I do like how the animation of Scylla has Odysseus letting Eurylochus hold one of the torches after he admits to being the one who opened the wind bag. It's like he's saying "You got most of the fleet killed? Then you can die next."
Why he was the one who got the fleet killed? Wasn't it because they hurt the cyclops and poseidon found them at that time?
@@sada-hoshi4331, my logic is probably wrong but to me, if eurylochus didn't open the bag, they wouldn't have ended up getting blown to Poseidon
When listening I immediately wondered “oh crap is he gonna try and give Eurylochus to Scylla?!”…Honestly don’t blame him. Eurylochus is kind of a massive hypocrite.
@@Soupdippedinbread-jt9gqtrue, they probably would have got home just before Poseidon showed up, so they’d still have an angry god to deal with but better on land than a rickety boat lol

Im pretty sure had they landed home, Poseidon would have flooded Ithaca.
As one of the Sun Gods’s cows, i can definitely say we were pissed off
On another note would the sun cows’ milk be magical
Are you all enjoying Epic the Moosical?
Lowkey, Odysseus put a whole lot of faith of Zeus actually dropping that thunder cuase i was actually scared that the crew would strike odysseys down for a second there-
I mean Zeus did say he was the judgement call so you can’t blame Odysseus
I also think at that moment he didnt care. Probably felt he deserved it
Yeah his mental was probably in shambles sacrificing his crew and he was starving with a stab wound during a 12 year long journey with his crew not listening to him.
@@robertmartens9072 he would relief that moment for the rest of his live i know
If an all powerful god tells you to choose I’m pretty sure you know he will either keep his word or kill u himself no in between
ngl what i love most about thunder bringer, aside from the obvious, is one thing. The Siren's Song DID effect Odysseus in a very small way. when making his choice, him or his crew, "Penelope" comes in to sing "I will take the suffering from you"
It's not meant to be the Siren Song taking effect, but it has that same feeling, as that WASNT his wife saying that. That was just a facade tempting him towards death, and considering we see in the animatic that Odysseus joins his crew in the water-
its just good symbolism :) like the siren song DID work just not for the siren. It worked for Odysseus and gave him that last push to keep moving.
For the CHANCE to see his wife in the flesh, and not just some illusion.
Off topic but i dont think anyone else noticed. Odyseus wasnt just buying time in suffering he was also testing the sirens morals. "Nah you wouldnt have spared me." Everytime the siren demanded odyseus join her in the water odyseus kept up the act to "buy time" but also to see if the siren would give up and spare odyseus instead of insisting he come in the water but the siren failed his hopes and he decided to be cruel towards them
You guys are good at finding Easter eggs
@@villalsI doubt it since his crew was rounding the others up anyway. He knew what the sirens wanted and would do to him, but he kept the charade to learn the way home.
@@captainblue5096 exactly what i meant by the "buy time" part but its cool to headcanon that he was hoping to find atleast a bit of mercy in the siren

That's an interesting observation!
Although it's not confirmed this does sound like something Odysseus would consider.
Think Eurylochus realized Odysseus marked him as sacrifice and he only survived because he gave the torch to his crewmate ? Hearing Ody calling him brother afterwards to try and appease him, the irony ✨

am I the only ones who think the crew is WARNING Eury about Odysseus not caring about what he must do to survive during Mutiny?
Holy you are right
Ody in the underword: "then i become the monster!"
Me now after the Thunder saga: IT'S TOO MUCH MONSTER ODYSSEUS!!! QwQ
His crew never thought the leopard would eat their face.
Scylla: 6 torches, basically 6 deaths because created light to distract Scylla so they can make it out alive, Eurylochus dropped the torch so he didn’t die
That’s my interpretation
In the animation if u look closely he hands his torch to a crew member to run and save someone then he realizes the torches are bait for the monsters. I think that head canon is pretty cool.
its probably pitch black so ur right i think =]
Damn, it’s kinda sad seeing ody betraying his crew, all this wouldn’t have happened if Eurylochus didn’t open the bag, right?
Well they betrayed first
Probably not. They probably would have gotten home before meeting Poseidon. They were very close. They wouldn't have gone to Circe, which means no underworld, which means no drawn out journey, which also means no hunger, and subsequently no unaliving of Apollos cow friends, and no dead crew. That betrayal was part of the reason everything went wrong
@@zoe.r.4544 damn
Eurylochus could have died 2 different times throughout the story but lived through both after which did something dumb which caused the death of more people
Yeah, they were so close to home that Odysseus' mother was able to see them get blown away. And in some stories this is what caused her to take her own life.
Also, the crew betrayed him first.
I am absolutely LOVING Zeus’s design, the black and yellow look SO COOL!! He’s still awful for forcing Odysseus to kill an infant and making him choose between himself or his men. He looks badass though.
Zeus is Zeus he’s meant to be an assholl
Knowing zeus and listening to the gruesome fate line makes me think that the crew died not by the explosion or drowned but that they got electrocuted to death as the ship was struck, leaving only Odysseus alive as zeus willfully avoided hitting hin with the lightning
In the oddysey, they not die for the lighting, they were send with the waters to be devored by charibdis.
@@mrpyon3724 No? In the Odyssey Zeus did struck their ship down.
@@fbiuzz he did but they died in that way.
The ending of thunder bringer though maaaannnn. The crew knowing they messed up and still tried to appeal to his humanity. Odysseus knowing there is no going back accepting the fate of his decisions as his very brothers curse at him trying to kill him… he floats there drowning literally in the weight of his decisions. Powerful stuff
One man attempts to save his men from the consequences of their own actions.
Okay props to the person that made the segment where Scylla attacks. That was downright terrifying
Okay, so I was relistening to Scylla and Mutiny on Spotify, and something that barely even registered but now looking back on it is amazing because the last time they manage their “Full Speed Ahead” motif cohesively was before Odysseus sacrificed six of his men, but after they start trying to row away from the island after killing the cow It's like the men are trying to perform the "Full Speed Ahead" motif, but unlike before when they were all together, now it's completely disorganized and frantic, especially with Odysseus yelling "FASTER" really sounding like he was just screaming at them instead of giving orders in the background. Gives me the vibe of them no longer obeying him from respect, but pure panic, hence while they're all disorganized and everything feels incredibly off rhythm.
I also like the detail that Eurylocus has always been backed up by the crew, but even now in Mutiny when he led the crew to overthrow Odysseus, sure they stabbed him and knocked him out, but the second the stakes were raised, they immediately fell into line desperately trying to follow Odysseus with Eurylocus not even fighting because even after they rose their Mutiny, he was still their “Captain” not Eurylocus!
another thing: after hearing how paniced Odysseus is, Eurylochus immediately defaults to calling him "Captain" again. it's like he's been calling him "Captain" for so long its just drilled into his mind
a lot of people want to talk about Eurylochus vs Odysseus parts to play so lets list the problems and effects
Eurylochus 8 ish in total: 1). being second in command is in charge of moral and food stores like a quartermaster on a ship. so running out of food 2 times is on him.
2.)the cyclops killing them because he shot the sheep first instead of waiting and asking questions like Odysseus, 3.) opening the bag leading to the rest of the whole story, 558 men because of disobeying orders, 4.) betraying Odysseus after specifically being told to trust him and not start a mutiny in "luck runs out". 5.) by opening the bag causing the trip to take years of extra sailing making it so Odysseus cant see his mom in time.6.) attempting to abandon the crew to Circe. 7.) starting a mutiny. 8.) killing the cows directly protected by the sun god (even after the cyclops incident)
Odysseus 1-3.5: 1.) yelling at athena divine mentors are really nice. 1.5-2.) doxxing himself to the cyclops[ possible .5 due to him mitigating those consequences multiple times]. 3.) the Scylla lair
Eurylochus is the reason for almost every bad thing that happened.
Something worth mentioning as well is that in most of those cases, the outcomes were unpredictable. They didn't know how they would end or how many lives would be lost. The tipping point for the mutiny was that in Scylla's lair, Odysseus DID know exactly what would happen and didn't just allow it, but planned it intentionally. It wasn't just the unfortunate loss of six men; it was literally human sacrifice.
*557 men one guy died because he got drunk and fell off circe's palace roof
@@smiklosovic8971true, but he did it in the attempt to get everyone else home safely (i hope)
It doesnt excuse his sacrifice, but still good to mention.
Odysseus is the one who shot the sheep in Polyphemus
@Mapple318 Likely no, unfortunately. Everything in this saga is pointing to otherwise. From scylla singing "deep down we only care for ourselves" (at the same time that Odysseus gives the command that will doom 6 of his men) to in thunderbringer him literally choosing his own desire to get home over the lives of all the remaining crew. He didn't WANT any of his men to die, but when it comes down to them or him, they're expendable. It was worth the lives of all 600 of them for the CHANCE of getting back.
In the underworld saga we were lulled into the impression that to become a monster was to become a ruthless protector; that Odysseus would destroy any threat to his crew, or "team" no matter how cruel. What really happened that maybe even he didn't realize yet, was that he effectively became his own team. It was no longer Odysseus and his crew vs anything that stood in their way; it instead became Odysseus alone vs anything that stood in his way, including his own men and friends. To become a monster is not as honorable as we initially hoped.
I was like (not knowing the story that well) "why do people say that Eurylochus opened the bag? He was very afraid of the Gods' intention so he wouldn't do something so stupid, right?" Oh well...
honestly when eurylochus said he had something to confess at the beginning of puppeteer my dumbass was like “it sounds like he’s confessing his love lol” and then put no further thought into it so when eurylochus revealed he opened the bag i was like “WHAT??….nevermind that shouldn’t actually be surprising” 😅
@@leejihoom4543 Right? I never thought what could be what he wanted to confess until I saw theories and was like "nooo, it can't be, impossible" and when he said it, *GASP*... I knew it

I love the fact that the community accepted the fact that Eurylochus has giant Claymore, while Odysseus just has a tiny sword. Since the mutiny snippet!
i think jay confirmed it actually!! idk where but i remember something about eurylochus canonically having this giant greatsword
@@wrongbodyrightsoulIn a video from 2 months ago about easter eggs in Epic, yeah it's canon
You're such a lifesaver, I missed the stream (because timezones suck and I was asleep) and I really appreciate the snippets of extra context!
Haha, i like that he eventually went with 12 years or so. Because he messed up the head cannon years in the Circe song. So now he’s not exactly sure how long he’s been out at sea, which really adds to his desperation.
So glad to find this with the original animations AND lyrics visible on screen, really clears up some questions from the official videos. 😅
If Odysseus hadn't sacrificed 6 men, his entire crew would have been lost either way.
Putting my 2 cents in here.
People are quick to condemn the whole crew for their mistakes with the wind and cows, which is fair as they done goofed. However, Ody started all this by ignoring his mentor (goddess of wisdom) and in his pride doxxed himself. Adding on the fact that he didnt even try to figure out how to deal with scylla and just decided that sacrificing 6 men was worth it. Eurylochus was right in his callout, Ody is quick witted and used to value his crew. He quickly came up with the plan to drug the cyclops and followed up with the poke his eye out plan. He came up with the trojan horse and the battle plan for troy. He was willing to head to circe knowing the odds were impossible to win. He even used his wits against poseidon. However when faced with scylla he made no effort beyond "light 6 torches."
Also love the irony of him singing in Monster how he might he feels responsible for the death of his crew so far with his mercy, so he just outright kills 6 by choice.
To be fair. On how they made Sylla, what was ody supposed to do? He knew from suffering that they needed sacrifices. If they fight, theyd probably losr more men than sacrificing.
@@purplebaggyboi I fully get that there may have been no other choice, but what gets me is he doesn't even try to find a way to save his men. He was fine with walking to confront circe knowing he probably couldn't win but still had to try. I love the character growth even if it's to show him becoming more ruthless. I still think Eury is the primary problem, just wanted to pop off on Odysseus.
As a bonus thought, I did wonder why they didn't just use the captured sirens as sacrifice if Ody knew they would need 6 sacrifices? Figured if you tied torches to them, they might have worked as the 6 needed.

Zeus's big number being so focused on himself for most of it is honestly so in character for him
Imagine if eurylocus asked why he wanted specifically six torches 😭😭
There were 4 options go in a way where Poseidon awaits, charybdis (which is almost certain doom) and two options with Scylla sacrifice or get the entire rest of fleet killed.
i think ody does actually stumble upon charybdis later! at least in the unreleased song lineup, there's one called "charybdis" so i'd assume he meets her.
@@wrongbodyrightsoul yes, but if he went there with what was left of his crew, they wouldn't have made it.
Ok, i am on ody's side, the crew deserved it, they killed the cattle, not ody, and they litterally stabbed him, after EURYLOCHUS started the battle, they punished ody because eury started a fight, ody doesnt deserve to be killed, he didnt do anything, he didnt want a fight, and he git stabbed, even tough he was clearly winning a fight that he didnt start, its not his fault
I'm guessing Eurylocus wasn't the only one mad about losing 6 crewmates
Please don't forget that Eurylochus took the wind bag from Odysseus the same bag that help them get home if them not open it, but noo Eurylochus have to take it and open the bag end up killed 550 men from Poseidon
@@Reaperwarth95 550, not 552. Poseidon sank 11 ships with 50 each.
558 was mentioned in the underworld because 7 died against Polyphemus, 550 from Poseidon, and Elpenor fell off Circe's roof, and nobody remembered him.
Not only that, Eurylochus has been antagonistic from the start! Always questioning Ody, he wanted to leave their men to Circe, he opened the wind bag, and now the cattle. And he has the temerity to blame Odysseus for their suffering.
@@KyleElitePlays1 my bad thank you for the info I will fix my comment

I don't know the lore of scilla, but its my headcannon that she wasn't distracted by the torches, she just accepted the sacrifices. She sings her song knowing that to pass her lair safely people have to sacrifice or risk losing the whole ship.
Edit: now i know the lore and ill just accept that as what happens in this musical. In the original there were other things that helped them to only sacrifice six men. She would have just devoured the whole crew anyway.

The fact that ody was willing to kill eury not 1 or 2, but 3 times is so sad. Firstly with the torches in Scylla, later in their fight in mutiny, and finally in Thunder Bringer, where he finally killed him and the rest of his crew
First, he asked Eury to light up 6 torches, not for him to hold one... he never specified anyone to hold the torch as he didn't want to be the one to make the desicion... second, in the mutiny, it was Ody defending himself and supreesing the betrayal, what do u expect??
To be fair. Eury litterally confessed that he caused MOST OF THE PAIN in the entire story. The sheep. The bag. THE BETRAYAL And the cattle. Eury did SO MUCH damage without knowing and probably would've caused more as Oddy thought.

I always thought that odysseus getting betrayed by his crew was his crew held him so erylochus could stab him.
OMFG EURYLOCHUS CANT STOP CAUSING A TROUBLE FOR EVEN ONE SONG
what? ody literally sacrified six men, he knew what was going to happen. In fact, he tried killing eury when he told him to light up the torches. They both did things wrong, but, unlike ody, eury didn't know what would happen when he opened the bag, etc. Ody was always conscious of the consequences and still did the things he did, so I think that is such nonsense saying that eury cant stop causing trouble
@@st4rgirl_77 The fact that he did it without knowing he was gonna cause trouble doesnt change the fact that he caused trouble. Odysseus did wrong things too but it was for most of them to stay alive, they got mad at Ody for being nice, then they got mad at him because he was cruel and made things worse, even though odysseus handled such hard situations in the best way he could he just couldnt trust him and blamed him which caused the zeus thing so i dont really like him
@@st4rgirl_77 Here's the thing, all of them would've been to Ithaca by now if Eury didn't GODDAMN open the bag. Poseidon couldn't do anything to them in the ocean without the winds as Aeolus is the God of the Wind. And Poseidon couldn't drown Ithaca because FATE wouldn't allow him. But of course, Eury just had to open the bag. Odysseus' hubris of telling his name to Polyphemus wouldn't matter, and he wouldn't have even doxxed himself if Athena hadn't intervene and told him to kill it. Ody was beginning to run back to the ship. Then again, Ody and his crew wouldn't be in this situation if GODDAMN Aphrodite and Paris didn't start a pointless war over a woman.

Eurylochus: Lets cut our losses and run leaving behind the kidnapped men for Circe.
Also Eurylochus: YOU KNOWINGLY KILLED 6 MEN!? *Overthrows Odysseus*
My question is, did the crew think striking down Odysseus would save them (would it have?) or did they just want revenge for him being unwilling to die for them (you know after they opened the wind bag, stabbed him, and killed the cattle of the sun.)
I blieve it was amixure of both plus the worry/uncertenty of what to do

I just realized that e man had a torch and handed it of not knowing it was a mark for who should die
(I wrote this before watching the entire video) I’m sort of confused because it the second part of mutiny when they are on the sun gods island Ody said ‘if we kill his cattle, who knows what he’ll send’ or something like that, then after eurylochus stabs or shoots the cow, Ody says the cows were immortal
Immortal and invulnerable are different things. They can live forever, but a mortal wound like a cut throat will still kill them
Yeah what Alan said. Vampires, for example, are immortal but they can still be killed by certain items like wooden stakes and such.
They're immortal and cannot die of old age and I'm assuming sickness even, they can exist for thousands of years and not once perish to natural conditions. However, if someone were to slay them, then they'll drop dead because that is the only thing that isn't a natural condition, the one thing that creates a disturbance in their otherwise peaceful life. Other people's intervention is a disturbance to the natural order of things, for which the cows don't take part in, because the natural order of things doesn't affect them, it's completely frozen for them
