It has been 8 years since we walked these streets, and we were moved by how much it feels like an afternoon in Europe on a summer city break. This time we get to revisit some old memorable places but with our little daughter Story Ember, & Grandma Phwah Phwah with us too.

As a local I take Intramuros for granted. What a surprise to see the improvements and how pedestrian and tourist friendly it is now. That Batala Cafe seems like a great find indeed.
I like the old world charm of that side of Manila. It really feels like Europe❤️
The only original in Intramuros is the 3km walls and San Agustin church ,The rest was left in Ruins in World War II Feb 1945 when Americans bomabared it to flush out the Japanese stronghold, All you see is Reconstructed started in 1979.

The oldest spanish era the San Agustin Church is located in General Luna St, Manila, Metro Manila built in 1571.
While there in Manila, you should have a trip to 'Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar' in Bataan. It is very beautiful there. They have their own hotel too. Take advantage of it while you're there.
The flowers everywhere are so pretty, hanging them upside down is such a pretty aesthetic atmosphere. I love seeing how others live.

If you have never been to fort santiago, you can also visit, its inside intramuros.
You guys should really go to Vigan to see a more Spanish-colonial setting.

You might want to check out Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, its a heritage resort in Bataan where you can see old heritage homes being preserved and converted into hotel rooms..

The other side is San Augustine church. The first cafe that you have been, the opposite side is the Manila Cathedral.
Other places like this in the Philippines are also Rizal Park (some historical areas), UST (University of Santo Tomas), Vigan, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar (in Bataan & Quezon City), Zamboanga, Bulacan and old Gapan (the mini tourist area with old style houses). I think Binondo also counts but apart from the churches most buildings there were from the American occupation era. It gives you an idea that back then the Spanish inspired cities in the country all had their specific style depending on region and time period.

Our country have a lots of history that I haven't known...a tour of Intramuros is a must and ride in a Kalesa, a horse driven cart.

think it's busy there on a Monday because it is surrounded by universities and one of those universities is my alma mater, PLM. 😁 😁 😁
The Universities are not the historic resident of Intramuros, they only emerge after WWII when Friars sold ruined propperty, Only Letran college is organic

Oh my gosh! i never expexted Intramuros now looks like you are Europe. I studied at Colegio de San de Letran in Intramuros before. The oldest College in the Philippines established in 1633 if im not mistsken.
The oldest university would be the University of San Carlos established in the year 1595 followed by University of Sto. Tomas established in the year 1611.

By the way, much of old Manila was destryed during the Battle for Manila in 1945. It was the most devastated city after Warsaw. More than 100,000 civilians died there - at the hands of retreating maniacal Japanese, and by US artillery fire. And yes, the British - your ancestors - breached the walls of Intramuros in the 1760s. They stayed there for three years.😊

While you're in Manila, you should see Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. They have the main spot in Bataan, but they have a small version in Quezon City, very close to where you are staying now. Just a Grab away. 😊

Intramuros is spanish town before and very beautiful but it was totally devastated during world war2, only few structured is intact,but the ist lady marcos want to restored it in 1980 but sad to said people power came, and the rest is history,

Before the Japanese invaded, bombed and destroyed our beautiful country, the Philippines before WWII was the "Pearl of the orient" and the "Paris of the East". It was so European that the national language was Spanish and all the infrastructures were modelled after Spanish infrastructures. ❤
