Hi Roy, I believe the German town through which Edith Stein was walking that day was Frankfurt. She went into the cathedral and saw the woman in prayer. I had the privilege of visiting the Cathedral myself some years ago and thought of Edith. She's my heroine and protector.
While grown up in a Protestant religion, I was surprised how many people didn’t know Jesus was Jewish. I saw the Christian Reform Church in our small community and thought Christians are so happy dispute the bad things that happen. I knew my unhappiness was me leaving God. God never leaves us. As an infant I had been baptized Orthodox and found the Greek Orthodox Church when I knew I was void of a spiritual understanding. Eventually I married a cradle Catholic and we both converted to Orthodoxy.
THANK YOU, we are blessed to hear you. Catholics don't evangelize enough anymore, in part, bc the Church no longer emphasizes it. in fact, it is de-emphasized w ecumenicism being the current buzz word. taking its place. I had to turn to Traditional Catholicism to hear this emphasis along with many other truths you share. PS - You don't ramble; we are hanging on your words.
Obviously Bro. Roy was ill prepared BUT the Spirit of the Lord pushed words on his lips to share this beautiful talk. Thank you brother Roy. Catholics really loves their Jewish brothers. Love from thr Philippines. Godbless you always!
I grew up as a Christian learning about Jesus as my Savior, and I always thought Israel must be in Heaven because Jesus was born there. I have always respected the Jews because of my Savior Jesus Christ as a Jew.
Thank you! I’m a naturally happy person . My life for most part has been very tragic and hard. But my faith keeps me going. The Holy Trinity the Blessed Virgin Mary. People ask me often how do you manage to be happy all the time. I feel how some people make fun of me like you did with your roommate. Now I understand those people. I will pray for them to have what I have had all my life. Which has been not perfect glamorous life but faith.
I have always loved Jewish people throughout my life. They have the love of God in them more than any other get people. I am only catholic but would like also what they have.
The long problem with the Catholic Church was that too its too many members not only were not aware of something the Church has in comparison to others denominations, main problem was and still is that many Catholics don't really have a personal relationship with God, they are just members of the institution.
Great explanation of the Jew/gentile Church! Also, I have read many times the book "Conversion of Ratisbonne," and after ruminating on it, the idea came to me that if HIS conversion was so spectacular, his BROTHER'S conversion must at least be AS amazing ... and I was RIGHT! Our Lord led me to the book, "A Nineteenth Century Miracle" no author, but translated by Leggatt, w intro by Fr.Bede Jarrett. Thrilling!
Re: suffering. One of the interesting things to me is that the angels in heaven cannot grasp the meaning of suffering because they have never suffered. It is part of the mystery of our humanity, that we are allowed to suffer... and through it, to participate in Christ's own act of atonement. The cross is the only way into the embrace of God. God who says... I desire your good more than my own. I will die, so that you may live. It is only through the cross (ie suffering) that we are able to reflect his own image... and through it, our spirit is able, through grace, to rise above our weak flesh, making an act of love that most resembles the self-sacrificial Love that is God's very essence. An embrace, which is eternal life... where God says "I am yours, and you are mine." and we respond "I am yours, and you are mine"... can only happen when both parties are willing to put the good of the other before themselves... are willing to die to their own selfishness. God is always for the good of the other... but we have to die to our selfishness... to become *for* the other. It is the dilemma of our flesh being at war with our spirit... and suffering is caused by our flesh and it's incessant demands for consolation, comfort, pleasure, etc. And our spirit suffers out of it's desire for the Love that God is... it suffers through isolation, abandonment, loneliness, etc which are the antithesis of the life of heaven. rambling... but the point I am trying to make is... suffering, ie the cross, is the only way into the embrace of God because it makes us resemble him. I will die so that you may live... is the only posture that makes an embrace possible. And God is Eternal Life... Uncreated, Being itself... and eternal Life for us... means to be united with Him, through Love's self-sacrificial embrace.
This seems like a great explanation on the meaning of suffering. I'm wondering where or how you got your understanding of suffering as the Catholic Church teaches. Was is from a book you read or Pope John Paul II etc?
@@capecodder04 Hi @Born Again Catholic. Good question. I'm not really sure I can pinpoint a particular source other than growing in my faith, experiencing suffering. I'm getting close to a 30 year journey where I have been so I've learned things along the way but most importantly, Christ has been transforming my heart. It's been my experience that as God leads us to a more definitive 'choice for Love' (which goes against self), if we have the courage to make the choice, by grace alone, then our heart is transformed to be more Christ like and then we can begin to understand Him better because we have begun resembling Him, by grace. We don't have to go looking for suffering. Suffering will find us. As God chooses and allows us to participate in the cross. We are all Simeon, carrying a small portion behind Christ. To make the choice for love, when it comes to us, we must be willing to remain under the foot of the cross with the Mother of God, the women, and St. John the Beloved. We must find the courage to suffer along with Christ. God is never outdone in generosity... and those who are generous in being willing to remain with Christ, God does bless superabundantly. Naturally, we all abhor the cross... if we didn't, it would be called ice cream. God says in the psalms re: the final things... gather to me all who have made covenant with me by sacrifice... I am paraphrasing cause I'm too lazy to look it up... but the cross is the only way into the Divine Embrace, which is eternal life. I haven't read Theology of the Body yet... though a priest from Ghana just grabbed it off my bookshelf and took it as a "gift" lol. So maybe I will pick up a new copy and actually read it!
