    I love all the "just be in pain for two weeks *flex* arrrrrrgggghhhh" comments. I dunno about you but when I have a headache I take a headache tablet, when my back is in pain I go to massage therapist, and when I buy new leather shoes I pre-break them in. Life has enough suffering in it already. I'm a crusty 48 year old and I don't need to bother with more pain than I've got! So thanks for this new way of doing it for me.

    I was born in the same year Dr Martens were invented (1960) and I've had many pairs. To make them truly 'yours' you simply have to go through a couple of weeks discomfort after which they become as comfortable as slippers. There are no shortcuts or easy fixes. My latest 'For Life' pair arrived yesterday and I'm going through the 'discomfort' (pain) period right now. It will pass. Don't bash your DM's.

    I just did this yesterday BEFORE finding this video. I was a lot more hardcore with the hammer though, lol. Luckily Dr. Martens are freggin durable AF. I also used the shoe laces to bind the boot folded in half to really wear in that uncomfortable toe area. Worked like a charm....however they do end up looking more worn in...that's not something that bothers me though. Thank you for the video. Some of us want to "earn" our boots without crying after every wear. :)

    Does anyone know quick tips for breaking in the patent leather Doc boots?sorta stiff,but still not as awful feeling as thicker leather boots to break in.Thnx to anyone who knows,and gives me answers ;)

    • @thefuumanchuu
      @thefuumanchuu Před 3 lety

      Thick socks. Unfortunately with the patent leather you can't break them down by this method because it'll ruin the patent finish. However if you double sock, it'll protect your feet and ankles a little better while you suffer through the break in process!

    • @thefuumanchuu
      @thefuumanchuu Před 6 lety +1

      +Thomas from Denmark thank you! I came up with this method because trying to wear them in was taking too long and I used to do ballet. There are various ways to break in pointe shoes, including stepping on them, bending them, putting a lot of force on them, so I figured a hammer is easier than me trying to break them in by hand since these are boots, not ballet shoes. :)

    • @ThomasfromDenmark1
      @ThomasfromDenmark1 Před 6 lety +1

      thefuumanchuu
      I see. Maybe I won't do the hammer, but twist and press them with my hands. Maybe heat them up with a hairdryer?
      Why is it important to block out the shoes with paper or towel, before you begin?
      Thank you for the answer.

    • @thefuumanchuu
      @thefuumanchuu Před 6 lety +1

      +Thomas from Denmark you can totally use your hands and a hairdryer. I just used a hammer and my radiator instead 😅 I stuff the shoes tightly first so that as the leather softens with heat, the pressure of the towel inside the shoe will stretch it a little bit. also, stuffing the shoe helps (i think) keep the shape of it while I'm hitting it with a hammer. But whenever I am looking to stretch shoes and don't have a shoe stretching apparatus, I always stuff them.

    • @ThomasfromDenmark1
      @ThomasfromDenmark1 Před 6 lety

      I greased them in, used a heat gun, and just twisted those things everywhich way possible, with al my might.
      I worked like a charm - the boots are totally comfortable!

      you can also wet the leather from the inside a bit. this will make the leather softer and then you can widen or transform it as you want. but be careful with drying and dry them slowly (maybe with some old paper)

    • @thefuumanchuu
      @thefuumanchuu Před 7 lety +1

      alternatively you can wet the newspaper and pack the heel of the boot tightly and leave to dry in a warm place to stretch it a little bit. I would also suggest wearing boot socks and using blister band aids on your heels as well.

    At least you got the right size for your feet. I feel like so many people get their boots two sizes too small. Typically the break in pain is around the top of the foot and around the heel, but I've heard of people saying their toes are cramped and hurting. That shouldn't be happening >~
