Terrific stuff. Wrapping my head around the diminished scale and when and where to use it has really opened everything up with my jazz learning. Using block and drop 2 chords to mix things up has really enriched my playing. Another great lesson from the maestro.

Whenever I find great teachers I always tell them. As a teenager I wanted to learn jazz piano the only problem is living with somebody that hated jazz. It was either classical or nothing. And nothing it was LOL

Thank you so much for this interesting lesson. Im practice, accordingvto my experience, there are rarely block chords that do really sound false, to an average audience at least. In fly me to the moon, one can use only white keys, for example, although the diminshed chords sound a little better, of course.

Just a lil thing, the dominant could be a lil easier if you do the minor 6th scale on the fifth, and then treat it like a normal one block chord scale (so eg for G7, youd alternate a D-6 and a Edim, and it works because the D-6 is just a rootless G9 chord)

The Shearing touch was what I was missing. Sometimes the diminished thing gets too repetitive for my tastes.

There are also some chromatic approaches that I know you know!
