  • The Urnes Stave Church is a fantastic UNESCO World Heritage Site. There were once nearly a thousand stave churches across Norway, though only a handful of them still remain. Urnes is considered the best example of this style, and it's still in fantastic condition. And it's an epic location too, perched on a hill overlooking the fjords - what a spot!

Urnes Stave Church mixes Celtic, Viking and Romanesque art. Urnes Stave Church is a unique masterpiece of human creative genius.

MMM: very beautiful! [I just hope they clean off that mold or whatever that's making the roof tiles discolour.]

The wood is such an interesting contrast with so many of the other churches you've visited. So high with such a small footprint, and what a magnificent setting!

It reminded us a lot of various churches we'd seen in Poland and Slovakia, though those didn't have quite as dramatic locations!

Yes it made me cast my mind back to the other wooden ones you'd seen and thought it was Poland
