People are talking loudly and so many people gathered which stressed the elephant, he wants to run away but confused because of many people are talking. This is a show for people, but it is terrifying for him, because he is a wild elephant, also elephant can’t tolerate too much Noise made by human.

Why are people and children clogged and shouting near the elephant. Let the professionals do their work. In Africa only the professionals are allowed to come to the site and recover the elephant in need. Silence and a peaceful environment is needed to keep the elephant calm.

Watching these people throwing stuff at her when she's trying to I get out just shows how ignorant they are. I feel bad for the elephant she's making every effort to get out of that water hole. Shame on those people.

Cruelty to these animals are widespread in this country. Also embedded in their religion, otherwise would Budhha allow poaching these from wild and trained chained and beaten , walked for many km, dressed with lights attached to perform in their religious festivals.

Maybe I am interpreting this wrong, but it sure seems that all of these people are hampering the elephant’s efforts by stressing her out even more. They’re maybe hoping to encourage her but they most definitely are not helping. This is an animal that is so revered but even the habitants there seem very ignorant of what is best for the animal. I find it hard to believe that there isn’t a way to contact people trained and skilled in this type of rescue instead on firing smoke bombs at her. I’m not impressed with the people who just kept scaring and stressing her. No wonder she was so angry.
Some of the villagers are also seen stealing her baby towards their village so not sure , what intentions these people have for these poor loving animals
It always takes 75 Indians to save one elephant. That seems to be the ratio in all these videos.
I'd have done the same thing as the elephant! ALL those people, laughing + shouting when the 🐘 was clearly frustrated, upset, angry and scared. I get it; It's another country with different culture & I respect that; However, take your pics + videos WITHOUT stressing out the animal in need!! THANKFULLY people showed up to help. I'm glad no one was hurt and that the elephant was safe. I'd wager both those elephant's WON'T go back into that canal anytime soon!

I have seen several videos over the years of elephants trapped in this very same canal in Sri Lanka. Elephants love water. So they will not shy away from water. Wonder what measures the authorities have taken to provide easier exits for the trapped elephants at multiple points. The exit first elephant used to get out was not a very convincing one for elephant. I wonder if it was even built for elephants to exit.
To think out a permanant proper solution, those in authority should have intellect and wisdom.
Unfortunately, in SL those in authority have been to shool but don't receive quality education. A large number in parliment also don't have secondary school certificate. One can't acquire intellect and wisdom from the air they breath or the water they drink. They need to receive QUALITY EDUCATION to develop intellect and wisdom. So for all the elephant lovers, it can be guaranteed such videos will keep flowing in.
I tried repeatedly to reach out to them sometime back to offer support but received no response. Yah, they cannot understand any other language other than their native language which is spoken ONLY in Sri lanka by about relatively small population of 15 million people. Obviously difficult to communicate with them. Very primitive people.
I wonder how many of you actually saw Wildlife officers HELP either of the elephants get out of the canal !!! Misleading caption and commentary. Lack of good command over English language.

In Sri Lanka one cannot just keep hoping for solutions. If they do nothing will come out from it. Therefore, someone should proactively act to push for solutions.
In recent years number of elephant deaths in Sri Lanka due to varies reasons had been alarming.

How foolish are the Sinhala shouting people. While the elephant is climbing out the fools are shouting and annoying the innocent animal. The elephant thinks the shouting people behind are a threat and turns away back onto the water to defend himself. Let the innocent animal climb out over at his own time.

Exactly. Very predictable problem with an obvious solution.
I know they are trying to help the elephant but having that many people shouting, revving motorbike engines and throwing stones, is only scaring the poor animal. People should have been moved away from the area and most certainly fire crackers should not have been used. The elephant could have hurt itself or one of the annoying bystanders in its panic to get out.

One of the worst films I ever saw, the elephant that got stuck in the canal was also surrounded by people on BOTH sides of the water. They fear people! When she finally got out she was faced with a wire fence which is why she charged, she had to clear a path to get away. When an elephant holds its trunk in its mouth it’s scared, this elephant did that in the canal when people were shouting at it and throwing things at it, and she probably thought she would never escape. Can someone PLEASE do an educational video instead of this rubbish? Especially in Sri Lanka where such huge Human Elephant Conflict exists?!
