The cutscenes, when viewed _naturally,_ have gameplay between them, and the cuts aren’t as obvious out of context like this. For example, Sonic stopping Tabuu from one-tapping the entire cast a second time was the cutscene that starts the boss fight, and the final scene where everything goes back to normal is the victory cutscene.

Why didn't the cutscenes being shown here show like like quick clips of the boss fights because those are the payoffs for the story like I the sonic adventure 2 "movie" they show the cutscene setting up the stage or boss fight and then the cutscene after that. Those sequences are the pay of so I understand why he was confused if he saw all the heroes band up and fight taboo at the end after sonic destroyed his wings it would've been cool and satisfying.

Master Hand is the god of the smash bros universe, he's the embodiment of the developers and their creative vision. He acts as the final boss in the arcade modes of every game, and on higher difficulties the game adds in Crazy Hand, the left hand that embodies destructive impulses and the frustration that can come with developing games.
Tabuu, is well, taboo, the idea that games are something "childish" that one should do away with when you're older, that playing games as an adult is taboo.
So the plot here is literally: all your childhood video game characters band together to fight back against your hobby's social stigma.

    • @coleonthecob8664

I always interpreted master hand as being our own hands instead of the developers as we are the ones who decide how we want play with these characters. I feel like this more lines up with idea that as we grow playing games starts to be seen as taboo which hold us back from playing these games similar to how Tabuu was holding back and controlling Master Hand. It's also completely possible that master hand is supposed to represent both game creator and player and their respective fights against that which is taboo.

@@coleonthecob8664 Crazy Hand is the one that represents the fans, I kinda held off on that detail since it would require explaining what Galeem and Dharkon are within the lore to get the full context.
Together, the hands represent the two sides of a game developer, as a developer creating games, and as a gamer who enjoys playing them.
Crazy Hand being so, well, crazy, is meant to embody the destructive nature that fandoms can often demonstrate.

@@Cri_Jackal you're probably correct especially when talking about smash ultimate. The only problem is that I don't know why tabuu would be holding back and controlling Master Hand if it is supposed to represent the game creators. • @tarheelpro87
      @tarheelpro87 Před 8 měsíci +1

Well I could tell about 70% of what was happening. But I didn’t understand how the badges brought people back out of nowhere, why the Ancient Minister and the R.O.Bs were sacrificing themselves to activate these subspace bombs for a guy who’s about to betray everyone, and some other small scenes where I needed dialogue to catch the hints. Only until I actually saw the names of the cutscenes and searched up the story on Wikipedia did I understand more. If anyone here doesn’t understand it either, I can briefly explain some of these.
The R.O.Bs were forced to activate these subspace bombs because Tabuu the embodiment of subspace obviously took control of Master Hand, and had Ganondorf, Wario, and Bowser work together to tear apart the World of Trophies by dragging it into Subspace. We don’t really know if Tabuu was getting more power out of this, or simply wanted the other world/dimension to be destroyed. But I digress, they found the Island of Ancients with the R.O.Bs and made them detonate these bombs so they wouldn’t kill them all off. The Ancient Minster covers himself up I think to signify his position as their leader, but also out of shame for going along with this. That’s why in the first Flashback with the Ancient Minister, I can assume that was the first time that his kind used one of those Subspace bombs. That’s also why he turned when Ganondorf made them detonate every bimb at once on their homeland the Isle of Ancients. I believe so many were detonated at once, and absorbed so much of the island that it killed every last R.O.B except for the Ancient Minster, and at the end where everything goes back to normal, I think that’s where the Island used to be, now I think it was completely destroyed by Subspace, and that permanent sunrise is now in it’s place.
The badges King Dedede put on everyone were timed, supposed to bring everyone back from their trophy form in a period of time, which is why Kirby, Luigi, and Ness came back. So I can assume King Dedede was trying to test this new invention, and if he was being a good guy, he probably knew that perhaps everyone could be at risk of failing to beat Subspace’s armies, so they could come back and save the day when everyone else is knocked out.
Main thing I do not understand so far, is how all the Nintendo Characters are all lumped together in a world together, but it shows not much sign of recent civilization, just ruins like where we get Charizard, or the Zoo. Mostly everything seems abandoned. It would make more sense like the World of Light in Smash Bros Ultimate where I think everyone just happened to be dumped together in a world and had to work together to save that alternate universe, or save everyone else’s worlds. But that can’t be right cause Mario and Kirby and everyone else was at a Stadium like they already have been living there normally.

it could still happen at some point. i don't think the roster size will be a problem in future games. sakurai made it perfectly clear that ultimate was a one time thing, and the roster will likely never even be close to that big again.
the real problem is going to be alternate costumes; stuff like the koopa kids, the multiple pikmin captains, the gender-swap fire emblem characters etc... for another subspace-style story mode to work, they'd either have to get rid of alternate costumes completely (which would be counter-productive, as i think most people are sick of echo fighters and would rather just have them be alts) or they'd have to completely change the way the story is structured (which would be a huge bummer).
like, for example, would we be stuck with bowser jr. throughout all the cutscenes, and the koopa kids are just absent? or would they introduce each one separately, and now we have 8 copies of the same exact character to play as? maybe they could just let you choose the alts for your characters in the story mode's menu, but then what? each koopa kid just has the same generic personality? besides, i can't imagine the animators would be happy having to do multiple versions of every cutscene that involves character alts. god forbid bowser jr. and olimar team up with robin.

The premise of the statues is that in the original Smash Bros game, it was portrayed that the playable characters were dolls of prominent Nintendo characters, which were being animated by a kid ("Master Hand") to play with and fight each other. With Brawl (which was the third iteration in the series), the doll concept had been changed to use figurines instead. Basically, when they were turned into statues, it was representative of them being "killed", in that the force that was animating them had been removed. It took a spark of life to revive them, and in Brawl, that spark could be provided by the other player characters.
On the note of Master Hand, it had been the main boss of the original game, of Super Smash Bros Melee, which was the predecessor to Brawl, and the boss of Brawl's Classic Mode. It was expected that Master Hand would be the boss pulling the strings behind the antagonists of the Subspace Emissary, which is why the fact that Tabuu was not only controlling it, but that it defeated Master Hand so easily was intended to be such a major plot twist.
Every named character here, except for Master Hand and Tabuu, were player characters that you could fight as in the main play mode. The groups that they traveled in were subdivided so that you would play as one of the characters in each scenario - so, for example, in all of the scenes with Samus and Pikachu, you would have the option to play as one of them, then if you died as that character, you would take control of the other. All of these characters were Nintendo characters, with the exception of Snake and Sonic, who were "surprise" third-party additions. The characters who weren't named, such as Rayquaza, Ridley, and Pigsy, were boss characters that you needed to defeat before you could move on with the story.
As for the antagonists, if you consider the basic dynamic of Mario, Peach, and Bowser, the antagonist group was built up of villains of similar groups, plus Wario. In rough categorization, in the Legend of Zelda franchise, Link would be the "Mario" to Zelda's "Peach" and Ganondorf's "Bowser". Similarly, King Dedede is Kirby's "Bowser".
The bubbles that surrounded Tabuu at the end were each portals to the areas that had been absorbed by the bombs throughout the story. In effect, they had used this to build a massive end-dungeon comprised of every major area that he had been through so far, with recurring bosses, with each area interconnected with each other. After everyone had been turned into statues by Tabuu, they were scattered throughout this dungeon, and you had to go through as Kirby, along with a few others, to find all of the statues so that they could be revived. As characters were revived, they were added to a pool that you could choose from to explore the dungeon. You could build a team from five of the characters that you had rescued do complete this dungeon and to defeat Tabuu.

The general story as I remember/interpret it was simple: Tabuu (the blue guy at the end with the wings) was trying to take over the world by plunging it all into subspace (that's what the black area the bombs created was called). He was puppeting Master Hand who in turn was in charge of Ganondorf (the dark skinned red haired guy), Bowser, Wario, and Dedede. They recruited ROB and the other robots to use the subspace bombs to achieve their goal and "killed" (turned to trophies) all the heroes that stood in their way.
By the end, Dedede, being more an anti-hero than flat-out villain like the others, betrayed them and created the buttons to bring heroes back to life. He was collecting heroes that he hoped to use against the villains. It worked, because thanks to his buttons and Sonic destroying Tabuu's wings so he couldn't one shot everyone anymore, they beat Tabuu and restored the world from subspace.

Also also, in the game you could name the Trainer. In essence the Trainer in smash is just a representative of the player character/avatar in the games since in those games the trainer is supposed to be a stand-in for the player and the same goes for here with the player/trainer controlling/commanding the Pokémon (even in the games, in the overworld you play as the trainer moving around and in battle you control the Pokémon where the trainer acts as the link between your command and the Pokémon)

I know we will!" -Pit, who expects himself to take down about ten Master Hands when he can't even fly without help despite being a literal angel), before getting wrecked by Galeem.

If you saved Zelda, she helps Kirby until she is captured by Bowser, and then Mario defeats the dark Zelda browser creates, causing Link to see Mario defeating Zelda and fight him as an enemy. Inverse the names of Peach and Zelda, and Mario and Link for the other version of the split screen.

Shiek is Zelda disguised as a man. This was a thing in Ocarina of Time, when she had to go into hiding for 7 years. In Brawl, players can switch between the two forms, but later on they each became a separate fighter.
Also a fun thing, Dedede has a history of being a pseudo antagonist. He was the main bad guy only in the first game. Since then, he fights either from a misunderstanding, under possession from the real big bad, or just to compete against Kirby. Over the years, he's become a close friend to the pink puffball.

The way subspace worked with the cutscenes was that when the cutscene ended a cursor would show up and you would pick which character(s) you'd play as. the differing cutscenes were based on which characters you chose. for example during the petey pirahna fight at the beginning you'd defeat him by freeing either zelda or peach and that determined which escaped with you and which bowser was able to capture. Brief explanation of the characters you didn't recognize: Pit is the main character of the Kid Icarus series. Fox, Falco, and Wolf are all characters from the Star Fox series, which is mostly starship combat rail-shooters. Lucas and Ness are protagonists from the Mother series (only one of which came to the US, retitled as Earthbound) which is an rpg series about kids with psychic powers. Marth and Ike are from the Fire Emblem series, which are turn-based tactics rpgs. King Dedede and Meta Knight are characters from the Kirby franchise, who usually show up as boss fights but then turn out to not be the villains. Samus is the main character of the Metroid series. Ganondorf is a main villain in the Zelda series. Olimar is the main character of the first two Pikmin games, where you direct colonies of little ant-like creatures to build bridges and tear down little walls and dig up treasures and whatnot. Ice Climbers are from an old super nintendo game of the same name, nothing that special, they've just been in the Smash games for a long time. Sheik is Princess Zelda's ninja alter ego from Ocarina of Time.

Fox and Falco are from the star fox series. It’s an on rails space shooter.
Pit is from the kid Icarus series. He is an angel but he can’t fly without help from his goddess Palutena.
Lucas is from Mother 3 and Ness from Mother 2 (but most people call Mother 2 earth bound in the west). It’s an RPG series but more sci-fi than fantasy and psychic powers instead of magic. The giant thing chasing them is a reappearing villain from the Mother series called Porky.
Meta knight and king Dedede are from Kirby. Dedede is sometimes a bad guy and sometimes Kirby’s friend.
Marth and Ike are from the fire emblem series. Basically it plays like 3d chess with fantasy archetypes instead of regular chess pieces and a massive high fantasy story and setting.
Samus is from the Metroid series. She’s a space bounty hunter and that pterodactyl thing was Ridley her archenemy.
Olamar is from the Pickmen series. He’s an astronaut that crashes on an alien planet and leads an army of plant people (pickmen) to find parts for his ship.
The ice climbers are from an old Nintendo game of the same name.
Snake is from the metal gear and metal gear solid games. They are stealth focused games with a lot of political intrigue and convoluted plot lines.
ROB the robot was an add on for the original Nintendo entertainment system.
The small guy in black was Mr Gaming Watch. He was a character made for a series of one game handhelds called gaming watch.
Ganondorf is the main villain in Legend of Zelda. And Shiek is Zelda in disguise.
Captain Falcon is from the F-zero series. It’s a sci-fi racing game.
Master hand is the main antagonist of the super smash bros series and Tabuu was a villain only in brawl.

Wow I never saw someone know so little about Nintendo franchises.
    I mean you don't know who King Dedede is ? He's Kirby's main rival/frenemy.
"Zero" is actually called Samus, and when she doesn't have her armor, she's called Zero Suit Samus.
It's not Browser, it's Bowser. It was even written on the screen when he first appeared !
Pit this one I understand that you don't know. He's from the NES game Kid Icarus, and he got redesigned for Smash. And later on he got a 3ds game with his Smash design.
The woman who gave him his bow (that he can separate into two blades) is Palutena, goddess of Light, who Pit serves. There's wasn't much to know about her until the 3ds game came out.
Pit's wings don't allow him to fly, but Palutena can give him the Power of Flight in order to make him able to fly for a short while, but he can't fly constantly.
Zelda, you know, Link's princess, and Sheik are one and the same. In Ocarina of Time Zelda took the name of Sheik and disguised herself as a man in order to escape Ganondorf.
Speaking of Ganondorf, he's often the main antagonist of the Zelda games. He's often the final boss and often turns into the Demon King Ganon for the final fight. Not always though.
Ness is the protagonist of the first game in Earthbound/Mother series, while Lucas is the protagonist of Earthbound/Mother 3. They aren't related and never even met each other canonically.
And I think that's all the most important stuff you didn't know about these characters. You should really learn more about all of Nintendo's worlds and characters because they're really great ^^

  • @franciscojaviermendezrinco1902

Some details, I know you don't know many characters, so I'll tell you this:
-Marth and Ike come from a franchise named Fire Emblem. That franchise almost didn't make it out of Japan if it wasn't for Marth's introduction in Super Smash bros Meele, he and another Fire Emblem character that doesn't appear in Brawl were almost cut out of the game because how unkown Fire Emblem was outside of Japan, but thanks to them staying in the end made Fire Emblem a successful saga outside Japan.
-Samus and Zero Suit Samus are basically the same character, just that regular Samus has a bulky armor and Zero Suit Samus is Samus but when she removes the armor.
-Kirby, Meta Knight And King Dedede come from the same game, named Kirby, Meta Knight in Super Smash Bros brawl was the most broken character of the game, so much that in tier lists he had his own tier named the "SS Tier" and is the only character in the franchise's history to archive that, and Dedede is voiced by the director of the game, Masahiro Sakurai, but his voice is distorted, it has been that way even in Smash Ultimate.
-Ness and Lucas come from a game trilogy named Earthbound, the games aren't so known to new Nintendo fans because it was a game that baremy made it out of Japan, it was because of Ness inclusion in the first Super Smash Bros that the game was comercialized out of Japan.
-The Ice Climbers only have one arcade game, but because they were so popular in Super Smash bros Meelee they were included in future Super Smash Bos games except for the version for Wii U and 3DS. They are basically two characters in one, you control the blue one and the pink one fights following you.
-Toon Link, Jigglipuff and Wolf have so weird cutseens because they aren't part of the Subspace Emessary, they are unlockable characters in arcade mode and VS mode.
-Super Smash Bros Brawl was the first game of the franchise that added bosses to the game. Some are from other games and some are original. For example, Rayquaza is a boss in the game and Diddy and Fox fight it. An example of an orignal boss is that car that turned into a robot. That is named Galleom, and is also as well in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a boss as well.
-The Pokémon Trainer has a gimmick, he can send either squirtle, ivisaur or charizard to fight in his place, but in this game the pokémon of the trainer could get tired, with that they give weaker hits and the only solution is to switch them out.
-Until this game Zelda had the ability to transform into Sheik and back, in the next game both characters were separated, and in their orignal game Zelda is Sheik.
-Snake and Sonic were the first two non Nintendo characters to be added to Super Smash Bros.
-The double scenes were determinated depending on what you do in the first boss battle, the flower with the cages which is named Pretty Pirahna and is from the Super Mario games. Pretty Pirahna has no life metter, instead the cages have it, and depending on which cage you break first the scenes are selected depending if you break Peach's cage or Zelda's cage. That battle determinates which scenes you'll see.
-The black character is named Mr Game and Watch, and is from a series of determinated sprites' games named Mr. Game and Watch. Those games were the first portable games Nintendo made and they worked like calculators work.
-The robots that activated the bombs, as you see, are a playable character named R.O.B. R.O.B has only one game, but what makes it special is that is a console as well.
-This is the only game where Tabuu appears, but it's well remember because is the only boss that appears at the end of a story mode.

This is a point-by-point explanation all in one single place for any non-Smash player who may see this in the future:
First of all, in the first game of Smash Bros, for the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo characters are just dolls a kid plays with, and what we see as gameplay is just the imagination of the kid. That was expanded to this game, as the characters are just "living" trophies, and when they are beaten, they turn into trophies again, until someone or something activates them again.
Now, explaining what Don didn't understand:
2:42 Mario and Kirby were just fighting in a tournament, that's why they re-activated the ofter and shake hands peacefully after the fight. The cutscene is divided into two alt versions because you can choose to play as either Kirby or Mario, so the one you don't choose loses in the cutscene after you win the battle.
4:20 When you play against the plant to save Peach and Zelda, you have to choose who to save by destroying the cage, so the one you save is the one who comes out with Kirby on the cutscene, hence the divided alt cutscenes that will appear with the rescued princess from there on.
5:27 Yes, Pit is an Angel, and the woman who appeared is in fact a Goddess. She granted him a Divine Bow, that can be separated and used as a pair of swords, as Don asks later.
10:05 Pit can't fly on his own; he can just glide. The Goddess from before can grant him the ability to fly but only temporarily.
10:59 Rayquaza's cameo is honestly pretty random, yeah, but when it comes to why was he doing all of that is because it's protecting its territory; the same way Rayquaza attacks you on the Pokemon games if you go to his tower to capture him; it thinks the ship and Diddy Kong are intruders that probably came to capture it. And it just disappears after that because it is a boss fight only.
12:32 That fake Bowser trophy appears out of nowhere because it appears on the world as you play; at the end of the level, Bowser appears as a boss fight, but it looks all purple, showing that it's not the real Bowser, and after you win the cutscene reveals it was a fake Bowser made off of that purple thing.
12:58 The cutscene with Toon Link, the one with Jigglypuff, and the one with Wolf, are not part of the story, that's why they are so random; those cutscenes play when you unlock them as playable characters if you manage to find them where they are hidden on the world as you play.
15:57 Red is called "Pokemon Trainer" because they brought him as just the avatar the player gets when playing a Pokemon game, is not for copyright reasons as they own the character Red as well. In the Pokemon game you can give this character the name you want, so when they brought him to Smash is just a "nameless" character, so just a "Pokemon Trainer"
17:59 The reason why they fight initially is that Meta Knight thought Marth was related to the bomb, therefore a bad guy, so he attacked him without asking questions, and Marth just fought back. When they both saw that the actual bad guys attacked them both, they knew they were both good and joined forces.
23:14 They start attacking each other because Link/Mario didn't know the princess was fake, so Link/Mario just saw his princess Zelda/Peach being beaten by other people, and naturally, they thought those people were evil because of it.
27:33 Master Hand had been the final boss of the Smash games until then and is basically a God. So when it shows here commanding Ganondorf is telling the players that the God Master Hand is the one behind everything that's happening.
38:04 The reason why Lucario attacked Meta Knight was to see if he was good or evil, and the same as the Mario vs Kirby fight at the beginning, you can decide who to play with and therefore who loses, hence the alt cutscenes.
39:22 This is a gag referencing the game where the character Snake comes from. He comes from stealth games, where he can hide from enemies inside of a box to not be detected.
40:55 That "Sheik" character appears out of nowhere because is actually the other princess, Zelda. That's something she does in the games: she transforms herself into that Sheik alter ego, which has ninja skills.
43:07 Yeah, the ship has Meta Knight's mask in it, because that's his ship; it was just stolen by the evil guys.
47:56 The little ship/flying board thing Kirby has there comes from its games; it's a powerful weapon you use in the climax, but it was also added as a usable item in this Smash game, as a one-hit-ko item, and that's why they let Kirby use it in the cutscene.
50:33 Now, this is the part that confuses more people because this is explained in the gameplay instead of the cutscenes; what Tabuu does there is a giant maze. If you see the images inside of the bubbles you can see they are places shown before in past cutscenes, all of them places that were sucked up by the bombs before, so those places are contained inside of those bubbles. You can see it as the bombs trapped those places on pocket dimensions, and all those bubbles Tabuu surrounds itself with are those dimensions, so the heroes have to move between bubbles to get to him, making them move between levels you already played before but all out of order and interconnected as a big maze.
50:57 Yeah, King Dedede was a good guy all this time. The reason why he captured Luigi then is unknown, but that's the way he acts in the games; he does bad things with an actual good reason behind them, but sometimes it is just stupid because he does all those things without explaining what is the good reason behind, and just get beaten because of it.
53:05 What that gesture means is that he doesn't want to help them out, because Ganondorf is the bad guy in the game where Link and Zelda come from, so they are enemies; so when they explain to him that they have to join forces, he doesn't want to, but he knows he has to.
53:54 Sonic appears just at the end because he was added late in development, so they just added him as a last warrior joining the team for the final battle.
54:09 This is the cutscene that plays after you beat him in the final boss fight. What happens is that all the pocket dimensions they created with the bombs get dissolved, and so all the places trapped inside them are returned to their original place, and peace is restored.
Now, to explain what was all of that about, the summary is that Tabuu wanted control over everything. Taboo made Master Hand send the evil people to detonate all the bombs to capture all those places in pocket dimensions to use them all on its big maze thing, so it has all the important places for his own control all around it. And also sent the bad guys to turn the heroes into trophies because, well, they are heroes; they are the people who were gonna fight against it to stop its quest to own the world for itself, so it sent the minions and the evil people to capture and stop the heroes so they couldn't fight back.

I haven't played all of the original games but the origins for the characters are as follows:
-Mario, Yoshi, Zelda, and Luigi are pretty obvious along with DK and Diddy Kong (little monkey)
-Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight are from the Kirby games
-Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Toon Link, and "Shiek" are from The Legend of Zelda series... also Shiek is some sort of secret identity Zelda has (idk much about Zelda lore lol)
-Lucas and Ness are from the Mother/Earthbound series
-Pokemon Trainer acrually allows you to switch between the three OG starters during gameplay although their in different evolution stages (squirtle, Ivysaur, then Charizard)
-Mr. Game and Watch (the black 2D character) was from some old hand held console a long time ago (I think the 90s or 80s)
-ROB (what the evil dude turned into after becoming good) I'm a little shaky on but I'm pretty sure he was an extension for some console which allowed you to play certain games or something??? Idk
-Wario and Bowser are also from the mario series but I forgot to put them at the top of the list and I don't want to go back up there 😂😂😂
    -Samus is from Metroid.
-Snake is from the Metal Gear franchise (Metal Gear Solid, his name is Solid Snake)
-You know where Sonic is from...
-Olimar is from a game called Pikmin which I've never played
-Wolf, Fox, and Falco are from the Starfox series
-Captain Falcon is from an game called F-Zero which is a racing game. (Fun fact: Captain Falcon was never supposed to be a character but they created him to represent F-Zero in one of the earlier Smash games
-Marth and Ike are from the Fire Emblem Franchise
-Ice Climbers are from the game Ice Climbers
-And Lucario, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff are seperate playable characters from Pokemon Trainer. I never knew why these pokemon specifically added to the game but I'm guessing it's just because they are iconic and fan-favorites
I think I got everyone, I don't remember if there were DLC characters but if any1 remembers some1 I forgot or knows the DLC characters than please add it to the replies... I hope Don sees this or I just wasted 5 mins 😂😂😂😂

Pikachu and Jigglypuff were both added before Trainer, with both of them being introduced in the OG and Pokémon Trainer in Brawl, and furry Goku was too cool to be lumped in with a flower dicynodont, a kappa, and a winged salamander posing as a proper dragon.

Captain Falcon was a character before Smash. F-Zero X had portraits of the racers alongside their vehicles, and there was also an F-Zero comic that fleshed out the characters a bit more. Captain Falcon’s Moveset was completely made up for Smash though. And it’s believed that it was based on the nameless characters that were going to be playable back when Smash was a completely different game.

    • @Metatronio
      @Metatronio Před rokem

-Sheik was a disguise donned by Zelda to hide from Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. (Fun Fact: Sheik's been in more Smash games than Zelda games)
-Mr. Game and Watch is an amalgamation of the player characters from the Game and Watch series of handhelds from the early 80s.
-R.O.B (Robotic Operating Buddy) was an accessory released with the NES used for the games Gyromite and Stack Up. R.O.B helped market the NES as a toy opposed to a game console, allowing it to bypass the stigma around video games following the Video Game Crash of '83. Basically, R.O.B helped save gaming.
-Captain Falcon was already a character in the F-Zero franchise. His moveset is believed to be a carry over from an early build of Smash before the preexisting Nintendo characters were added.
-Pikachu was chosen because it's the mascot of Pokémon. Jigglypuff was chosen because of it's similarities to Kirby allowing for a quick addition at the end of Smash 64's development. Lucario was a major part of the marketing for the 4th Generation of Pokémon, so it was a given that it would be chosen for Smash.
-It should be noted that the purple dragon Samus and Pikachu fight is named Ridley and is Samus' nemesis. The second time you fight him, he's upgraded to his Meta Ridley form from Metroid Prime.
-Absolutely minor thing but the game is called Ice Climber, not Ice Climbers

The basic story of the first 3 Smash Bros games is the gameplay is a kid playing with action figures (the statues they all turned into) making up fights. Master Hand is the boss of the first game and is supposed to be the kid trying to put the toys away. In the second game they introduce Crazy Hand which is the kids second hand, basically trying harder to put them away. Finally, in this game, Tabuu is supposed to be the parent coming in to clean up the mess.

Pit is disabled, he doesn’t have the ability to fly unless given by the Goddess. He can glide, but not fly. His whole story is that all the people and the goddess, Palutena (the woman you see in the beginning) of Angel Land were taken by Medusa to the Underworld. He was spared out of pity, and through many brutal attempts, managed to get to Medusa and defeat her.
