I am a diy'r myself and have invested heavily into bigger machines to make a job easier. Would highly recommend a 20"-24" planer with helical head on it for producing a very smooth surface finish on slabs for mantles. Very little sanding needed.

I have always used a cup brush on a angle grinder. That’s what I found to work the best.

What was the oil you used? Could not catch the name. Great job and video!

Hello and thank you for the compliment. The oil is Odie's oil. They have a clear and some with color. This one is clear.

How dry was the wood before you started? Green-ish or kiln dry?

What type of wood is that ? Cedar ??

  • @ChristinaFlesner-iq6bp

    Why isn’t it red inside?

it has a reddish color. But cedar can tend to turn darker after it is cut. This slab had been cut well before the video. And some cedar is just less red than others.
