I don't think you can hit on safety enough I live in the middle of 500.000 acres of the allegheny national forest. I got out of high school in 1977 I have had many friends that were loggers some have died from widowmakers 1 friend had a skidder roll over on him 20 years ago a buddy was 3 weeks from retiring and a widowmaker got him he had 40 plus years as a logger I am a firewood guy not a logger. I have just touched on a few I know others that are crippled for life thats logging in Mckean county Pennsylvania. Its does seen the accident have come down in the last 10 years. Stay safe out there and keep the videos coming
It’s no fun if you’re not able to walk away from it. Glad you’re enjoying the channel. Stay Safe!
Another beautiful cut. Glad to hear that you always assess each job and make safety a priority!
Health is the first wealth.
Thanks for sharing another beautiful walnut felling. Thank you for talking about safety. Seen some excellent fellers tragicly injured or ended. Many years ago knew one that dropped a tree into another tree(years b4 that). When they pulled the tree out it broke a limb off that stayed in the standing tree. He was back in the same woods years later felled all day. End of the day walking out that limb somehow fell out of the tree(from years b4) and crushed the guy. It CANNOT be stressed enough on safety and awareness of the dangers hanging above ones head out there. Keep the great videos coming man!
Thank you! I agree on looking up!
Thank you kindly for this video were logging 70 big walnuts
Good deal, be safe and enjoy it.
Another well laid tree on the ground, thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome, I’m glad ya like it.
I do agree with you Sir, that SAFTY IS FIRST! I am into cutting Logs for Firewood, for my Stove Stove. Helmet, Heavy Gloves, Chaps, and Steel Toed Boots. I do hope your Buddies are going to be alright. I do agree with you that you can beat the 63gauge Chain RS, (Rapid Super) I have used them for Years. Now you Safe My Friend, and I will also. I do get up on them to cut them (LOGS). My Wife has a Fit, but Trusts me enough to do it. Cell Phone in Hand. Fairly good Size like 20inches up. Stay Safe out there Buddy and you Have a Friend here for Life with your Videos. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY. PS- BIG SNOW COMING!
Thank you Ron
I hope your New Year is off to a good start!

Awesome, glad to have ya!
Another great video !! Many valid points both good and bad…..FANtastic technique! Thanks 🪵⛓🪚👍👏🇺🇸 Rick
Hey, thank you! Have a great weekend!
Great job in that, ive had logger friends killed and injured badly because of not looking up or not paying close enough attention to things, when you tired its easy to get complacent ive done it before and had close calls but thankfully i was blessed without being hurt bad.
I’m in the same camp.
Wow that couldn’t have come down more gently. Was able to roll perfectly instead of splitting.
Yes sir!
You use a few techniques I’ve never used - great to still learn after all my years lol. Speaking of my longevity, I’ve known a number of loggers who are no longer living or who’ve been retired by a mishap. “Reading the tree” prior to cutting is the most important part of cutting; then gauging your surrounding environment is next. In essence, I spent more time in the pre-cut phase than in actually cutting. Keeping an eye on the kerf and eying the top during cutting can save a life. One guy doing a tabletop never looked up at the top until it was too late and the tree popped free faster than he expected and caught him before he could bail. Great video once again. I’m curious, are you harvesting any tops for your firewood?
We harvest a few tops on the right jobs. I pretty much only get white oak and cherry for the fire wood. I completely agree on the time spent planning before cutting.
Nice work, and great commentary. It's important to remind event the senior cutters to plan and know what to expect. Plan B is always necessary. I agree with the chaps idea, I have a few of them but don't use them because I seem to have them become more danger then save. They seem to catch on everything and make me stumble. I do wear well fitting clothes so that I don't have loose clothing try to get involved with the inherent dangers of being in the woods with a saw etc.
I agree with everything you said.
Great thing to mention takin ur time very important to remember on any tree but especillay on veener❤
Yes sir, slow and steady wins.
When bucking a big top like that, I always like to use a wedges. I think I can predict the way the tree will move, letting me get out of the way. Good reminders for safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Precautions save lives, to many people complain about little safety violations and overlook the major hazards.
My dads cousin was killed logging.summertime cutting oak in brown county indiana. A vine broke a dead limb in a tree uphill behind him.he never saw it coming..i worked a job with him he was an excellent cutter.he was late 40s. It was a sad ordeal.he lived a block away from us.😢
That’s a real bummer. Sorry for your loss.
Nice job feller!
Thank you!
You always make it look easy
Thank you for the kind words!
Nice clean work. Black gold there! I learn something from you every video. It really hurt to hear about Pete. They have a go fund me for anyone interested. I’m self-employed and extremely active. Pete was the same. An experienced cutter. It’s dangerous even when you are safe. I’m curious to hear what happened. It least he’s alive. Jed Walters was a shock to the tree service community on YT.
I’m glad ya like the video. Yeah, it’s a real shame about Jed and Pete for sure.
This is a dangerous business for sure, a logger a couple towns over from me was air lifted last week.
For those interested, go fund me keeps a portion of your donation. Cottontop3 posted a video and included Pete's address so we can mail a check directly to Lauren. That way they get full benefit from our donations.
Really nice tree I heard about Pete getting hurt pretty bad was really bad to hear that stay safe
Yes that’s a real bummer. I don’t know him but he seams like a great guy. I know another feller who was air lifted last week as well. It’s a good reminder to me to take my time and not get in a hurry.
@@Good.Fellers I watched him on CZcams for several years
Me too. I always liked him, hopefully he makes a quick and full recovery.
Is this nut319 you’re talking about. I’m just curious because I watch him on CZcams too.
@rogergill4607 Yes, him and another fella I know was air lifted last week. I feel for both of them.
Great content 👊🏻 ❤
Thank you sir!
what happens to he remainder of the tree which isnt suitable for veneer or lumber? is it left ot cut for firewood, or...?
Most is left some made into firewood.
well done
Thank you!!!
We are always hardest on ourselves. That being said I would check the bar adjustment screw for being bent
I don’t understand this comment?
@@Good.Fellers Okay your bar adjustment is a screw that tightens your chain and bar, did that help?
I’m not sure why we’re talking about it.
@@Good.Fellers you pinched your bar in that oak bro, then yanked on your power saw. It's worth looking at...
@justinstclair5707 I see.
I view chaps as optional for experienced operators and recommended for those learning to use a chainsaw. What drives me crazy is seeing the guys that cut timber with nothing but a ball cap on their heads. To me a helmet is nonnegotiable. Thanks for the videos you make. They are entertaining as well as educational.
I personally wear a helmet and think it’s pretty intelligent to wear ear and eye protection. But I also think Every man can make his own decisions as long as he’s paying his way. Now an employee should follow bosses orders in my opinion.
I have a question for you what do you think of the 572 with a 50 gauge chain that's what I use to cut and it seems to do okay
It’s great just a bit light on torque for my application.
Trying to learn the market ..sometimes get clearing jobs ..you said the only veneer log was the first 10 ft.??? What was wrong with the rest of that spar???
Trees have different grades of logs based off the defects on the log. The first 10 feet of that tree made a veneer grade and the rest was lumber grade.
It was definitely cut, right
Glad you liked it.
Yes sucks replaceing spring mounts snd antivibes.my buddy does that in the bucket .😂frustrating
Yeah not a fan of that.
Dude what's that flannel
What do u mean ?
The shirt man I wanna get one lol. And great cut man. Keep up the videos
@trevor9671 it’s Ll bean wool jacket.
Them river bank trees always are dirty to cut.
There worth the extra filing for what they pay.
@@Good.Fellers yes they are for sure. Nice job fella.
@rugerfarming5387 thank you!
