Harris Brazing Alloy - How to Silver Solder Steel Rings - Soldering Tutorial

The Harris Products Group has the right supplies for solder and brazing all kinds of metals. In this short and to the point silver soldering tutorial I show you how to solder and fill the gap on a handmade steel ring. The two products from Harris are white paste flux and 45 percent silver brazing alloy. The light weight torch has an 0 tip on it and I use a fairly soft flame to do my brazing and soldering. I have used Harris Products for many years for making my handmade bits and spurs plus buckles.

Question Bruce, why such a large gap? I try to keep my silver braze joints tight that's the way I was taught, Thanks.

Agreed - gap should be small so that the solder is accepted by capillary action for the greatest strength. The solder should be placed ON the gap, and be heated as the same time as the metal, not after.

Yes the 56 flows smoother and looks a little better.
