Man I love Europe 72’ so much, It’s just sad seeing pig on stage knowing how little time he had left with the band and his life. Alligator and Love Light were always highlights for me in the primal dead sets of 67-69, pigs little quips and raps on stage just bring a new energy and life to the band. The band didn’t lose much technically or musically when he departed but a part of their soul was surely permanently fractured. As Jerry himself said at pigpens funeral “That’s not pig lying there. That’s the grateful dead!”
He’s Gone, and he’s the Love of my Life.. I’ve had a lot of Loves and many Lives.. I may never tell him his smile is made of the sun’s rays and his pheromones are my personal ambrosia.. NOone can replace him, as he was my personal gift from God. Such Gratitude. BB(NLH)CH2MB whenever you want. ❤
I like this swingin version of the song best. Has such a great groove. And not much drop off here from the extra percussion that would come back a bit later (despite the song's story).

The tone Jerry got out of Alligator was so amazing. His sound during this era and when he was playing the Travis Bean in the 77 period were the best.
