    You can poke a hole in the can and insert the point of large scissors to accomplish the cuts. Use scissors you don't care about ruining.
    I'm so excited to do this! This is exactly the advice I needed.

    Awesome build! Right around when you started drawing the fill slit, I asked myself... hmmm wonder if hes going to put a wick in it lol, then you answered my question :-) For those reading, your gonna want a decent seal because the fumes will leak out over time and fluid evaporates, if you decide to douse the flame and use it again later. Not to mention fumes coming out of other areas of a burner could also ignite, if not cause a flash from built up fumes. Not a problem if you place it in a safe area. Thank you for a great and informative video! I was wondering if you could shape your own burner for the Gel bio ethanol, because the gel fuel makes the popping noise of a real fireplace.

      @gill2837 Před rokem +2

      How can you make the seal? I'd be concerned about the fumes. If I douse it to use later, and have a bit of metal just placed on top is that enough to stop the fumes or could they still sneak out if it's not actually 'sealed' tight?

    • @Silverado1st
      @Silverado1st Před rokem +1

      @@gill2837 As tight as you get it, a minor amount will always leak out but the fluid will keep for a while in the wick material. Wont leak enough to be hazardous, but still keep heat, sparks and flame a good distance to be safe. Best just to let the flame completely burn out. As long as the plate is on, chances are it wont ignite. My plate warped because I used it to hold the flames down and I had to reheat it back into shape. Cheep metal was used and to thin. But yes the plate will hold enough of the vapor back. Hope that helps.

      @@gill2837 Oh your talking about the home made burner. I was talking about the one I bought. This one you'd have to let burn out completely unless your good at metallurgy and engineering to build a dousing tool/cover.

      @@Silverado1st Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I am just obsessed with these lately. I smoke...now apart from giving them up which I will but that's another topic altogether... do you think it's safe for me to sit there at my lovely cosy fire, watching TV and light a cigarette? lol strange question it may be but of course I can't find the answer on google no matter how I word it. Just don't want to blow myself up watching the real housewives of beverly hills or the likes.

      @@gill2837 Hey Gill. Welcome, more than happy to help when and if I can. Good luck with quitting, I quit after 24 years, but because I switched to vaping, soooo much cheaper and healthier, I save 2400 a year after quitting. I like these ethanol burners too. Crazy but I have 1 propane fire pit and 3 small lpg burners and a bio-fuel fireplace and two small tabletop ones lol. As long as the burner is in a fireproof container, ventilated room and doesn't leak, I wouldn't worry about smoking over 4 or 5 feet away from it. If you can smell the fumes, turn on a fan or open a window. If it does ignite, it won't be dangerous as long as its in a safe space. Nah its a good question, safety is top priority. Plus if its burning already, smoking near it wont bother anything. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby or baking soda or damp towels. Never pour water on an ethanol fire. Its good to be cautious and prepared, bio-ethanol is extremely dangerous if you don't know what expect. Research helps and just start off slow and small amounts of fluid till you feel more comfortable. Most of all wait a good 7-10 minutes before refilling a burner after it burns out, even home made ones. In my case it would be re-runs of star trek lol

      @topoftheday2u173  Před rokem +1

      Ya the rag will burn. You can use a fiberglass sheet instead. This size should burn for man hours if filled. I recommend only have arout a quarter inch on the wick out to minimize burning.
