    how good do you want to be, I started riding fairly late in life, I bought my first motorcycle at age 46, since then probably put on about 15000 miles, mostly city riding, I thought I was pretty good because I never laid my bikes down, after seeing my first Jerry P video, I almost laid it down 15 secs into the first exercise, after binge watching a ton of his videos, I realized I'm a noob, I try to practice his exercises a little bit everyday and I'm a way better rider than I was 2 months ago, thank you Jerry.

I’m riding again after a 11 year hiatus and these videos alone are very informative and I’m sure your instructional DVD’s are a great tool for someone like me. I’ve been riding for a year and a half now and been practicing your techniques for about a year.I always practice slow speed maneuvering at least once or twice a week being that it’s a perishable skill if not used often I think.I always see riders dragging their feet and struggling with low speed maneuvers and encourage them to use these techniques and watch your videos.Like you say,riding is so much more fun when you know what the hell you’re doing! Thank you for real informative video's for not just new riders, but guys like me that have been on two wheels for over 40yrs. Luckily I grew up in the Country, and a farmer kid. Well there was only dirt bikes in the early 70's to ride so I learned balance in the off road. I am a firm believer that off road riding is a great way for street riders to learn many things you show in your videos. I have raced MX, Enduro, and even dabbled in Trials Bikes over the years. Hopping the bike in a circle without taking your feet off the pegs...that's a learning curve..hahaha! My street bike a Boulevard S83 has a VERY grabby clutch and it is hydraulic also. It makes shifting down for corners dangerous and I rev match the engine to do it safely..It is like an on off switch. I read that it is a common issue. I imagine and am going to test some different clutch springs this season to make it better...Thanks again...new sub.

    Motorman, your videos are amazing. I'm loving your DVD (The New Ride Like A Pro), but your CZcams videos are always entertaining and informative, too. I tell everybody about them. It's amazing how many people, when I start to talk about problems in the parking lot (in other words, low-speed maneuvering) start to nod and say, "Me, too!" I've turned a few people on to your videos, hopefully they get the DVDs.
    I'm certainly not among the "top 2% of riders" yet--can't do a 24-foot circle, but I can manage a 28-foot--but I'm certainly improving. Thanks so much for these!

    Wish i watched these videos before my MSF course last week . I never rode a motorcycle before it and passed but the figure 8's in blue box were tough for me . We had 1 Instructor for 2.5 day course for 8 of us , not sure if that's usual SOP ? I guess he did his best with lots of info being given to us in a short period of time. Instructor never mentioned using just rear brake and friction zone during figure 8 and other slow speed maneuvers but maybe he didn't know. I bet i would have done much better if i used this technique. Will be getting DVD soon . Thanks Motorman

    Funny, over here we learn NEVER to use tge clutch on slow speed turns and manouvring but to use a constantly engaged rear brake and use the throttle to adjust the speed while keeping the rear brake on. This is even an actual exam item, special manouvring.
    I always used the clutch, not the rear brake and everyone says i'm crazy....now this video proves i'm not! hahaha!

    Can you expand a bit on throttle control? On video it sounds like you're revving the engine intermittently instead of maintaining a constant throttle input? Yes? Or are my ears deceiving me?

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  Před 6 lety +10

      You can do either. What ever works better for you. What you don't want to do is be at idle, and put pressure on the rear brake. Doing that, will cause the bike to stall and down you go.

  • @rebeloski530
    @rebeloski530 Před 3 lety

    This is what they teach the police, and you do need to learn good clutch and brake control, but if you do this regularly, you will also be replacing your clutch plates regularly.

    • @motorman857
      @motorman857  Před 3 lety +2

      I do this regularly and I've never burned a clutch. Now, if you're a doofus and rev your motor to 4 or 5 thousand RPM's and stand on the rear brake, you'll burn the clutch, but that's the least of doofus's problems.

      @@danstrausbaugh6430 This is the answer I give to riders that ask me about riding the clutch from my FAQ area on my website: No, as long as you give your bike a "breeze out" after every 5 or 10 minutes of practicing. That is, ride around the parking lot, get your bike into 2nd or 3rd gear and breeze out the engine, staying off the rear brake and clutch, giving them a chance to cool down. Keep your revs low, around 1200 to 1500 rpms and you will be fine.
