Checking in on students who weren’t there, setting up activities for students who don’t have access to computers or internet etc.

I mute them all and call on them one at a time to answer to keep attention, share my screen to show related videos and use my active inspire board to type. Also, they use hand signals when they want to share something to the entire group and must wait to be called upon! This is all new but, I am just grateful each day I get to see my kiddos. • @femmeNikita27
      @femmeNikita27 Před 3 lety +1

      From another side of the fence: if you care as a teacher kids don't show up and don't feel like learning anyway. Since they think that they don't have to work if they are not out of home, parents accept it and don't care. Majority of them doesn't show up. If they show up they don't even switch on the camera. When you explain things they mute their mics. When you ask questions they keep quiet. You try to keep your and their morale up but at the end of the day you can only feel sorry for their parents and wonder how this lost and lazy generation is going to survive brutal job market of the future. But before sleep you just say to yourself I'm glad I wasn't that stupid as a kid and another one is after all it's their choice not mine and thank God this is not my own child.

      High school student here: I agree with a lot of your points, video conferencing lessons can be really hard to set up and I can understand that repeating the lesson would be frustrating; but I would argue that they are worth it for discussion and social engagement. In addition, asking questions at the end of a 6-hour school day is very taxing, (honestly doing anything after a 6 hour school day on zoom is lol) so having that time when you can ask questions related to the subject material right after you learned it is much easier, at least for me. Hope this helped give another perspective!

    Might be worth investing in a proper meeting app, not just google hangouts or facetime. I'm in paramedic training at the moment and the theory parts are done via an app that allows an "organiser" and "moderator" tag for users, so non-moderator users can be force-muted and -unmuted by the moderators. It also allows screen sharing, so you don't have to draw on a shitty board nobody can see in the tiny window of 1/32th of the monitor. It does need adaptation to the medium, which is aditional work, that has to be said. But my trainers are reall enthusiastic about the whole thing and we are slowly figuring out a way to (in the future) teach more people via this method by reducing the days required in physical presence. Should make the transition from other jobs easier.
