Hi Jim, thanks for watching and commenting. I'd love to have an original stock Iron Eagle, but the 18 hp V-twin is a blast and I'm spoiled by the electric starter. The motor is basically stock. ...and it's plenty fast for me!
thanks Jeff. I have to carry on for my dad who had a Cushman many many years ago. sadly dad isn't around now to try mine, but I'm sure he's watching me.
+James haury It's a lot of fun to ride. Since this video, I added a hydraulic disc brake to rear and a Vapor digital speedo. A buddy had it up to 71. Not me, 45 is plenty fast.
hi Jeff, just saw the two comments now ...1 year later. thanks CZcams! I had a 62 Highlander with an 8 hp Husky. I love the sound of the old flathead but I get tired of "kicking vigorously" to start it. LOL decided I had to have an electric starter and no oil dripping on the floor. that being stated, I love the old original Eagles.
@JMBtimes2 LOL ...trust me, once you ride a Cushman you will have to get a Cushman! I never understood why people get into these old machines, now I know. Thanks for the reminder on the tape, I've done that too.
Very nice conversion. I've haven't seen many springer Vangaurds and this is really a nice one. I'll bet she's really fast too. You should think about joining our club. We have many out of state members.
Very Very Nice, Linda wants to trade in her 69 Roadster now, She's really jealous about the electric start! lol Great sounding bike, 18hp now I'm jealous!!
@edzgarage Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching and posting a comment. Yes, my neighbor was being funny. He's a good friend and likes to walk over to see what I'm working on.
@coffeefish thank you for always watching my new videos right away, and being the first comment! this short clip doesn't begin to show how much fun that machine is to ride, and it's plenty fast too. I normally don't speed down the street with anything but I couldn't resist the temptation for the video.
chatrkat I can just imagine man! I never ever knew these bikes existed till I saw this clip a week ago. Now I want one so bad! Coz there's nothin like this here New Zealand.
Hello This is my first response to a video on here. I clicked on your video because it was a spring eagle. My dad has a 1958 iron eagle we are restoring & I just sealed the deal on a 1954 spring eagle. I truly like a stock bike but your bike runs & SOUNDS awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that a stock cam in that vangaurd?????? Anyhow your video brought a smile to my face!! I hope you enjoy it!!!! JIM
I have an original 1957 Eagle that has been restored twice. I still have the cast Iron engine but am considering the Vanguard conversion if it finally gives out. Many in the Cushman owners group have done so. Enjoy.
I like the Vanguard set up and it's certainly fast, but my true love is still the original 8 hp Husky and two speed on my 1958 Eagle. ...see the video I recently uploaded.
got a M9 w/ a Mikuni on my 62 Highlander, it runs just fine. the upgraded Eagle has spoiled me with how easy it starts but I still love the original Husky motors. ...more videos coming! thanks for watching.
@sixaxle Portland IN? I hope so, you'll love it! There's lots to see and miles of country roads to ride on. I had my Highlander out there in 2011 for the first time. Can't wait to take the Eagle out there this year. ... The carriers did a nice job all the way through, I'd use them again.
NICE BIKE...... I'M KIND OF A HUSKY GUY.. I HAVE A 61 CAST IRON WITH A MICUNI ON IT.. IT'S LOADED WINDSHIELD YOU NAME IT.. I JUST LIKE KEEPING IT REAL.. BUT YOUR VANDY SOUNDS NICE... JEFF
I KNOW THE FEELING.. I WOULD STAY WITH MY GRAN DAD AND GRAND MAW ,, LOT'S WHEN I WAS A GROWING UP IN IL. AND ON MARSHALL AVE. ON EACH SIDE OF MY GRANDPARENT'S.. WAS A BIKE DEALER ....ON ONE SIDE WAS ( MR. OAKLEY THE TOWN CUSHMAN DEALER.) ( AND ON THE OTHER SIDE WAS ) ( HARLOW GRIFFITH.. THE TOWN ,,B.S.A. NORTON,, MOTO GUZZIE,, TRIUMPH,, AND HE HAD OLD HARLEYS.. A SETTING AROUND EVERYWHERE .... I HAD THEM ALL ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.. SEPT FOR THE CUSHMAN... IT ONLY TOOK 50 YEARS.. JEFF..
Great video, thanks for posting this. Those old Cushman's are trick! BTW, What happened to the engine shroud? It was red in the beginning of the video.
+GuitarGuys7299 LOL ...you're the first person to ask, good question too. The first segment was made the day it arrived. Later I had bought a used black one you see in the segment recorded a couple months later. Pay attention to the tail light when the shroud changes. Thanks for commenting, also see the video of my 1958 recorded a couple years later.
are these registered as scooters or motorcycles? how much do you think a basic cushman with some restoration work would cost me? bad ass bikes. I WANT ONE! :)

thanks for a putting it on you-tube.. any cushman is a good cushman...!! jeff
Woah, now that's what I call vintage!
Woa! thats a grat v-twin setup!! Lucky guy!!
thanks!
That brings back memories from more than half a century ago.
+Wiley Hamby the new stuff does not interest me, but I will accept some new engineering mixed with old mechanics.
Very beautiful bike, the V2 and the torque converter seem to fit like a glove, very nice sound, looks like it has great torque too!

I like where they painted the bottom of the air cleaner element black.
That shows real attention to detail.

Picked up my Eagle tonight. We thought it was a 54 but when he dug out the title it was a 52. It does have the 8 horse motor on it. She's rough!

@sixaxle Hi Lee, thanks very much. Appreciate the invite, I'll check you guys out. Do you make it to Portland IN in July? Keith
SWEET!
@timetravel21217 you got it! ...but you have to share the seat with Mac.
Hey that bike sounds like the real thing
I have one of these in my garage, and it needs work.
sorry for the slow reply. is this something you want to ride or sell?
sounds great, in spite of the roughness. you going to make a video of it?
Great video, thanks for posting this. Those old Cushman's are trick!

I just watched it again and noticed the tail light was changed out for an O.E.M. style.
Very cool.
yes, good eye there. the machine has undergone a few corrections & upgrades since it was purchased. check out the newest video uploaded July 2017
awesome.
Beautiful bike! Is that your neighbor shouting "Hot-Rod!" at you @ 2:31? Lol
good eye!
Sure is nice! Did the neighbor call you "hot rod" in fun?
Nice! Enjoy
Thanks man! It's fun to ride, but the old school 2 speed Eagles are equally as much fun.
@timetravel21217 naa, he's too busy with the kittens to worry about scooters.
are these registered as scooters or motorcycles? how much do you think a basic cushman with some restoration work would cost me? bad ass bikes. I WANT ONE! :)
in IL they are the same as a small motorcycle. it's a gray area how you actually title them.
@Sharkie626 ...with some improvements!
lucky dog
Does that Vanguard have heavier valve springs so it will go 6000 rpm?
+douro20 no., stock motor but I did play with the factory carb a little. stock jetting a little lean for my liking.
Where can I get one
eBay and Craig's list are good places to start looking. the better machines can easily bring $ 5k
And what do they cost
@timbuctwo1 Thank you and yes quite fast. I am interested, send a private msg with the club info.
how much did you pay?
are these street legal
yes, far as I know in all states.
