Grew up in AEC buses but really like the trucks as well, particularly the Mammoth Major four axles.
    Really stellar photo selection.

Lovely lorries, all of them, they all look like they did a hard day's graft, lovely to see them all again, gone but NEVER forgotten, keep on trucking 👍

Fantastic and one of my favourite wagons .As a kid I spent all of my school holidays in an AEC Mercury as my dad drove for Parker’s Transport of Bolton ( Yellow with Black writing) this was general haulage and we went to Newcastle and Scotland with steel tube and even as for as Southampton with Barrs soft drinks . Many a time we used to pick up loads of toffees from a factory in Bury and again we would end up down south but as a special treat part of this run was also to collect half full jars of all kinds of toffees ( you can guess the rest ) I remember my dad being worried as he came home with a railway container on the back of a ridged which was full of Whisky with only a poxy lock of the rear doors . For extra security for the driver due to hi jacking they fitted a small 4” bolt to the drivers door ….Very happy days and don’t forget the tartan rug over the engine hump.

I remember seeing a bulk sugar A E C tanker at Silvertown refinery, 1950 s. Amongst all the Fodens ,quite a surprise. My Father told me it was used for Shuttle duty between Plaistow and Silvertown. Also another flatbed was used for delivery of sacks of sugar. Dad always said that the best job was the London Docklands deliveries. But he was long distance 100%.Many thanks for helping me remember this time spent seeing all these historic moments.

Brings back memories of school holidays and trips to The Golden Arrow Transport Cafe at Froxfield. Then back along the A 4 to London, noting all the British lorries along the way.

@@williamcarrington61 Spot on William and I can remember one trip clutching a note pad like a train spotter and I was disappointed to note that most of the wagons encountered where Bedfords …Boring but true

hi there. i used to work for AEC ltd during the 70s, the ergomatic cab was the dish of the day except for army vehicles the 0870 and 0880, Wimpey had the fixed mk5 cab for its 6x4 chassis, the LD55 tipper with inverted windscreen was made at Thornycrofts at that time, and sold by scottish land developmentas far as i can remember, during the 70s the standard engines were the av505 and av760,, the av 506 was developed in 78 but was not much good
