Preferably for any beginners do not use a razor blade, just opt for wire brush, a soft skinny arts n crafts paint brush, or spare fiber to clean grooves. If you are so inclined to use a razor don't press down and slide the grooves or chip/scrape any part of the groove.
You wild using a razor blade😂 but if it works it works I personally like using cleaved Fiber it always does the trick. Be careful you don’t chip the vgroove in your machine I had a good friend do that from cleaning the v groove with metal objects and had to send the machine away to get the vgrooves replaced after chipping them from trying to clean them
im assuming hes cleaning the tiny bits of cladding residue that build up over thousands and thousands of splices.... even if you wipe your fiber with alcohol before cleaving, tiny amounts of cladding residue will build up on your cleavers buffer stop and the grooves in the splicer over time
