posting this info. Kind regards from Melbourne Australia.

Thanks for this video. It's very helpful. This is the second time my photos and prints became smeared in maybe a couple of years of owning this printer. So it was helpful to view your video again. In fact this time I must have let the video roll on because you told me something I didn't know (or had forgotten) that I can load paper in at the back of the printer. That's so much more convenient than loading a one-off piece of photo paper in the tray. So, top marks to you. Cheers, Andrew.

I have bought about 10 Epson printers because of Ink on photos over the years. I bought the ET--7700 1 1/2 years ago and the printer started putting ink on photos too. I love Epson printers and even call company with this complaint and never heard any feed back. I have cleaned many times on all printers but once they start putting ink out , it doesn't stop. BUT never knew about maintenance box....so I have ordered one for this printer because after watching your video I found out about this. Will try this before toss put and buy new one.

Hello Virginia, I'm having the same issues and have spoken to Epson about this and mine is going back to Epson next week for them to try and sort out, I don't think it will make any difference if you change the maintenance box, your best bet is to contact them by the website and go through the long process of trying different things that they suggest,, plus did you know there is a thick paper setting on the printer? you should turn that on once you have cleaned the printer to see if that works for you.

This is a necessary video for any owners of an Epson ET-7700 printer. Like clockwork, the issue keeps coming up where I get black streaks or smearing on my prints. The second that happens, clean it like show in the video - especially the spot that looks like foam (where the print heads rest) because that builds up into a thick gunk of ink that is clearly being picked up as the print head travels. Great guide and thank you!
I wonder if there's a way to modify the printer to prevent or reduce the frequency the amount of cleaning that's needed. Or if there are any behaviours one can take to reduce the amount of ink build up in that spot (right side of the interior where the print heads rest).

Paper weight is expressed as grams per square metre...not grams. In other words a piece of paper 1m long by 1m wide would weigh 300gm if it the paper weight is 300gsm. In actual fact, the measurement is a force, weight is a force. A force = mass x acceleration. Mass is expressed in kg and acceleration (in this case is the acceleration due to gravity which is 9.81 metres per second squared). Force is measured in Newtons (after Sir Isaac Newton). We approximate acceleration due to gravity ( symbol G) as 10. Therefore, a mass of 1 kg exerts a force (on the majority of places on Earth) of 10 Newtons. On the moon, gravity is one 6th that of Earth’s gravity which is approximately 1.65 metres per second squared. Thus 1kg on the moon exerts a force of 1.65Newtons. When people talk about weight they actually mean mass which is measured in Kg. Thanks for the video, it was really informative and very interesting that you can print on fabric. I didn’t know that!

A very informative video! I've only just got into the ecotank club with the ET2720 - a lovely printer and so much more economical. Unfortunately it doesn't have one feature that yours has got - the lid doesn't open up to clean it! (Only the scanner lid, not the moving slider part!) Are your ink bottles different to the 2720 - on mine you can't actually insert the wrong colour into the tank as each bottle has a different nozzle arrangement which only fits onto the correct tank, also, the bottles will automatically stop draining when the tank is full and you just lift them off, any remaining ink is kept for top ups later.
    Thanks again for the info!

If the heads are blocked it should clear it, this is the cheapest option after doing an auto clean, if after this it is still blocked you may have to send it to Epson for them to sort it out this will cost about £120, it could also be the wrong paper or if you are using photo paper it could be upside down.

Just cleaned mine but still got some streaks. I notice you said you'd done yours a couple of months ago and was doing it again for the purposes of the video. How many times did you repeat this operation then? It's a good video by the way and I pretty much sailed through it but after having done the operation half a dozen times and still getting ink I decided to run it and see.

Thank you for the feedback, sometimes you have to print out several times before it clears also make sure there is not a dried bit of ink underneath, I love this printer but it still gives me smears every now and then especially if I don't use it all the time, plus make sure the paper is a lightweight paper, I know they say up to I think it's 300grams but keep the paperweight under 200g and don't use cheap third-party paper, let me know how you get on with it, please.

Hi Yorkie I have been cleaning my Printers in a similar fashion for years, what do you do when say one of the ink ports is blocked, seeing that there are no cartridges on the Printer head.
I did what you did with folding paper coating place the print head over the paper squirt the cleaner over all the ports, leave for a couple of minutes, slide back the printer head and clean up.
In the past, I was careful when cleaning along the inside where the surplus in goes there is a fine filter cloth, just DAB over it do not rub or the filter will come off, then it is messy putting it back.

So i called Epson and with the description i gave them, they think it might be something “mechanic” on the printer and said it is easier for me to just return it to the store. @@YorkiesBitsandBobs Hello again. Just giving you an update: i returned the defective Ecotank7700, and a few days later i decided to buy the version Ecotank7750. Can you believe that it had a similar problem? But the stripes on the paper were a lot "softer". What i discovered after various tests with different papers and brands: the printer only makes this "impressions" on the paper that dont have a brand logo behind (just like the epson or hp have), so in my opinion this is a strategy, a very ugly one. Because with Epson Paper 255gr it doesnt leave marks but with a "unbranded" paper with 180gr (its thinner!) it leaves the paper with stripes. It doesnt makes sense, can you understand my point? Well now i buy Epson or Hp paper only...but honestly this is the only brand i know who operates this way, i have friends who work in the field related to printing and they use other brands of paper with no problem. Well, it is what it is. Just wanted to let you know since you asked and have ben heplful, thanks again.
