"We're gonna need a bigger boat"
Yes we are!
Line capacity 200,000,000 yds of 30 lb mono. Lol. Thanks Dennis! Always a good show!
Thanks Mike
I have never seen a reel that huge in my life! I don’t even want to think about how expensive filling it up with line would be
Amen! Probably worth a few gallons of gas???
WoW.. that's a BIG REEL.....the positive clacking very distinctive to the Jaws movie Great job Dennis...
... Perfect as always 👍🏻😀... Thx for sharing... Tight lines from germany...
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks! - Dennis
I really appreciate your comments when taking out screws or reassembling. Thank you.
Thanks Scott - Best wishes - Dennis
Hi Dennis I'm currently servicing a PENN 10/0 It has the metal strip dog spring which would date to the 40's-50's era. A terribly dirty but beautiful reel. (cleaned up like new) I won this at auction for $60 Only serious problem was one beauty ring (116-0, outside) was broken. Fortunately, eBay had one. What a monster!!
Yes it is! Sounds like you got it at a great prices to! That dog spring was never changed over to the coil spring on this model, so don't use that to date the reel - Dennis
Dennis, it's funny how opinions differ on drag washers. Some say carbontex washers should be dry, some like moderate grease and some add so much grease it squeezes out when the drag is tightened. And all approaches are "right". I prefer some grease but don't wipe it down as you do. All's well if the drag is smooth and adjusts as needed.
Thanks Ward. It is all about whether the washer can absorb grease. Carbontex does not, so anything beyond a light coat is wasteful. Best wishes - Dennis
Absolute giant! I would love to own one!
They are beasts! This one is a thing of beauty
That's a Big Fishing Reel. Would love to own one.
You and me both! big, and expensive too!
That’s an awesome reel
Yes it is! Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis
All I can say is, “WOW1”
Me too! WOW!
@@2ndChanceTackle Dennis, that 16/0 is perhaps the most remarkable vintage reel I’ve seen on your channel. You know me. I’ve seen every video you’ve got on CZcams. Wasn’t it wild that Armando got a 10/0 and sent me photos on the same night you previewed this 16/0. Armando said his reel has the high quality German Chrome. It is not Chrome plated. He got it for $100 at a flea market. That was a WOW for me too. I hope Adam isn’t going out to get JAWS! My personal WOW was getting a second 1961 Pen Spinfisher 700. I never thought that would happen! - Chris
Penn actually made a 20/0 as well. Very very limited run . Like 20 or so. Very informative video.
Thanks for the info! I was unaware of the 20/0! Best wishes - Dennis
Dennis assuming the parts are original
to the reel the one piece spool was introduced in 1955. Not sure when the
catalin handles were replaced by plastic
I would guess mid 60s. My best guess is
1955-1965 or so.
Thanks - do you know when the etched side plates went away?
@@2ndChanceTackle To the best of my
knowledge the reel kept the billfish etchings
to the end of production. Ive seen later 14/0with the etchings. Im not sure if the 14/0
is still made but it carried the decorated
sideplate into the 2000s im sure.
Man I really want one of those 16/0 Senator to complete my collection.
You can always use it as a dumbbell in a pinch! The reel weighs over 10 pounds! - Dennis
my friend paid somewhere $200+/--, for one right after Jaws.. We would shark fish in the shipping channel. he would use a balloon to float the bait out with the tide, give the line a jerk, and pop the balloon . even if he didn't a hook up, just reeling all the line in was a major chore
to carry the pole he carried the tip end down in front, and the reel upside down on the back of his shoulder like a logger carrying a chainsaw
There you go. I just mailed the reel back. It weighed in at just over 10 pounds! Thanks
@@2ndChanceTackle I hope you got extra insurance, have you seen the prices they get for them in ebay. I have bought vehicles cheaper
Excellent job amigo
Thanks 👍
I have 2 of this model. One is used and shows some aging on the chrome and the black of the plastic flanges is a bit faded but I own a second one never been used with the original blue box and owners manual and tube live from the factory. I was wondering what was the market price for this reel. If you have information it would be very welcome. And thank you for your very helpful video. ❤
These are sought after reels. The market price is between $500 and $900 depending on condition. The one reel sounds like the lower estimate and the one with the box and in new condition would be a lot higher, maybe $1000 if it is unused - Dennis
Of course in Jaws he fought the shark with the clicker on....Hollywood!
You have a better memory than I with regards to the clicker being on!
Could use brake cleaner, petrol(gasoline) or diesel to clean its abit quicker just make sure to add some lubricant to recoat the part to prevent corrosion
Yes - those cleaners would work. I generally avoid them because of the odor, but they could be used, and as you noted, make sure to relate once the cleaning is completed - Thanks - Dennis
Hello Denis from Northern Ontario Canada. We do not use those reels here, but do on our east coast. I have a 14/0 and 3 16/0. Would you, or would you know where a Canadian can order NOS parts or good used parts for these reels. For example upgraded brake kit, screws, springs, wearable parts, upgraded parts like brass to stainless or titanium. Can the side plates that have a few cracks where the screws go in be silver soldered. Would it be possible to rechrome, anodized or plate the spools for both appearance and corrosion protection.
For your tutorial video, the only add is going on global TV. You speak well, no music that drowns out your comments, no shaky views, well heard and if there is any positive comments I have missed, well my apologies if so. Very much appreciated. Please keep up the fantastic tutorials. All the best from Canada and thank you sir.

Agreed about the music on a lot of otherwise decent videos that other guys put out.
What is the max drag on this beast reminds me of replacing the wheel bearing on my truck
We did the upgrade and that improved the max drag by about 30%. That reek could probably act as a winch on your truck.
Olá do Brasil
Meu irmão mora na Flórida
Como comprar uma igual a essa ??
Sou um colecionador
Por favor pode me ajudar ??
Você precisa que seu irmão encontre um que esteja disponível, provavelmente localmente ou no eBay
I have few PENN REELS that need fix . One of them needs the dog bar and can't find it.
Try Mysticparts.com they are a Penn parts reseller - Dennis
Hey Dennis, I just got a Penn 14/0 that I spooled with straight 130lb mono , my reel has the same style of spool which I think is one piece brass, but I was told that running straight mono over time will warp the spool , is that true? I always store my reels indoor after fishing and always store with drags back down to zero. Do I have anything to be concerned about?
You do not need to worry it. Early on, you would get spool warp if the mono was wound too tight and left. It that cause, it would act like a vice and compress the sides. As long as the line is installed properly and the reel is used regularly in order to unwind the tension, there is little chance that you will get a warped spool. Also, the 14/0 has a VERY Heavy metal construction. These are not the thin skinned spools that were troubled with this issue - Dennis
Dennis, In the movie, once they hooked up to the shark, he started stripping out line. The captain had them pour water on the reel so it wouldn’t overheat. Was that really a thing or Hollywood make believe?
Hollywood at it's finest!
That’s what I thought. I couldn’t see any way for water to get in to cool the drag
@@youngmartinsreels5314 Actually they did but
that was a run against a locked drag by a
huge fish not the situation portrayed in
Jaws. I have an old Pflueger templar with
an external drag and it will get very hot
if a big enough fish gets hold of it. Many
years ago a big shark spooled my 10/0 and the reel was smoking. That was 40 years ago
and I havent use the reel since. The old
asbestos drags can take heat but they can
and will smoke and yes they used to pour
water on occasion. .
I’ve been having problems with my 12/0’s handle going backwards
That issue would be in the anti-reverse dog and spring
they are getting close to 400 dollars on e bay been shopping for one
Yes - they are and have been fairly expensive. Well worth the price
is it a must to change the steel drag washers i see the ht 100s for sale without the steel washers save a few dollars
It is not a must to do that.
That is probably caused by a weak spring. Not much you can do for that except replace it
Essa peça está a venda ??
No. Este era el carrete de un cliente y no mío para vender.
Que tú por preguntar
Hi Dennis are all new fishing reels assemble by hand or are they assemble by or a robot
By hand. There are still a lot of small parts that need to be hand set
Thank you
what is the turn ratio on it reguards peter
The reel holds 1000 yards of 130# mono. It has a gear ratio of 1.6:1. That is about as low speed as you can get!
Hey Denis I called you and left a voice message and was wondering if you could help me with my reel trouble if not idk what I’d do and I’d be in reel trouble thanks 🙏
I am behind in returning calls. I will try later this evening. An email works best. 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com is my address for the email - Dennis
hello Denis, I bother you with a question... what is the difference between a penn beachmaster 155 and a penn 160? thanks in advance hug
Not Dennis here but to answer you question
the 160 is narrower than the 155 otherwise
same reel. The 160 is a scarcer reel.
@@armandoreyes1891 I appreciate a lot your help💪👍🇺🇾
