No kidding!!! I'll *never* say no to listening to Floor sing this. Her version is gorgeous too. But in MY mind Tarja still *owns* this one, hands down. (Edit) You should watch the 2005 version of the music video. Nightwish in medieval costumes. The reason the audience in this performance went crazy when Tarja came out was the she was wearing the same dress from the video.
This was her last concert with Nightwish. All of us love Floor..BUT ...I think you must know and understand something...Tarja and Tuomas made Nightwish what it is.... they were pionners of the genre...
Yes they were all those things. The first time I heard Nightwish was 'End Of An Era' at Hartwall Areena in 2005 or 2006-can't remember which. Tarja's voice was an absolutely otherworldly operatic masterpiece of every song she sang. She will always be my first love in Symphonic Metal. But there is no equal of Floor's beautiful, delicate, Contralto-Soprano, massively powerful, softly tear-jerking vocals. She has no equal in Symphonic Metal, not even her closest friend Simone Simons. I love Floor Jansen dearly(no disrespect to Hannes van Dahl)but I am twice her age, and I'm sure she could wreak havoc on my old body if I said the wrong thing. lol
@TheRealRedAce 01 lol their biggest hits are all Tarja Era songs. Tuomas's best work has either been with Tarja or when he was writing about her. Tuomas would have created an acoustic folk style band if not for Tarja. So yes Symphonic Metal was founded on Tarja's voice

NW's most critically acclaimed works tend to come from their older albums and their diss tracks on Tarja., I personally don't care for his later work. When you start needing you use television theme songs like GoT for the basis of your top new work. it's not a great show of originality. But that's just me. I'm glad you enjoy it.
Tarja, for longtime fans, was the voice that introduced many of us to Nightwish and made us fall in love with this band. As others have already said, the performance is from 2005 but the song was from their 1998 album 'Oceanborn'. Its truly stunning :) The Tarja era of Nightwish (which is their first 5 albums) is packed with stunning gems that you wont find if you only listen to the Floor era. Anette is worth checking out, absolutely! The problem is that she gets unfairly dismissed by many fans for various reasons, but she is as much a part of Nightwish's history as Tarja and Floor, and many of the fans favourite songs are Anette-era songs like Storytime! There are some incredible deep-cut songs from the Anette era like The heart asks pleasure first and Escapist that you should check out; my favourite Anette album is Imaginaerum which is amazing! The Tarja era you can pick from any of the first 5 albums, and the From Wishes to eternity show in 2000 and End of an era (This show you've just watched from 2005).
@raspberry- ripple88 I discovered Nightwish (with Floor) less than two years ago, but have since delved extensively into their entire back catalogue and totally agree with everything you said. I love all three vocalists and will always have a soft spot for Anette who made those two amazing albums with NW. Much as I adore Floor's version of Sleeping Sun, for me this one belongs to Tarja.

I also love the Anette albums and what she brought to the band and their sound. Ive always hated the tribalism within the Nightwish fanbase, so im always happy to see and hear people enjoy the entire back catalogue and the whole history :)

I love Floor because she has such a visceral power when she sings, I love Anette for how playful and soulful she is, and I love Tarja because the only way I can describe the feeling she brings to music is pure *magic.* Hearing her sing this song literally always brings me to tears. For more Tarja-era Nightwish, there are a few I think will always remain “her” songs, at least for me, besides Sleeping Sun: Ever Dream, Bless the Child, Forever Yours (most of the Century Child album tbh), and Nemo. BUT I think it’s always worth reminding people that this was Tarja over 15 years ago, and she’s had an illustrious solo career since that shows off just how much more powerful and versatile she’s become since Nightwish days. There’s actually an amazing folk cover of Sleeping Sun that she did with Steve N Seagulls back in 2019 that’s just SO fun and unexpectedly wonderful. Also from her solo career I recommend Diva, Until My Last Breath, Crimson Deep, and Supremacy. As for Anette, there sadly aren’t many live performances with good recordings, but she’s great on both studio albums! I especially recommend Amaranth, Slow Love Slow, Cadence of Her Last Breath, and Eva. I’ve heard her demo version of Nemo is also pretty good!
I think you just started to see that if you can step away from your singer obsession, in this case Floor, you begin to see that Nightwish is more than just one singer.Because Nightwish is more than one member, with the exception of Tuomas but even he needs his friends to make his magic complete.And the singer here was Tarja.Her voice is the reason for Nightwish's sound.Her voice started it all, Nightwish's Symphonic Metal. Tarja's operatic runs at 6:33 are just impossibly beautiful. She's like a fallen snow angel on a mountain with her voice echoing around the cliff faces 😢
I love Floor to bits too, but there are songs that are such TARJA songs that no matter how well Anette or Floor does it, it's not the same. This song is one of those. And Over the Hills and Far away are TARJA songs all the way.
2012? or 2014 there is a live duet where Floor guest spots for that song with Tarja and her band. te only down side is sound quality suffersas each singer asks for her OWN mic levels to be lowered to make the other's more prominent. a battle of who can be most humble I guess. which goes to show the true nature of these divas,
@Dio I can't really agree with that. She had a limited range of vocal styles (one) and expressed little feeling in her singing. I also found the audible gasping annoying (poor breath control).

The original MV for this song with baby Tarja with short red hair is gorgeous and interesting to listen to that version and this one back to back to see how Tarja changed her vocals over just five or six years. For more Tarja, I’d say do either ‘The Siren’ or ‘Pharaoh Sails to Orion’ live from End of an Era and From Wishes to Eternity, respectively.

I've been a Nightwish fan for a very long time (since Oceanborn) so I don't have a favourite singer, I love them all. Each band member was perfect at that time, but I'm glad they got Floor in the end. Tuomas has completed the demos for the next album, played them to the rest of the band, and the studio is booked for next year.
The only Nightwish song with Anette that I truly like is 'Scaretale'. It's so much fun to listen to and Anette's voice is perfect for that kind of song. Marko is also perfect as usual 👌🏻
If you want to listen all nightwish songs I would advise you to take a listen to "Beauty of the Beast", another 10 minutes masterpiece by Tuomas with the voice of Tarja. There is a live but the studio is really good as well.
This was the 2005 Helsinki concert, same show as the High Hopes and Phantom of the Opera videos you watched. Released as a non album single in 1999 for the solar eclipse. '222 days of light' , it was 222 days from the first of the year to the eclipse on Aug 11. Their second album, Oceanborn, was reissued later that year with this song added. It's a pre-Marko song, Sami Vanska was the bassist on the studio version. Try Wishmaster from this show for Tarja on a non ballad Nightwish song. For Anette, the music video for Amaranth or Bye Bye Beautiful are good to start with. Not many good live with her.
I always find it amusing when people suggest Bye Bye Beautiful as a song for Annette - she plays backup to Marko, who is the real power vocal in that song. And in the video, she looks like a frump compared to the band stand-ins....

Floor owns my heart and she is definitely the greatest metal singer I have ever heard, however, my passion for this band started many years ago listening to Century Child album in the beautiful voice of Tarja Turunen. Nightwish always wonderful! 🤘

I was a big fan of Nightwish back in the early 2000s and this song was always my favorite back then. I went to their concert when I was 14. That was my first real concert experience, really. So this brings back memories. Thanks for the awesome reaction.
Who's the better vocalist? That will never be answered because it's a matter of opinion. But there is one solid fact. These phenomenal songs were all written by Tuomas.
Nightwish decided to make this the official live version, from 2005 with Tarja. There are quality live versions with Floor out there, including Tampere 2015, Masters of Rock 2016, and the live in a Virtual World 2021. My recommendation for next Nightwish Song “7 Days to the Wolves “ from Wembley 2015.
The Floor version is also quite good, but for me this song esprcially is just a Tarja song, she has just more "magic" in it. Same here. This is one of two songs that I still think Tarja beats Floor at (the other one for me is Nemo). Maybe it's just because Tarja did the original versions but then, that is not entirely true because Floor STOLE GLS...and a few other songs, too. lol

This was the very last show with Tarja. She was told after the show that Nightwish was moving on without her. This song was written to celebrate the European eclipse of the sun in 1999. One of the few ballad style songs from Nightwish. Tarja was and is an amazing vocalist. Mostly operatic and less metal and aggression. Annette is also a very good vocalist. She is great in the studio and select live songs. However, she was not able to perform the Tarja songs very well. much less breath control and not able to sing operatic or with the amazing range of Tarja & Floor. This is 2005 "End of an Era" concert which is one of the greatest ever. At this time in 2005 they had the most common line-up which made the whole band great and big in the world so later the substitutes and replacements to these guys had an easy ride to continue after pioneer work and defining the concept was done and example given. If you are a NIGHTWISH fan - you should know the history and the fact that Tarja did the first five albums with them which is still more than the later coming female vocalists have done all together. Marco is here and Jukka too... Tuomas and Emppu still continue from this group both being also the founding members like Tarja the third. Yes - they are all great and done so awesome ride since 1996. Check also the very old baby videos...1993 -> they are funny. Tuomas collected the group in a small town of Kitee (Mr. Plamen Dimov was their music teacher) and his original idea was to make mood music acoustic and camp fire songs...for instance Emppu plays acoustic guitar. So You have plenty of material to go with Nightwish - just pls. keep doing it while you are on the run !
I am a real Floor Fan. Ich hear Nightwish since 2001. 2003 i was on my First Concert, there with Tarja and this Song ist one of the Songs where i say sorry Floor but this is a Tarja Song, Floor sing this Song too and it's very good, but not so good as this one. 95% of Nightwish Songs i Love more with Floor this one need the Voice of Tarja.
This is great performance from Tarja. Next from her I would recommend live Slaying the dreamer from this same concert End of an Era. As for Anette, I have no idea what are good live performances. I do like her studio work though. So as for that I'd recommend Amaranth and The Crow, the Owl and the Dove.

As much as I love Floor, and I believe she is likely the galaxy's g.o.a.t frontwoman, Tarja is like a first love that never fades. And this is one of the three songs that got me into Nightwish back in the day along with Nemo and Ever Dream. Some other great ones from this show (End of an Era) that I think you haven't seen yet is Wishmaster and Walking in the Air. Definitely check those out sometime. 🤘

Live recordings were not her strong suite, but she was great in the studio, and I have a hard time imagining anyone doing the song, Meadows of Heaven as well as she did that one! As I said, no live video for it, but there are several fan made videos that are very well done! Cheers!
Planet Hell is a song that all three singers did very well. It might be fun to see what each vocalist brought to the song. The metal bands "what's app group" is the festival circuit. They're there for hours, plenty of opportunity to get to know people.
It is such a beautiful song, and no one - not even Floor - does it as well as Tarja. Just to be clear, there are songs Floor does better (Ghost Love Score for example). They're both awesome (no disrespect to Anette, but...)
I don’t understand why Floor fans begrudge the few reactions the other two singers get. I love all of them and I love the variety. Maybe people who love Tarja and Annette would like a little respect. Maybe it would be great if reactors didn’t have to apologise when they don’t listen to Floor.
It's called "insecurity". The other vocalists, as good as they may be in their own right, always fall in the shadow of Tarja's legacy, and the neo-nightwish fans just hate this with a passion.

I'm still perplexed how the vocalist isn't drowned out by the instrumentation... I know this isn't the hardest song ever, but imagine having such a strong vocalist on board that you can write the songs exactly how you want them to sound without having to make space for the vocalist??? This is what is so incredible with Tarja and Floor. These two powerhouses just don't drown... Annette didn't have that power and you can hear the songs be more conventional on her albums. Tuomas made it work of course, but it wasn't as special.
No, this is what is incredile with Nightwish is Toumas! Yes the very members,all of them were chosen by Toumas to fit into his musical puzzled Life. He writes with assistance and arranges the songs the way he envisions them to be performed,Nightwish is his project,his band and theTarja', Anettes' and Floors' are there as vocalists to serve his purpose and that I believe resides inside Toumas' head.
Tarja (pronounce it Tarya) was the original Nightwish lead singer until they broke up in 2005. When Nightwish's very first album came ou in 1996 they were the first to incorporate classical vocals in Metal and Tarja was the very first classical-trained singer to be in a metal band. Later came Floor, Simone and a bunch of other but Tarja was the one who paved the way. Tuomas hired her in 1996 'cause he knew about her a few years ago but he didn't knew she had developped that opera-style singing style. At this point, when it all started, Tuomas was planning on making nightwish a small folk band from Kitee (Finland) but when he heard Tarja's voice it became clear to him that her voice was too big for what he had in mind so he decided to make it a Symphonic Metal band. So, without Tarja, Nightwish would be barely known about outside Kitee but because she led Tuomas to go for something bigger than what he had in mind people from alla round the world get to know, listen and enjoy Nightwish. I'm a huge Floor fan, i've been supporting her since she was in After Forever but I will always be thankfull towards Tarja for being the reason Nightwiish adopted that style. I think the epic performance of Ghost love score from this same concert now called end of an ersa, is equally impressive then or now but quite different yet from each other. the whoke story was really quite the drama and handled badly. the infamous letter and reactions are on the site if you want to see it. Fact is they were n their mid twenties and Thomas and tarja were in high school together in the 1990s. Also her mother was piano teacher to them both. also fyi Tarja's birthday is Wednesday the 17th. She'll be 45. younger than Floor and her other good friend Sharon Den Adele ( Netherlands) and lead singer of Within Temptation. Total opposite to Tarja who has had training at a musical academy, Sharon is 100% self taught. There is an official video and live duet of What about Us by Within Temptation with Tarja as guest star. Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful are perfectly good Anette songs. The music videos that is, not many great Anette live videos exist (Planet Hell rehearsal is pretty good though).
I prefer Floor in most of the Nightwish songs she has sung, but there are couple of Tarja era songs that I prefer listen to Tarja and Sleeping Sun is one of those. Her singing style fits so well with this song and this was also the first Nightwish song I heard.

I too have a Floor fixation, but appreciation of Nightwish really does require appreciation of the ‘whole journey’. P, ie all three girls.Your reaction shows that you well on board with this view. Tarja was a fantastic piece of Nightwish, and Sleeping Sun Is definitely a ‘ Tarja’s Track’. Keep on with more Tarja, but also Anette. The whole of Imaginaerum I’m sure you will like, but could I recommend Scaretale for Anette’s ‘giggly evil’ rendition or Bye Bye beautiful for both Anette and Marko’ singing, but also Tuomas’ little joke in turning the whole band into beauties.

Needed to finish a tour when then lead singer Anette went into labour over xmas. Later was offered membership to the band. One ground rule that she will never sing bye bye beautiful. A dis track aimed at Tarja. Floor and , Tarja are friends to this very day Tarja has been busy as solo artist since 2007. You should react to Tarja's solo stuff, there you can hear her full vocal abilities and how amazing songwriter and composer she is. In her solo career she using also not classical or operatic vocal techniques and she has very dark and deep chest voice what you can't really hear in Nightwish.
First song i heard and fell in love with imediatelly. It also brings memories of group of friends who brought it to me. As much as i respect there is Floor now, she cant sing this, it is forever Tarja's, as people before me said already.
This was Tarja's (Pronounced "Tar-ya" BTW) last concert. The band asked her to leave just afterwards as the situation had become untenable due to her and her husband's attitude to the band. Still, she has her solo career now, though I'm not really a fan (I got her first album and only liked one song, though it's true I did like that one a LOT.

Also keep in mind that Floor and Tarja were friends before Floor joined NW and are good friends to this very day. they do love nd respect each other and the band has made apologies. they were all young save Marko then. they are civil and profesional in comunication if not warm. @@Boa_Omega Quite true, but here is plenty of evidence in the video of the last tour with Tarja and comments by both parties, especially Marcello, made afterwards that the split was as I say. Marko (the only band member Marcello didn't diss too much) has since performed with Tarja on stage. Floor has been friends with Tarja since before joining NW and also with Anette as well. I think Floor is more used to touring with "the boys" as she has had long experience of it from age 16 or so when she first fronted a band and also seems to have a more outgoing, if emotionally sensitive, personality (the latter detail probably helping her in her artistic expression as a singer). I have nothing against Tarja - as I say, I bought her first solo album, but apart from the first song, it wasn't what I expected from the hype and was not for me (I was particularly disappointed with the bland lacklustre rendition of Alice Cooper's "Poison"). And yes, the Finn's do roll their 'R's, so "Tarrrya".
I was at Aitoon Kirkastusjuhlat 2001 seeing their live for the second time (I think I saw them earlier a month prior or so at Rantarock) and I was standing at the side mid-way to front of house, as a 21y old me a head taller than the goth teenagers of the front row, when in middle of the song Tarja pointed at me and sang a line to me :) Although I'm an EDM producer I've been following their music ever since.
Nightwish fan since almost day 1 here. Whatever people will tell you: Nightwish always had top class vocalists. A lot of hate went towards Anette Olzon, and her vocal style was a serious departure from Tarja's, but she was and is great in her own way. My personal favourite Nightwish album is Imaginaerum from the Anette area. Only she couldn't reproduce the old Nightwish sound that had defined the band's original sound. Not her fault, thou. Floor sort of combines the skills of Tarja and Anette, and thus was the perfect choice when Anette left. I have and I always will appreciate all three ladies for their contribution to the band's sound. And we all know that Nightwish's best vocalists was Marco, anyway 😀🤘🏻.

Tarja just announced the continuation of her "Raw" tour. Her 2019 In the Raw album was fantastic. She's been very busy since the split with Nightwish and has almost 20 albums on Spotify from 2007 (a mix of original and live albums). We'll worth a visit.
Floor and Tarja are good friends and it shows in all of their interactions. It's really beautiful to watch. There's actually a video of them singing Over the Hills and Far Away together. Unfortunately, the audio in the video is pretty crappy, but you can see them enjoying each others' company and constantly communicating with the techie about Floor's mic to turn it up (Tarja) or turn it down (Floor), which seems like Tarja just wanted to blast her friend's vocals. I find it really sweet. There really shouldn't any animosity between Floor fans or Tarja fans (I understand all the sides of Anette fans/haters, I've been there). There's no beef to settle there. I also highly doubt that any of Nightwish's lead singers would encourage you to only listen/react to one of them. They all have diverse tastes in music and you don't get that by only ever listening to just one singer one band.
I highly recommend listening to Annette do Planet Hell. The official video is a live recording in the studio. Very cool to see them all enjoying playing.
Next Nightwish song? You just did one of the most beautiful ones... i think you should follow that with Nightwish's heaviest song. Master Passion Greed. You are not prepared....
When I was introduced to Nightwish, it was Tarja that I heard first and still love to this day. As it is, I love Tarja, Annette and Floor seeing as each of them contributed something special to Tuomas’ masterpieces. 🥰🥰
Great reaction as always 👍. For Annette go for 'Bye Bye Beautiful' and 'Amaranth'. I never buy in to these singer comparison arguments that go on - they're a little pointless and unnecessary - she was a little more 'poppy' and people prefer the above 2 music videos in general. As for other bands - I don't know who you've covered but I'll suggest 2 bands that will be touring together on equal billing (coming here to London in October) and they are 'Amaranthe' from Sweden and 'Beyond the Black' from Germany. No doubt, Floor is a great singer, but... this is Tarja! So many of the old Nightwish-Fans fell in love with the band because of her voice. It is a "love" that will last forever. I still enjoy Nightwish today, but I don't feel it anymore, like in the old days.

Yes they were all those things. The first time I heard Nightwish was 'End Of An Era' at Hartwall Areena in 2005 or 2006-can't remember which. Tarja's voice was an absolutely otherworldly operatic masterpiece of every song she sang. She will always be my first love in Symphonic Metal.
But there is no equal of Floor's beautiful, delicate, Contralto-Soprano, massively powerful, softly tear-jerking vocals. She has no equal in Symphonic Metal, not even her closest friend Simone Simons. I love Floor Jansen dearly(no disrespect to Hannes van Dahl)but I am twice her age, and I'm sure she could wreak havoc on my old body if I said the wrong thing. lol

Tarja, for longtime fans, was the voice that introduced many of us to Nightwish and made us fall in love with this band. As others have already said, the performance is from 2005 but the song was from their 1998 album 'Oceanborn'. Its truly stunning :) The Tarja era of Nightwish (which is their first 5 albums) is packed with stunning gems that you wont find if you only listen to the Floor era. Anette is worth checking out, absolutely! The problem is that she gets unfairly dismissed by many fans for various reasons, but she is as much a part of Nightwish's history as Tarja and Floor, and many of the fans favourite songs are Anette-era songs like Storytime! There are some incredible deep-cut songs from the Anette era like The heart asks pleasure first and Escapist that you should check out; my favourite Anette album is Imaginaerum which is amazing! The Tarja era you can pick from any of the first 5 albums, and the From Wishes to eternity show in 2000 and End of an era (This show you've just watched from 2005).
@raspberry- ripple88 I discovered Nightwish (with Floor) less than two years ago, but have since delved extensively into their entire back catalogue and totally agree with everything you said. I love all three vocalists and will always have a soft spot for Anette who made those two amazing albums with NW. Much as I adore Floor's version of Sleeping Sun, for me this one belongs to Tarja.

I love Floor because she has such a visceral power when she sings, I love Anette for how playful and soulful she is, and I love Tarja because the only way I can describe the feeling she brings to music is pure *magic.* Hearing her sing this song literally always brings me to tears.
For more Tarja-era Nightwish, there are a few I think will always remain “her” songs, at least for me, besides Sleeping Sun: Ever Dream, Bless the Child, Forever Yours (most of the Century Child album tbh), and Nemo.
BUT I think it’s always worth reminding people that this was Tarja over 15 years ago, and she’s had an illustrious solo career since that shows off just how much more powerful and versatile she’s become since Nightwish days. There’s actually an amazing folk cover of Sleeping Sun that she did with Steve N Seagulls back in 2019 that’s just SO fun and unexpectedly wonderful. Also from her solo career I recommend Diva, Until My Last Breath, Crimson Deep, and Supremacy.
As for Anette, there sadly aren’t many live performances with good recordings, but she’s great on both studio albums! I especially recommend Amaranth, Slow Love Slow, Cadence of Her Last Breath, and Eva. I’ve heard her demo version of Nemo is also pretty good!

I've been a Nightwish fan for a very long time (since Oceanborn) so I don't have a favourite singer, I love them all. Each band member was perfect at that time, but I'm glad they got Floor in the end. Tuomas has completed the demos for the next album, played them to the rest of the band, and the studio is booked for next year.
But aren't you concerned that they aren't going to tour it and are going on hiatus? That's ominous even if most of them have other projects.

If you want to listen all nightwish songs I would advise you to take a listen to "Beauty of the Beast", another 10 minutes masterpiece by Tuomas with the voice of Tarja. There is a live but the studio is really good as well.

This was the very last show with Tarja. She was told after the show that Nightwish was moving on without her. This song was written to celebrate the European eclipse of the sun in 1999. One of the few ballad style songs from Nightwish. Tarja was and is an amazing vocalist. Mostly operatic and less metal and aggression.
Annette is also a very good vocalist. She is great in the studio and select live songs. However, she was not able to perform the Tarja songs very well. much less breath control and not able to sing operatic or with the amazing range of Tarja & Floor.

This is 2005 "End of an Era" concert which is one of the greatest ever. At this time in 2005 they had the most common line-up which made the whole band great and big in the world so later the substitutes and replacements to these guys had an easy ride to continue after pioneer work and defining the concept was done and example given. If you are a NIGHTWISH fan - you should know the history and the fact that Tarja did the first five albums with them which is still more than the later coming female vocalists have done all together. Marco is here and Jukka too... Tuomas and Emppu still continue from this group both being also the founding members like Tarja the third. Yes - they are all great and done so awesome ride since 1996. Check also the very old baby videos...1993 -> they are funny. Tuomas collected the group in a small town of Kitee (Mr. Plamen Dimov was their music teacher) and his original idea was to make mood music acoustic and camp fire songs...for instance Emppu plays acoustic guitar. So You have plenty of material to go with Nightwish - just pls. keep doing it while you are on the run !
I am a real Floor Fan. Ich hear Nightwish since 2001. 2003 i was on my First Concert, there with Tarja and this Song ist one of the Songs where i say sorry Floor but this is a Tarja Song, Floor sing this Song too and it's very good, but not so good as this one. 95% of Nightwish Songs i Love more with Floor this one need the Voice of Tarja.
This is great performance from Tarja. Next from her I would recommend live Slaying the dreamer from this same concert End of an Era.
As for Anette, I have no idea what are good live performances. I do like her studio work though. So as for that I'd recommend Amaranth and The Crow, the Owl and the Dove.
I saw Annette live in 2008 at Lowlands. There is a good recording on YT. And Annette is sounding excellent.

As much as I love Floor, and I believe she is likely the galaxy's g.o.a.t frontwoman, Tarja is like a first love that never fades. And this is one of the three songs that got me into Nightwish back in the day along with Nemo and Ever Dream. Some other great ones from this show (End of an Era) that I think you haven't seen yet is Wishmaster and Walking in the Air. Definitely check those out sometime. 🤘

I see you have many recommendations for Tarja songs, so I'll give you one for Annete. Live recordings were not her strong suite, but she was great in the studio, and I have a hard time imagining anyone doing the song, Meadows of Heaven as well as she did that one! As I said, no live video for it, but there are several fan made videos that are very well done! Cheers!
Anette's greatest triumph is Eva, and she makes a fine job of it on the very few live videos.

It is such a beautiful song, and no one - not even Floor - does it as well as Tarja. Just to be clear, there are songs Floor does better (Ghost Love Score for example). They're both awesome (no disrespect to Anette, but...)
I don’t understand why Floor fans begrudge the few reactions the other two singers get. I love all of them and I love the variety. Maybe people who love Tarja and Annette would like a little respect. Maybe it would be great if reactors didn’t have to apologise when they don’t listen to Floor.
It's called "insecurity". The other vocalists, as good as they may be in their own right, always fall in the shadow of Tarja's legacy, and the neo-nightwish fans just hate this with a passion.

I'm still perplexed how the vocalist isn't drowned out by the instrumentation... I know this isn't the hardest song ever, but imagine having such a strong vocalist on board that you can write the songs exactly how you want them to sound without having to make space for the vocalist??? This is what is so incredible with Tarja and Floor. These two powerhouses just don't drown... Annette didn't have that power and you can hear the songs be more conventional on her albums. Tuomas made it work of course, but it wasn't as special.

No, this is what is incredile with Nightwish is Toumas! Yes the very members,all of them were chosen by Toumas to fit into his musical puzzled Life. He writes with assistance and arranges the songs the way he envisions them to be performed,Nightwish is his project,his band and theTarja', Anettes' and Floors' are there as vocalists to serve his purpose and that I believe resides inside Toumas' head.
Tarja (pronounce it Tarya) was the original Nightwish lead singer until they broke up in 2005. When Nightwish's very first album came ou in 1996 they were the first to incorporate classical vocals in Metal and Tarja was the very first classical-trained singer to be in a metal band. Later came Floor, Simone and a bunch of other but Tarja was the one who paved the way.
Tuomas hired her in 1996 'cause he knew about her a few years ago but he didn't knew she had developped that opera-style singing style. At this point, when it all started, Tuomas was planning on making nightwish a small folk band from Kitee (Finland) but when he heard Tarja's voice it became clear to him that her voice was too big for what he had in mind so he decided to make it a Symphonic Metal band. So, without Tarja, Nightwish would be barely known about outside Kitee but because she led Tuomas to go for something bigger than what he had in mind people from alla round the world get to know, listen and enjoy Nightwish.
I'm a huge Floor fan, i've been supporting her since she was in After Forever but I will always be thankfull towards Tarja for being the reason Nightwiish adopted that style. And for her outstanding talent too.

I think the epic performance of Ghost love score from this same concert now called end of an ersa, is equally impressive then or now but quite different yet from each other. the whoke story was really quite the drama and handled badly. the infamous letter and reactions are on the site if you want to see it. Fact is they were n their mid twenties and Thomas and tarja were in high school together in the 1990s. Also her mother was piano teacher to them both. also fyi Tarja's birthday is Wednesday the 17th. She'll be 45. younger than Floor and her other good friend Sharon Den Adele ( Netherlands) and lead singer of Within Temptation. Total opposite to Tarja who has had training at a musical academy, Sharon is 100% self taught.

Also Tarja has been working on a project called outlanders since 2014. She has teamed up to work with some of the gratest muscians on the planet to produce an album. singles being released and the videos were filmed in Antigua in the Bahamas.
Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful are perfectly good Anette songs. The music videos that is, not many great Anette live videos exist (Planet Hell rehearsal is pretty good though).
The 2nd one a horrible attack on Tarja that Floor made quite clear as a condition to joining the band, that she would never sing!

I prefer Floor in most of the Nightwish songs she has sung, but there are couple of Tarja era songs that I prefer listen to Tarja and Sleeping Sun is one of those. Her singing style fits so well with this song and this was also the first Nightwish song I heard.

I too have a Floor fixation, but appreciation of Nightwish really does require appreciation of the ‘whole journey’. P, ie all three girls.Your reaction shows that you well on board with this view. Tarja was a fantastic piece of Nightwish, and Sleeping Sun Is definitely a ‘ Tarja’s Track’. Keep on with more Tarja, but also Anette. The whole of Imaginaerum I’m sure you will like, but could I recommend Scaretale for Anette’s ‘giggly evil’ rendition or Bye Bye beautiful for both Anette and Marko’ singing, but also Tuomas’ little joke in turning the whole band into beauties.

October 21, 2005. Last night of the ONCE upon a tour supporting their 5th Album. Helsinki Finland. Hartwell arena, 11, 500 in attendance. Tarja ( tarr-yee-aa)) last night with the band. They knew. She didn't. Kittos is Finnish for thank you. Good manners very very important to the culture.
Floor BTW is Dutch. Already sang in 2 bands before joining in 2010 as a guest. Needed to finish a tour when then lead singer Anette went into labour over xmas. Later was offered membership to the band.
One ground rule that she will never sing bye bye beautiful. A dis track aimed at Tarja. Floor and , Tarja are friends to this very day
Tarja has been busy as solo artist since 2007.

You should react to Tarja's solo stuff, there you can hear her full vocal abilities and how amazing songwriter and composer she is. In her solo career she using also not classical or operatic vocal techniques and she has very dark and deep chest voice what you can't really hear in Nightwish.
First song i heard and fell in love with imediatelly. It also brings memories of group of friends who brought it to me. As much as i respect there is Floor now, she cant sing this, it is forever Tarja's, as people before me said already.
This was Tarja's (Pronounced "Tar-ya" BTW) last concert. The band asked her to leave just afterwards as the situation had become untenable due to her and her husband's attitude to the band.
Still, she has her solo career now, though I'm not really a fan (I got her first album and only liked one song, though it's true I did like that one a LOT.

And as always there are 3 sides to every story. yours. mine and the truth. the band were not at their best in how they treated her then. She may not have been the best at actually knowing how to talk to them to understand their concerns and making hers known. then there are rumours of jelousy over Tarja marrying Marcello. Tarja has only grown as an artist and her library of music in so many styles speaks volumes. Also keep in mind that Floor and Tarja were friends before Floor joined NW and are good friends to this very day. they do love nd respect each other and the band has made apologies. they were all young save Marko then. they are civil and profesional in comunication if not warm. But you are free to love anyting you want and ignore anythin you like. Its not a competition. NW is still going strong drawing crowds selling music. So is Tarja. great news all around,
@@Boa_Omega Quite true, but here is plenty of evidence in the video of the last tour with Tarja and comments by both parties, especially Marcello, made afterwards that the split was as I say. Marko (the only band member Marcello didn't diss too much) has since performed with Tarja on stage. Floor has been friends with Tarja since before joining NW and also with Anette as well. I think Floor is more used to touring with "the boys" as she has had long experience of it from age 16 or so when she first fronted a band and also seems to have a more outgoing, if emotionally sensitive, personality (the latter detail probably helping her in her artistic expression as a singer).
I have nothing against Tarja - as I say, I bought her first solo album, but apart from the first song, it wasn't what I expected from the hype and was not for me (I was particularly disappointed with the bland lacklustre rendition of Alice Cooper's "Poison").
And yes, the Finn's do roll their 'R's, so "Tarrrya".
2005 - 2006... I actually prefer the music video version of this over the live, from WAY back in 1996.

I was at Aitoon Kirkastusjuhlat 2001 seeing their live for the second time (I think I saw them earlier a month prior or so at Rantarock) and I was standing at the side mid-way to front of house, as a 21y old me a head taller than the goth teenagers of the front row, when in middle of the song Tarja pointed at me and sang a line to me :) Although I'm an EDM producer I've been following their music ever since.
Nightwish fan since almost day 1 here. Whatever people will tell you: Nightwish always had top class vocalists. A lot of hate went towards Anette Olzon, and her vocal style was a serious departure from Tarja's, but she was and is great in her own way. My personal favourite Nightwish album is Imaginaerum from the Anette area. Only she couldn't reproduce the old Nightwish sound that had defined the band's original sound. Not her fault, thou. Floor sort of combines the skills of Tarja and Anette, and thus was the perfect choice when Anette left. I have and I always will appreciate all three ladies for their contribution to the band's sound. And we all know that Nightwish's best vocalists was Marco, anyway 😀🤘🏻.

Tarja just announced the continuation of her "Raw" tour. Her 2019 In the Raw album was fantastic. She's been very busy since the split with Nightwish and has almost 20 albums on Spotify from 2007 (a mix of original and live albums). We'll worth a visit.
Floor and Tarja are good friends and it shows in all of their interactions. It's really beautiful to watch. There's actually a video of them singing Over the Hills and Far Away together. Unfortunately, the audio in the video is pretty crappy, but you can see them enjoying each others' company and constantly communicating with the techie about Floor's mic to turn it up (Tarja) or turn it down (Floor), which seems like Tarja just wanted to blast her friend's vocals. I find it really sweet.
There really shouldn't any animosity between Floor fans or Tarja fans (I understand all the sides of Anette fans/haters, I've been there). There's no beef to settle there.
I also highly doubt that any of Nightwish's lead singers would encourage you to only listen/react to one of them. They all have diverse tastes in music and you don't get that by only ever listening to just one singer one band.
I highly recommend listening to Annette do Planet Hell. The official video is a live recording in the studio. Very cool to see them all enjoying playing.

I got into Nightwish in the 90s when Tarja was the lead singer, but I much prefer Floors version of this.

When I was introduced to Nightwish, it was Tarja that I heard first and still love to this day. As it is, I love Tarja, Annette and Floor seeing as each of them contributed something special to Tuomas’ masterpieces. 🥰🥰

I never buy in to these singer comparison arguments that go on - they're a little pointless and unnecessary - she was a little more 'poppy' and people prefer the above 2 music videos in general. As for other bands - I don't know who you've covered but I'll suggest 2 bands that will be touring together on equal billing (coming here to London in October) and they are 'Amaranthe' from Sweden and 'Beyond the Black' from Germany. No doubt, Floor is a great singer, but... this is Tarja! So many of the old Nightwish-Fans fell in love with the band because of her voice. It is a "love" that will last forever. I still enjoy Nightwish today, but I don't feel it anymore, like in the old days.
