I like the stereo version of the TV-am sunrise intro music and Good Morning Britain theme

3:44 - They never bothered to really change the opening title sequence in a decade on air. Same opening titles used. BBC went through two versions of BBC Breakfast Time and one version of BBC Breakfast News titles before they reached 1992.

It was starting to look dated even by the end of the 80's, as I recall. An iconic sequence, but nothing is forever. And I wonder if a franchise renewal would have seen Bruce Gyngell dip into his pocket to refresh the look? I think the set needed a rework too, this one was never as good as the original. It looked cheaper and lost any sense of depth.

TV-am had closed their in house news service on Jan 31st 1992, Sky News took over news production from Feb 1st 1992.

@Gavin Martin TV-am paid Sky News £500,000 in 1992 to produce their news quota from Feb 1st to Dec 31st 1992. A bargain for Rupert Murdoch's Sky News.

@Gavin Martin I understand why it was all done, but it wasn’t great from a branding point of view (although of course today’s breakfast reporters on ITV sign-off with ‘(name), Good Morning Britain’ rather than ‘(name), ITV News’

TV-am had a huge problem in their final year 1992. There was always going to be a general election, and TV-am had to cover it. The closure of their news service on Feb 1st caused problems, they had to spend more money than planned on journalists covering the election, along with the help of Sky News. Bruce Gyngell MD of TV-am hated spending more than he needed to on news.

John Smith - the best Prime Minister this country never had. If John Smith was leader in 1992, Labour would have won, possibly with the same 21 seat majority John Major won with in 1992.

So sad that he never got the chance due to his tragic death just two years later.
