    Thank you and god bless you for doing an amazing job on this educational video. i managed to cleanand restore my spinfisher reel by myself for the first time. I made a mistake though where i wanted to clean out the parts from grease and dirt by using a solvent and inadvertently dunked the rubber seal in the solvent for a while with the rotor and ruined the security things that keep it attached. it seems to work fine for now but i will be ordering a replacement. those rubber seal holder, as you said, are pretty vulnerable and are not to touch.

      Thanks for watching, Steve! I get where you coming from. It can be intimidating if you've never done it before... but I believe you can do it if you take your time and follow the video. What's the worst that can happen? You take it to your local repair shop and ask them to reassemble it if you get stuck. And, if you successfully do it, now you're able to care for your reel without relying on someone else... if you choose. 🙂

    I can see why the Stradics cost more, they are more complex internally, I have many of both, I don’t know if there is much need for the complexity of the Stradics. The Penns are great reels in their own right.

      Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts. I think of the two different companies this way (although it's not necessarily true)... one has positioned themself to be the working man's reel (Penn) and the other seems to position themself as the Lamborghini of the industry (Shimano). They're both excellent products from each company.

    If water cant get in , than maybe it could be filed with oil ?I think i will try baby oil so it doesent hurt the seals. And they shuld use a wet drag system , maybe I can convert it .the drag washers are getting crazy expensive , ive had to do a ton of maintaince on the old ss7500 drags with king fish , i sand down or lap the metal washers cuz they warp from all heat .

    In your video the spindle bearing came out with little effort. I am working on a Penn SSVI4500LL. I tried installing the nut on the spindle, placing the nut in a vice and pulling with force. The bearing will not move. How can this stuck bearing be removed? The rod and reel was found on the beach under about a foot of sand. And the inside of the body was a mix of sand and black grease.

    Hello, out of curiosity how often should you do a deep service like this on the reel?
    Also just wanted your opinion, I recently brought in my 8500 spin-fisher to get serviced, just maintenance wise since i heard its good to get it done every season. Apparently one of the screws was so corroded that he had to drill it to get the screw out. Has that happened to you? Also looks like he tried to pry it open with a flat head as there is a noticeable gap in between where the plates come together on the reel body. I just find it strange because he left a note saying that there was a lot of sand in the reel...but now with a hole in the reel body and the gap in the plates wouldn't that create more issues for me now?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  Před rokem

      Thanks for checking out the video.... probably every one to two years depending on usage.
      Yes, I've snapped screws.... tapping and re-drilling holes, so I take preliminary steps to minimize that happening.
      Yes, the gap could be an issue, so you could see if he can rebend it to fit better or how much a replacement side cover would be.

      @@TSGReelService Hello i have taken the time to reexam the reel twice more and i must say i still find it difficult to diagnose if there are any other problems with the bail system, is there a chance that i may for your help ? maybe i can send you a couple of pictures ? I have decided already that the rotor, part number 27 needs to be changed and i am willing to order it, but since ordering a part will probably take about a month or two (I live in Morocco) i want to be right on order all the parts that i may need. What happened was embarassing, there is a fishing spot that's like a rocky plateau and i wanted to save a lure that's been stuck to some mussels at the edge of the cliff below me, by lowering down the rod from its upper section and hitting at the lure with base of the rod to unstuck it, there was a wave coming towards me so in a panic i wanted to bring up the rod which was lowered down and accidentally impacted the bail holder on the rocks, i hope i have a painted the picture of what happened.

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  Před rokem

      Morocco.... nice! Make about a 1 to 2 minute video of your reel going through its paces. Slowly crank it through 3 or 4 oscillations, slowly rotate the reel so I can see the rotor and bail, etc. What you described does not sound like there should be an issue with the rotor, unless you SLAMMED it against the rocks. These posts disappear for me, so the sooner you post the video, the better. Thanks.
