That’s great mechanical detective work Dennis. Great help for the Gazillion 60/40 Merce out there!
    Just wondering about mine now.

    Hi Dennis,
So is this going to be a problem with my new 90/65 do you think. I believe that was your 60/40 you were showing correct?

Yes this is on the 60/40. I'm not sure on the 90. Likely the same.

Will that plastic make my motor after running cranking on it start starving for fuel

I have a 2003 60hp that seems to run fine most of the time. But every couple of trips out after I’ve shut the engine off and trolled for a while, when I start the engine it won’t run. It fires up and idles for a second or two and dies. I’ve always resolved it by removing the filter and purging the lines and rinsing the filter. But I have to do it numerous times before it will start and run. Does this sound like symptoms of the issue you described? Maybe I’m not really fixing it but the disruption of fuel flow is ultimately dislodging that blockage enough to run for a while?

It is likely. I have seen that broke reed move around and sometimes allow gas to pass.

    Thanks again, Dennis-👍
I’ll get a fuel filter on that line ASAP.
You think having an electric fuel pump (low psi) hooked to the fuel line beforehand if there is a problem with the fuel system in case of any DRAMA out in the water? Most likely have to separate from the outboard itself, kill switch on the positive wire or hook to battery when needed.

You know I don't think so. That is a viable option though. Would want to find a cap for the mechanical pump so it wasn't dry pumping.

What micron filter? Worried about fuel restriction.

Hmm hard to say if Merc is actually to blame however the lack of fuel filter would certainly be on them.
Have to see if this problem just happens most with poorly vented tanks or is it a poor lp pump. Might not be the pumps fault maybe.
Either way both issues are solvable with relative ease.
I know we all can name some things thats required a few more beers and bit more cussing. 😂
Filter is definitely a good measure forsure.

There is a filter before the low pressure pump and another before the injectors. Just if or when low pressure fails, you're not protected. Was told yamaha has one here.

@@DennisBohannan Man if it doesn't have a water separator on it somewhere and your going to have the basic tools out anyway.
Just a thought i have on on my IM jet and you'd be surprised if you dont have one already.

      I haven't studied those like I have the 60/40.
