i used to watch surfing videos and be like... "doesnt look that bad its water". But now that I surf and know that even a 3-5 foot wave is kinda powerful. I cant imagine surfing big waves like that.
Jadi same I’m 22 and been surfing for almost 10 years and I think they are kinda powerful but these this. This is a different story
Ya, I shat when I first rode on north shore oahu. Only rode North Cali before. Seriously a 2 ft Hawaiian wave can snap you.
Way different than the pictures. Went to duck dive at pipeline and my nose hit the reef
We moved to Maui in '84; (Laird was just starting tow-surfing behind Zodiacs at Log Cabins.) The first thing you notice is the speed and volume and ferocity of wipeouts on even small waves because there's no continental shelf like Cali.
These slabs look beyond terrifying.
pfft 3-5 foot is nothing how about try 10-20 foot
I had a wipeout on a ~5ft wave when I was a kid that made me lose my sense of direction of up and down for about 5 seconds, which felt like an eternity at the time, and since then gained a very serious respect for the power of the ocean. I can't even begin to imagine what this stuff might feel like.
@The Highlight Channel bro the waves r heavy asf they hold u down trust me
I can't imagine how horrible it must feel to be spun, flipped and nearly killed by waves that big! So much respect for these guys!
1:43 is terrifying. Never ever. Thank you
Ya, that hole kept getting bigger for a over the falls trick
it looks like a black hole
what do you mean
They're like 40ft below water when they wipeout. Terrifying.
I wiped out in 3 foot waves at Croyde Bay and thought I was going to die. I can't imagine this shit.
+WeylandYutani agree 100% with you . Imagine getting caught inside on this waves . worst than a wipout ,
I love to boogie board but I only got like tiny wave insept a storm ruled through I go to the beach and the waves were really big compared to me I was about to catch a wave FYI I could see the wave curling over me then BOOM I ALMOST DIED ok maybe I didn't but I felt like it lol
Yea that must really suck to get under one of those waves
I am not sure if I should be home by now but I'll be back in a few weeks and we can talk tomorrow if that works with your mom and I are looking for the best but I???
Damn, and at the beach I cry if I stub my toe on a shell
1:35 hahaha "ya know you can drown out there"
Big wave surfers are insane. But we love watching you! Stay safe.
The key is living to smile about it..........well done boys!
Mad respect for all these surfers.
Mate I absolutely shit myself in like 6 foot waves haha. Can’t even imagine this...
massive respect to all in this video
All respect to these guys! Wow just wow! Shoulder dislocation “not such a bad one”.
Lovely. My motivation to learn how to surf!!
Omfg this makes me wanna never surf again
Could you please check out my channel for maybe a sub.
Thom Limburg Makes me wanna surf more haha! Wiping out is a hell of a adrenaline rush.
Just surf small waves lol... theyre more fun anyways cause you can do more than just go in a straight line
There like really far out that’s why there’s Jetske’s in a lot of them
Yeah but they are big wave surfing not 3 4 foot
My sinuses got packed with salt water just watching this.
A friend of mine went over the falls on the first of a big powerful 11' set and was held under by ALL SIX WAVES. He popped up in shallow water with all his breath already exhaled and hauled air in for an age sounding like an elephant trumpeting. I'm so glad he made it because when he saw him go over I paddled in after him looking for him because I thought he was gonna drown.
I had this wipeout in Cloud9. My board stuck between my legs. It hit me right there. So painful that i cant hold my breath anymore. And theres a set of waves coming. The third and biggest wave almost toke my life. I had this final surface and one last breath. Still lucky. Lesson learned. Never understimate the power of waves. One Love!
That’s why I prefer to stay on the beach and watch.
i surfed in france and i fell from a wave like 2.5 meters and i was stuk and i was thinking im gona die i qas like for 10 seconds under the water and it cost so much energy like spining in the water ...if i look to this shit is can't believe the are still alive
@The Highlight Channel is france was also salt water. But is doesnt help alot
Amazing!!!
was good to see ya down there
Oh the goosebumps!!
I got pitched at pretty big west swell sunset and landed right on my back and it knocked the breath out of me. then the whole ocean came down on top of me. got fucking worked through the impact zone over by boneyards. finally made it to shore and laid on the beach breathing for an hour. respect the ocean, and mother nature, or she'll snatch you in the wink of a pretty girls eye.
That's no joke! I rode one of the biggest waves I've ever ridden in Costa Rica. And got worked, in comparison to the waves in the video I rode a tiny wave. But getting the air knocked out of you, or swallowing water and being stuck in the impact zone is scary as hell!
Woow!!! Aloha from Brazil!!!
Sick vids duudes 🤙🏼
that last one was EPIC
I've never done that but I wouldn't be scared . I love waves
Nothing compared to this, but this summer I was surfing in OCMD and I was out in the water and there was a 6 footer coming at me. I knew I didn’t want to take it so I went to paddle over it. Just so you know, I’m 15, 90 pounds, and 5’2, and I had a longboard so I physically couldn’t duck dive under the wave. Anyway, I thought I was gonna make it over but the ocean had other plans. It flipped me and my board just as I was about to get over the top and I started falling backwards. My board came back and hit my nose (which broke) and I was stuck underwater for a few seconds with a headache and a bloody nose. It’s so scary when you have no control over your body and your just flailing in the water trying to keep everything in so you don’t break anything else. To make everything better (or worse) I was surfing in low tide because you’re on,y allowed to surf before 10 or something so I was dangerously close to the bottom. Anyway I came up perfectly fine except for my nose which healed in a few weeks because it wasn’t too bad. I kept surfing though even when I was supposed to “lay low with physical activity “ lol. A similar thing also happened to my friend but he sliced his stomach with his fiberglass fin when he wiped out.
Good memories 😎🤙🏽🏄🏼♀️
Respect.
Respect!
Fark!!! Epic stacks!!! Those blokes got guts and some massive balls!
They are the only ones who know how does it feel like inside of washing machine.
keep the good work in 2013!
Droppin in!
Any tips on surviving things like this? Like what do you do when you're getting thrown around like that? Do you try to swim up, just lay there? What do you guys do? Trying to get into surfing, obviously I'll start way smaller than this but just in case I get caught in a tricky situation I wanna know what you guys do.
just in caAAAAaase
Ik nothing about surfing, but if you are standing in front of a wave when it is straight up and about to break, dive in,a second late and you get sucked under
Not many you can do except hold your breath and get your hands above your head when you surface
If your wiping out, face your butt to the water, acts like a cushion, make your body relaxed and spread your body out. Stay calm, once you start panicking you lose your breathe. Ik I'm just 15, but i've been surfing spots like pipeline, sandys, and makapuu for years.
thanks
That shipsterns wipe out at the end is terrifying.
Damn, glad you guys are here to talk about it. I can't imagine getting nailed by anything over 8 to 10 feet but this! No way, I'll sit my sorry ass on the beach....... again.
1:48 - Bye Mom!
Hehe lol 😎 🤙🏻
Mannn these are crazy
That's pretty neat
Props to those with the best shots of them wiping out. Cameramen 🤙
legends
"Bad Posi", love it.
over the falls at 3.20 that is seriously seriously sick!
3:00 Grant Twiggy Baker going over the falls and you can see his little speck of a body going for the ride. He probably made a complete 360 degree rotation in that wave. Fell on the face, over the falls and back to the same position where he started in the white wash.
lol they should make a "fail of the season" video xDDD some hilarious spills out there xD
Getting dumped by the very regular waves at any given beach as a once every few years bodysurfer is pretty damn brutal.. i can't even conseptualise what its like when you scale up to these waves.
You should see the rollers in Texas. When one of them bad ass container ships cruise by we get towed into some three foot curlers for days. Heathcoat McGuilicutty.
Deadass this is my biggest nightmare. I would rather see a tornado outside my window
The waves are beautiful, I want to see what it feels like to surf a big wave or get smashed by one
@Peter94686.- Hilarious spills? You obviously have never surfed mate. Even a 3ft grungy wave can work someone ove. My limit was about 12 ft, and that was scary. But Shipsterns, Teahupou,. Mavericks, etc. That's life and death! Fun to some but even Kelly Slater said " Anyone who isn't scared of teahpou at 8ft is crazy".
I had my steamer stipped of me at 10 ft 'Caves' at Cactus. It didn't worry me, but no way would i have the balls to surf these Death waves. Fun for me is 6-8 ft. Fun to others is mental. Glad to watch though.
Thanks hashpotato for the friend reply.
Hashpotato, lol good one. Sorry it took so long for it to sink in.. Have a good day.
bidnext k
all Noble
Yeah mate I remember when I was about 12 and still learning I would get pulled under by 3-4ft waves and it sucked. I can't imagine these huge waves.
same I agree
I got hit so hard by a 6ft wave and almost died😂😂
Damn where’d you surf
Had my fair share with those down here on Oahu up North during winter swell... and let me tell you airdropping like that gotta be one of the most helpless and shittiest feeling lmao
Holy Shit
gnarly
woahhhhhhhhhhhhhh GNARLY
Scary shit.
I have eaten it a few times on big waves and if you panic your chances of drowning are very real.
Thats crazy
The fall is bad enough but that's only the beginning!
greatest wipe out ever braddah Jay at Mavericks....priceless RIP my braddah much aloha
Don't know how some of these guys are still alive!
:42 haha perfect description
0:39 antena de tubarão.
Some heavy ones there...
Glad to see I'm not the only sucker who's gone over da Falls. Ha Ha !!
That's gotta be scary not knowing if you'll ever breathe air again after getting the wind knocked out of you. Good thing you're buzz numb all over from the first slam or it would really hurt.
見てるだけで泣きそう…
🇧🇷 👍
São Paulo/ Itaquera. 2018
que guay
I wiped out on a 15 footer in Mexico, it was quite peaceful when the sand settled...
When the waves are literally above my head they are also figuratively above my head.
Cover your head and relax. Just think happy thoughts.
These guys can all hold there breaths for 4-5 minutes plus. Just when the force impacts your stomach and knocks the wind out of you as your gasping for that calm cool breath, thats what causes the deaths. That and entrapment under water. But these big wave surfers are so fit, show no panic and hold there breaths so long.
Lovely sea 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
the seven dislikes on this video are seven of the surfers featured in this video.
Justin Paling why?
insane
If you wipe out when the wave is going over you do you get sucked under and get thrown down with the lip?
should have a go pro camera on one of these wipeouts
You should of seen mine mine I was like a crum to it I loved it as a memory now
ouch... and then some.
It does if they all disliked it so much that they made extra accounts and disliked it twice each.
Como sobreviven a eso? alguien me lo explica?
its not that the water 'knocks it out of them' if anything it would just knock out carbon dioxide.
just when you panic all of your muscles 'eat up' all of the oxygen in your lungs. But you are also right in the fact that the pressure acting on their body would cause their muscles to tense up and hence same process. Thats why they all say they just try and relax.
TIGHT
It's all what your use to until something allot bigger gets you... respect to these chargers
I live on fistral and it can produce 20 to 30 ft waves but I on board 8ft and that’s scary enough
I'm still freaked out by 6 foot waves, when I look at this vid I just think; "THIS IS FUCKED!'
just gotta be respectful towards the ocean.. glad all of them survived
1:43
That thumbnail photo isn't a wave, it's a giant hole that opens up in the ocean letting show the nice reef bottom.
" Death Bowl ".
you really havnt lived until youve survived a wipeout like any of these!
Is Shipstern's heavier than Teahupoo?
if the wave lip hits your back and its big enough will it break it
Dude there was a wave almost twice as big as me and I got wipe out and it felt like hell my nose started bleading
r.i.p. fellas.
Der Wahnsinn !!!
Waldfuchs440 Deutsche !🤗🤗
The ocean is unforgiving. HOWEVER the feeling you get while surfing is worth the risk in my opinion. WHEW-WEE!
