Carp fishermen have a cast called the "overhead thump" they use for their long rods. Very similar to this technique, only they stretch their arms up high at the start and focus on pulling down with their left/bottom hand to increase the power.

Exactly 💯..! I swing 11' and 12' heavers w/ conventional reels in the surf ... I'm an old school surf fisherman ... lures only and no spinners, no bait...
I see so many guys cast at the beach and they don't about pulling instead of pushing,... especially with a spinner .. there's absolutely no way you're going to get the distance you want from a spinner as you would with a multiplier

I’ve been surf fishing in Santa Rosa beach for the past two years. This was the most helpful tutorial I have seen! I put it into use this morning for 5 pomps! Thanks!

Thanks, I’ve always wondered what was the best way to cast to get further distance. I’ll give it a try Sunday @ Perdido Beach early in the morning, thanks again.

I thought I was getting good distance until I saw this tutorial. Now I get at least 15 more yards per cast, sometimes even more. Thanks for the tips.

    Great Casting!!!
However, I have a great tip for you:
Give yourself more line to work with.
By doing this, you generate more speed and the rod bends more when you cast.
I like to have my weight/lure hanging between my last and second last rod eye.
Im from South Africa and can easily cast over 150 yards with a 12ft rod and 3oz lead using this technique.
