    Mr Adair, I heard your name mentioned related to the Affordaplane and I'm so thankful for these videos. This is my year to build! I think that I've settled on the Affordaplane. Once I get underway I wonder if you would mind the occasional question? Anyways I really enjoy and appreciate your content.

    I just found your videos and love them. I would take a stripped down q tip and coat all of the quick connect electrical connectors with dielectric grease (I coat all electrical connectors with it). Just to prevent corrosion in the future. They will all be getting hot/cold/warm during regular use, which will cause some condensation, more of course on the wires that draw more current.

    Terry, I would suggest fender washers on your motor mount rubbers. You can get them at Orscheln Farm and Home Supply or Westlakes Hardware. If you want aircraft grade try Wick's or Aircraft Spruce. They need to almost completely cover the rubber damper. You have done a great job, it really looks good.

    Very sanitary build? You may want to run your wire inside of a wire jacket to protect them from vibration. It may be wise to rethink the way the wires are connected to the various components as they could vibrate off.

    Hi Terry
    I’m a new subscriber to your channel. I’m really impressed with how good your plan looks.Im really torn as to which plane I will purchase . I’ve been giving a lot of thought to a Kolbe firefly but after looking a the different Affordaplane builds on Utube I have a close competitor to consider. I agree with your engine choice as I would rather have more power than just enough.

  • @Darklightbeam
    @Darklightbeam Před 5 lety +2

    Hi Terry, I would suggest with the foot pedals you might like to put a bar across to take the pressure of your heels. In some situations I have seen foot rest holes in the floor just infront of the pedals. With vibrations thru the floor your feet could get displaced. With the fuel pump, I would suggest you have a vacuum version connected to the engine crankcase, and then also use an electric version for take-off additional power. You should be able to check the air vent to the fuel tank. Should show a positive open and closed position. hope this helps. great to see another affordaplane getting up to spec. I have a Flying Flea Bifly tandem wing, similar spec. G-POUX
    All the best Gpx.

    Beautiful build amigo!! I am currently building an Affordaplane (likely to use a Rotax 503 DCDI,but?)...I am a retired Airline A&P,I.A. and love dinking around with this stuff. You are likely aware of the FAA ,USDOT publication AC 43-13-1b and AC43-13-2b...if not, they can be purchased on ebay for $10-15. MONEY WELL SPENT, if you are not an A&P. It encompasses inspection,repair,and alterations of certified aircraft. Kind of a "bible" on what to do. love the sidestick(which is what I will use as well) My biggest deviation will be ZERO electrics except for that which is required for engine operations. Your "mock-up" phase is going great. I will not be going for the seat-side throttle, but instead will opt for a frictionlock ,left-side dash mount. less distance,less weight,and one less thing to screw-up when I slide my fat carcass in!! Where did you get your wing attach bracketts? what kind are they?.....great build....bob

    Did you rig up a carb(s) heater? I remember your engine cutout video mentioning possible carb icing at 1700 ft elevation? Seems too low for icing, but your more familiar with your area. Houston is near sea level and humid, right?
    I'm in AZ at 4633' elevation, probably quite a bit higher than Houston, TX down near the Gulf of Mexico or some body of water. Love your videos, trying to get my own place and build my affordaplane, have plans, will utilize your store and aircraft spruce, got a catalog. Your store is online only?
    Your engine out landing looked a little scary and it sure beat up your landing gear, but a tree collision would a been much worse. Thanks for your videos, Terry, John Bell from Sierra Vista AZ.

    Thread lock, lock washers, and nynuts (military's nylon locking nut) on the prop mounting bolts are fine, with a minimum of three threads showing above the nuts, but SAFETY WIRE THE BOLT HEADS! You will not be sorry.

    I would say if you have to ask there to small lol. but no. To error on the side of caution I would go to home depot or lows and get some washers that are close to the size of the rubber bushing but that's just me, you can do what you want. Good luck. 🙂

    Hey thanks for posting. Can you please tell us more about the EFIS app you're planning on using and on what device? I'm taking lessons in an Aeronca Chanp. I tried out Aircraft Cockpit on a Galaxy S5. It seems the vibration confused the gyros which made the slip ball and the artificial horizon go bonkers. The compass, altimeter, VSI and Ground speed indicator worked well though. THANKS

  • @XSspeeds
    @XSspeeds Před 6 lety +2

    Nice build. Where is the safety wire though? I've built race bikes for years and safety wire is a must, would think it's even more important on an airplane.
    The washers on the the grommets should be large enough to not pass through the hole the grommet is set in. I would consider that a safety concern during a crash so the engine can not pull off the mount.
    I would use circuit breakers instead of fuses. Then you could at least reset it in hopes it was just a spike that tripped it.
    As far as the wiring goes, a good tight mechanical connection is best. That means, a quality set of crimpers and connectors without those plastic covers. (they look so tacky too) They don't let you inspect your crimp. Shrink tubing should be used instead to cover after you are happy with the crimp, and it should be long enough to support the wire to connection joint. Failure usually happen at the point where there is no insulation on the wire at the connection. Due to movement and vibration. Solder can be used but keep it from whicking up the wire much. If it goes up the wire it creates another point that can break. Keep the solder well within the length of shrink tubing and it should be good.
    Best of luck with it.

    At 4:52 in the video, you show some plastic spacers in the fuselage. Just wondering where you got those. Also, any info on the spring steel for the tailwheel would be appreciated. Thanks for the videos. PS Just give the cats some toys and they'll stay off the plane, lol.
