It's weird to me that giannis wasn't allowed to win his 3rd mvp cos he hadn't won a chip yet and cos of voter fatigue. But here's jokic close to winning another when 2 guys have been way better than him this year, and nobody is talking about voter fatigue. People literally make up voter fatigue as a reason not to vote. That's illogical.
If you really think about it, voter fatigue has never really existed ever since the media started voting for the league MVP. There have been a couple of times since something like this has happened. 1983 Moses Malone, and 2012 LeBron James both won their 3rd league MVPs before winning a championship.
That's just not true, Jokic was more efficient (31.3 PER v.s. 29.2 PER, 64.7% TS% v.s. 63.3% TS%), played more games and minutes (72/72 games vs 61/72 games, 2488 minutes vs 2013 minutes), had more WS/48(.301 vs .244), a better BPM(12.1 vs 9.0), a higher Value over replacement (8.8 vs 5.6), and is even better in DBPM (3.0 vs 2.8), a measurement that literally evaluates their defense, which is what Giannis is known to be good at. The only stat where Giannis have an advantage is in on-off, where his team outscores the opponent on an average of 6.7 points compare to the Nuggets and Jokic only outscoring team by 6.4 points when he's on the court, but the difference here is minimal and is easily outweighted by other stats (Especially considering it's a very noisy stat that's heavily affected by teammate quality). Obviously stats like DBPM is noisy and by no means is Jokic the better defender, but not only did Jokic absolutely dominate every single advanced category, for casuals who don't really dig into advanced metrics, he averaged 26/11/8 on 57/39/87 as well. That is just as impressive as Giannis' 28/11/6 on 57/30/67. Denver won 65.3% (47/72) of the games while Milwaukee won 65.5%(40/61) in their 61 games with Giannis, basically the same exact wins. When Jokic is better in advanced stats while being just as good in basic box scores and the exact same team record, how could Giannis be robbed of the MVP? (Don't even mention playoffs, the MVP is a regular season award)

The fact is, giannis was discounted from the mvp race from day 1 just because he was reigning 2 time mvp. Jokic wasn't, even though he has struggled in the playoffs just like giannis, which was a major reason giannis was discounted despite it being a regular season award. Jokic was great that season, and no doubt he was 1st or 2nd that year, but my argument is why is giannis treated differently and held to a higher standard?

Last year's mvp voting was also the worst it's been in a long time. MVP no longer became about the most impressive player on a premier team, showcasing individual dominance and leading a winning franchise simultaneously like its been for its entire history until recent circus seasons. Having injured teammates became criteria last season, when every team every season deals with injuries one way or the other. It's hard to objectively gage the talent or potential of a player's teammates at any given time, so convoluting the mvp race and the award to something more than a player having a dream season will just devolve this historically prestigious award. And many people, including me, have already started viewing the mvp award as less valuable in recent seasons. Dominant stats on a dominant team. That's the dream. That's it.

Most envied player of all time, I stand on that belief. You'll notice any opportunity to discredit him, and later the media and even other players/retired players pounce on him. Other players from all corners are praised for their game and flashes of consistency, but even Giannis' decorated accolades can not protect him from the constant simplification and criticism of his playstyle. He's owning the greatest basketball league on the planet, showing out for GREECE, and at the same time the Freak "doesn't know the game of basketball" (Arenas). All the little things, before the start of every season Giannis is always hovering outside top 3 in Vegas MVP odds, but ends up at the center of the MVP conversation every year. The point that Jokic and Embiid are playing the best basketball of their lives and Giannis is either playing average/or regress yet statistically hes either playing at the same or even better just means Giannis is better. People are so used to seeing Giannis get 2k numbers and when he dont, it feels like he has regress. That just tells you how great he has become and how much better he is compare to the other two. exactly, these "analysts" can't observe he has more responsibility to create shots for himself and others without Middleton, and doesn't get fed as much, and his FG% will almost inevitably go down. However, he has still been overall efficient in the midst of the league and MVP candidates even though his standards for efficient can grow much higher with a healthier team. What they need to be focused on is the results of him adapting his game, and taking that extra responsibility, and that's his play keeping this team dominant all year.

There's plenty of times where players drop 40, 50 and 60 points this season and it doesn't get that much coverage. It's almost like we're desensitized to players who have great games. I think the reason Giannis has "regressed" (Not necessarily regressing, just not having the best year of his life) is because of efficiency. The argument for Giannis being the best player relies on his great defense and dominant inside offense, and the case for him to be insanely dominant offensively is based on him driving, dunking with ease, at high volume and at high efficiency. While the first two still remains true, the third one hasn't been so far. He's shooting 59.6% TS%, which is good don't get me wrong, but it simply isn't impressive. That's +1.7% comparing to the league average of 57.9%, but other first options on decent teams like Luka (+3.4%), Dame (+6.7%), Durant (+9.4%), Steph (+8.6%), Embiid (+6.4%), Jokic (+12.5%), Anthony Davis (+6.7%), Tatum (+3%), Butler (+4.2%), Zion (+7.3%), Mitchell (+3.4%), SGA (+4.3%), DeRozan (+2.2%), Bradley Beal (+2.9%), Haliburton (+2.8%), Sabonis (+8.9%), Kawhi (+1.8%), PG13 (+1.8%) and Lauri Markkenen (+8.8%) and the only other first options with worse effeciency is LeBron (+0.7%), Anthony Edwards (-0.8%), Siakam (-2%), Booker (+0.6%) Ja (-2.1%), Brunson (+0.1), Trae (-1.2%). So he's basically in the 26th percentile in terms of effeciency amongst first options, and that's really poor. You can say well Middleton is out, but frankly I don't think that's an excuse. If you are the best player in the world you should be able to create your own efficient offense without the help of a lot of teammates. Jokic did that last year, Luka is doing it this year, and Steph did it two years prior. It's Giannis'turn now, but he hasn't quite delivered.
