    Gillian Anderson really got Thatcher's mannerisms down cold, she seemed like the real deal. You couldn't help but pity her after her disastrous visit to Balmoral.

      She was trying so hard for the voice , that she made Thatcher into a caricature. Worse , she slowed her voice down Unnaturally. Steve Nallon from Spitting Image would have done better

      Anderson's performance as Thatcher was actually really bad. Really bad. Which is odd because I think she must be a good actress. But the voice, the mannerism, the gestures... she portrayed it as she probably would have been like a few months before she passed away lol. It felt like a deliberate, over the top caricature.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679 Před 4 měsíci +6

      @frname7665 I agree in terms of her being portrayed as more of an older Thatcher, although I've always though Gillian Anderson is an incredibly talented and versatile actor and she still did an excellent job. It may be that she was specifically asked to portray her in that manner throughout. I do think she was more energetic in the early episodes and portrayed a more worn-down Thatcher in the final episode.

      @@davidostrowski679 Clearly if the character wasn't Thatcher I would have thought her performance remarkable. She is clearly skilled. But yeah the portrayal was absolutely off.

    What let me down mostly the last two seasons is the lack of focus on the Crown itself and proper portrayal of the PMs. Early seasons let them have their own episodes and the final season barely let them on screen.

      I agree...I think the Crown was at its best depicting the political issues of each generation and the various issues facing Elizabeth during her long years of rule...but all that took a backseat once they reached the Diana part of the story haha :l

    • @erminareyaz3093
      @erminareyaz3093 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Exactly, the thing I loved about The Crown was it's portrayal of British politics. Season 2- Season 4 were splendid. I think that is what made the show interesting and added depth and complexity to it- the portrayal of the monarchy in the larger backdrop of the country's politics. Season 5 was fine & 6 took a huge backseat, it focussed too much on Diana and young William and Kate's relationship. It didn't maintain the balance between politics and the personal lives of the Royal Family members in the manner that the previous seasons did.

Don't forget the British Empire used Australia as a prison island sending desperate poor people (convicts) that stole loaves of bread to try to survive because the monarchy had all the wealth. Not to mention they attempted genocide of the original Australians.

      She was a queen. She thought she was more important than anyone and should be the favourite of the british people. Because that's how monarchs feel: superior, unaware that they are only humans like us, made of flesh, bone and blood and that will die slow and painfully in a hospital bed. But until that moment reaches they want to feel like demi gods, or protagonist of a fairy tale.

      This is fictionalized. There is no record of how she really felt about any of her prime ministers (at least spoken words). You certainly can infer things based on things that occurred. For example, she attended both Churchill's and Thatcher's funerals. That would seem to indicate she at least had respect for them.
