Spherical Nucleic Acids are an example of nano-biotechnology because they are a delivery system that integrates biomaterials with a nanomaterial surface for targeted gene therapy, which can correct a mutated gene that can cause a disease. They are also soluble and stable in saline solutions and protect biomaterials from natural enzymes that would normally break them down, making them a remarkable innovation in modern medicine.
This video was produced by the Micro Nano Technology Education Center (MNT-EC) in collaboration with UC San Diego and Omni Nano in an effort to support STEM education and spread awareness. A special thank you to Jason Barquero for his work on the voiceover. MNT-EC is funded by the National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education program - grant number 2000281.
