  • Jay sits down with composer, performer, recording artist, music lecturer and piano teacher Sally Greenaway to discuss Yamaha's versatile U1 model, with an emphasis on the Indonesian built U1J.
Among other things they discuss what this piano can offer pianist and performers of diverse levels in terms of touch and sound, and the many environments to which it would suited. Sally also touches on the debate of digital vs acoustic, and performs some exquisite music composed by herself and others.

"We're trying to create good technique; and through good technique you then create great sound; and through creating great sound you then make great music - an you connect with music. And that's what it's all about: is being able to communicate musicaly and having that feeling that you get when you play music". - Absolutely perfect. She synthesized the music experience in one direct shot. Amazing. Cheers.

This Yamaha U1J has different legs connecting to the toe boards. Is this a special order? I have not seen this style of legs before on a new U1J.

The U1J has a Fiberboard/Particle wood and laminated plywood cabinet while the Japanese U1 has a Solid wood cabinet which makes sound resonates differently which causes a difference in the sound....I hear the U1J sound is dull and muffled some would call it muddy...Sadly these are sold in some countries for the Japanese made Price.

I have just tested both today. They sound completely different. Have earlier on considered to get the U1J, which is SGD 4000 cheaper here in Singapore, but i totally drop the ideal now. Will be getting used U1 instead.
