Voor mij duidelijk: Earth & Fire is de aller-, allerbeste band uit de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse pop- en rockmuziek. Ben geboren in 1960. Earth & Fire was mijn eerste muzikale liefde, heerlijk weemoedige muziek, maakte me gelukkig en nu nog. En dan Jerney! Ik als ontluikende jongen was meteen verliefd op haar. Wat een prachtige tijd, besefte ik achteraf pas. Komt nooit meer terug........
Wie was er niet verliefd? En dan die heerlijke gitaarsolo op Maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight.... Ik wilde niks liever dan ook gitaar leren spelen.

I wish to address the music industry, both past and present, about the importance of recognizing and promoting genuine, independent talent. Earth & Fire, a Dutch rock and pop band, is a prime example of such talent that could have achieved global fame. Their song "Storm and Thunder" was a source of inspiration for King Crimson's "Starless and Bible Black", which gained more global recognition, leading many to believe it was an original piece. While it was indeed an original work, it was undeniably influenced by Earth and Fire's song, a fact that has not been sufficiently discussed or acknowledged.
Earth & Fire was a band that had the potential for worldwide recognition. Their first eight singles were almost uninterrupted top-5 hits in the Netherlands from 1970 to 1974. They also charted in continental Europe, particularly in Belgium and Germany. However, they never gained significant popularity in the United Kingdom or the United States. Their biggest hit was "Weekend" (1979), a number one disco track in the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, and Switzerland. This is a testament to their potential for international success.
It's regrettable that this didn't happen, and the blame lies squarely on the record labels and the entertainment industry. History has shown that they were wrong not to push this wonderful band into the limelight, as they did with other, often more generic, artists. When I introduce people to Earth & Fire's music, they are immediately captivated, and these are people from outside the Netherlands. So, to those in the industry who overlooked this band, I have a Dutch saying for you: "scratch yourselves behind the ears". Once you understand the meaning of this phrase, you might regret not giving Earth & Fire the chance they deserved.

Ik weet niet of in de biografie van Earth&Fire hier iets over staat. Wel staat er dat ze halverwege de jaren 70 ineens geen publiek meer hadden,dat de mensen die naar hun concerten gingen kinderen kregen en niet meer kwamen. Dat was een antwoord op de vraag waarom ze toen zo overstapten op commercoiele muziek. Jerney reageerde ook met dat hun muziek altijd al commercieel was.
I 110% agree with you. I posted a comment already, but to let you know, I am a 32 year old Canadian who just stumbled upon this wonder of a band. I am floored and stunned that I’ve never heard of them before. Their sound is so unique, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite like them before, and am in love. They most certainly could have been bigger had they been pushed in the right direction. They could come out now, and be big still! But yeah, my favorite music has always been from Sweden, but these folks from Nederland are opening me up to a new world of music.

Dit was het allereerste singeltje wat ik ooit kocht! Bij de V&D te Dordrecht. In die tijd mochten we bij muziekles op school een single meenemen en die werd dan gedraaid. Hard in de klas. Iedereen was onder de indruk en ik genoot! Altijd ben ik ze blijven volgen, ook toen ze mindere tijden beleefden. Dank gebroeders Koerts, en de rest en last but not least Jerney! Wat een caracter was je al die jaren. Thanks!

The most underrated BAND from the 70's.In early seventies they recorded a special program in Poland for TVP.

Heb ze heel veel live gezien .Was mijn favorietste band en nog steeds.Was lid van de fanclub en heb nog een foto van mij en Jerney samen op de fanclubdag gemaakt in een studio.
Ik heb alle fanclub bladen nog en een fotoboek .Mooie tijd toen.
Wow, leuk om te lezen, bouwjaar 1959 hier en vanaf het begin groot liefhebber en ook veel optredens bezocht in al die jaren, heb al de lp's/cd's en sta 2 keer vermeld in de biografie. Leuk! Als je een keer wil mailen let me know, groet van Robert uit Amsterdam..

Awesome Dutch band ! Thanks to Radio Veronica we in the UK were able to hear music that Radio One wasn't interested in. So sorry to hear that Jerney is now suffering from Parkinson's. Sometimes life sucks, but we have the memories still.

In 1971 18 jaar oud werkte ik bij een grammofoonplaten zaak zoals toen nog heette. Jerney kwam deze plaat signeren en ik en mijn collegas onder de indruk, een beetje verliefd. En de muziek klinkt nog steeds goed.

In deze tijd was ik nog een baby, ik kende Earth & Fire alleen maar van Weekend e.d., wat ik overigens een heel leuk nummer vond en vind. Maar wat een wereld gaat er nu voor me open zeg met deze oudere nummers! Fantastisch, ze maken 40 jaar later nog een fan. En deze clip vind ik prima hoor, grappig, ik weet bijna zeker dat ik een paar jaar na hen ook weleens met veel plezier van deze zandheuvels ben gerold.

Ik ben van bouwjaar 1958 en als puber groot geworden met o.a. Earth&Fire en Shocking Blue. Fantastische muziek, draai het nog geregeld en met de beelden erbij (Jerney ;-) ) word het alleen nog maar beter!

First time I heard of this band was when they played this song, probably in 1971, on the Swedish radio. Since then I´ve been a fan of this band. I also started paying more attention to Dutch bands in general, and that made my life very rich, because I like good music!

Fantastic song. Captures the lyrics in the song perfectly. Starts as a fantasy then bursts into full blown, high spirited, exciting reality
There were lots of good dutch bands in the late 60s and early 70s, one of witch was Earth & Fire, a favourite band of mine for all times. First time I heard this song was when aired on Swedish radio, then my taped song, later a vinyl and now plexihout's posting. NICE!

Should have been much bigger in the UK but Radio One studiously ignored them. But to those in the know they were the best Dutch band of the era. Love to Jerney from a dedicated UK fan.

Kon de tijd van toen even af en toe terug komen. De ongedwongen hits die gevoelens los maken met inhoud. Earth and Fire een veelzijdige band met J.Kaagman die wel wist hoe ze het publiek kon beroeren. Aparte stem de onmisbare schakel.
Je doet me denken aan Level 42, maar ik weet niet waarom...
@plexihout Dat ben ik dus helemaal met je eens. Ik kan me dit nog heel goed herinneren, ik was een jaar of 10/11. En ik vond Earth and Fire helemaal geweldig toen. Ik kon nog amper een woord Engels, maar zong het helemaal mee.
