- I went out to Shinjuku to enjoy a bit of night life, but first things first, a retro game hunt. Shinjuku isn't probably the first place that comes to mind when you think of game hunting, but the Surugaya, Book Off and arcades are pretty sweet.

Made me realise just how long it’s been since I was in Tokyo now 😭
Hopefully it's not going anywhere anytime soon, so you'll be able to drop by again sometime.
I'm seriously considering moving the family there after how things have been here in the states I think it would be a wise move

@@jd-py5nm Yeah USA is exhausting at this point. Moving to Japan and getting allowance is extremely hard, however. Hell, getting a bank account there is beyond complicated.

God damn, your videos are still so great. I actually watch walking tours of cities as well as game related stuff, so seeing the mix of the two is awesome. Wow, crazy selection of games! Never heard of that Darius game... Awesome. Keep up the amazing work!

That Surugaya in Shinjuku is probably my favorite store to shop in all of Japan. I've spent hours in there.

It was indeed. They had a lot of quality titles. I didn't even show the inside of the glass case, they had some especially nice games in there but also astronomically expensive.

It's a damn fine game. Great gameplay, visuals, and sound.
Game at 11:39 is actually getting an official english localization release this year under the name "River City Girls Zero"

Thanks Jim for making me visit Japan again, seeing my favorite store in Shinjuku is so nostalgic, I spent hours in that store browsing trough everything.
To think I found this store by chance, I was exploring Shinjuku and found the Marui building and as I was reading the stores it had, I saw Surugaya, I got back with some great loot :)
On another note I think Surugaya is the store where you can find the most US version of games, last time I was there I saw Killer Instincts SNES and Rise of the Robots.
Oddly enough, I've been seeing more and more NTSC games popping up as of late, especially at Super Potato. They have a case full at this point.

I got Darius Extra for the Genesis from Strictly Limited. Waited over a year for it to finally ship. Awesome game, though. It's a beautiful port of the original arcade game with some bonus content. It originally released on the Genesis Mini console that came out a couple years back, but had never actually seen a cart release before.

heh used to go to that surugaya on the way from work couple of times a week, scored a brand new towns marty for cheap! maybe we rubbed shoulders a couple of times :D

before the video proper even starts, yknow I think I need to replay policenauts! (I have junkerhq's english saturn translation on my computer or the PSX one on my classic, so one way or the other I might pick it up again.) definitely hoping to get back into SFC collecting in 2022! someday I do wanna import a saturn and collect some of the Japanese exclusive stuff!

Haven't heard that in awhile 👍😉 that's so Kool how in Japan there's no employees watching you and you can actually look and go through the games without them being behind glass or having anti theft devices on the games unlike in the USA, people steal everything. Honor system is great 👍. Something the USA will never have. Especially the no security cameras everywhere in the store. There's like a 100 surveillance cameras in every store like this in USA..
When did that Surugaya open in the Annex? I remember going in there in 2016 to look for the Seria but I never saw Surugaya in there.

It's the main theme from Policenauts, which Kojima directed before moving on to MGS.

I presume with no foreign tourists in the Akiba and Shinjuku areas in the last 2 years. It's not as crowded and busy ??? I mean those two places have always been super busy and crowded; foreign tourists or not.
It's not the lack of tourists really, it's the numbers of people electing to stay home. Still gets plenty crowded out here though.

Silkworm was released on a number of computer systems but the only console port was the NES in the US. It's successor, SWIV, was released for the SNES and Mega Drive and Gameboy.
