It used to be a gigantic fish pond, when I was growing up. I transferred to a Kuliouou bus and traveled to the end of the line just pass the fish pond to hike up the hill to go to Hanauma Bay. This was back in the Forties. I left Hawaii in 1953.

Thanks for sharing that owleyes. I'm somewhat in awe what Mr. Kaiser did to transform the area, but would love to see the area as it was prior to development. So I'm somewhat envious of you.

The one place I saw was my address for a time was the Moorings, waterfront facing the island.

Hawaii Kai has such beautiful, safe neighborhoods. I'm going to check out open houses there tomorrow, looks like a few 4 bedroom houses under $2M which seem like good values.

I remember looking at a two bedroom condo at The Esplanade with my parents in the mid 80s. They were going to retire there. I wish they had bought it. 😞

Actually you can still find a nice townhome for under $1M and a single family home between $1M-$2M. Here is a marina front townhome currently on the market: matrix.hicentralmls.com/Matrix/Public/Portal.aspx?p=DE-26119848-692&k=390196X5B39&eml=YnJ5YW52dWtlbGljaEBoYXdhaWlsaWZlLmNvbQ==

Why are there no buildings on the mountains? Why are there no large ships, yachts, ferries, or cruise liners in the canal part, I'm confused here? most of those islands are missing a central skyscraper or something to look up to from your house. Dubai is in a lot of ways more attractive because they incorporate a tower or skyscraper in every community. Hawaii needs more skyscrapers everywhere, it will eventually run out of land to build and the housing that they do have is not sufficient enough for the population size that is expected to be there 50 years from now.

That would ruin the beauty of Hawaii!! Especially, in Hawaii Kai!! Let Dubai stay Dubai and beautiful Hawaii will always be beautiful Hawaii!! Hopefully, the natives not all of them would be alot nicer to people that move there from the states particularly, Texas! I've moved back because they were horribly mean! They hated my accent and blonde hair and told me to go back home and I was trying to get acclamated with my husband working for the government on Fort Shafter. The natives there were absolutely brutal to me. I found a Lutheran church on the other side of the island which was pretty tough to find. I joined a workout group on Ford Island which was nice and the ladies were really friendly and understood my situation with the unfriendlies. The island itself is absolutely stunning as long as you are not living there and only coming as a tourist then they are sweet as molasses!! Mahalo!!🙏🤙🌴
