I remember every one of these drivers from either South Side Speedway to Langley to South Boston. Thanks for posting this. A lot of memories came rushing back going to these tracks with my dad and grand dad

My stepdad built the cars for Bobby Cox #71 back then. Todd Taylor was awesome at Southside Speedway. Wow does this bring back memories! Thanks for posting!

This old Richmond track made for better racing then the new fancy track of today. Bigger isn't always better.

These were the best days of the LMSC division! Every track had more than enough good cars to fill the field. Spent a lot of Saturday nights at caraway speedway during those years, and I remember many nights when you had to qualify good or you wouldn’t make the field, and go home!

yeah..I got to be in the pits a lot during those days...especially from 85-87...Elton Sawyer's brother, Roger built our team's Grand Stock car in Chesapeake...and it was bad fast off the rack..so much fun back then...and I agree..best looking stock cars ever...from the LMS series in late 70s to around 1988-89...when they got away from the sheet metal and the cutaway wheel wells with the tires sticking out of the side...after that there were hardly any of my favorite snacks anýmore... 'Door Donuts'...haha

Markham and Sawyer are the only names I recognize. I remember watching them in Busch races back in the 1990s.

The first time I ever saw Curtis (Bubba) Markham and Danny Fair race was at the long gone Old Dominion Speedway in 1984. They both always ran well! What always sticks in my mind about that first night was a hater a couple rows behind me that yelled “you ain’t no winner Bubba!” nearly every lap as his car passed! Practice, qualifying, race, didn’t matter! When the checkers flew and they handed the flag to the winner, this guy was still yelling “you ain’t no winner Bubba!”. Did I mention that “Bubba” was the winner? I was surprised when Curtis went into the crew chief route in cup instead of driving! Think he did a pretty good job of chiefing too! Can’t be sure, but I think he worked with Joe Gibbs.

Bubba Markham was good everywhere..he was one of those guys like Tommy Ellis Butch Lindley and Sonny Hutchins, that would come off the truck good...helluva racer...I could name half the field here...Elton Sawyer Bubba Adams, Phil Warren and Sid Carmines...and quite a few others that ran at my home track every Saturday night,...Langley Speedway

@@gregminter6393 I still can’t believe Southside Speedway is history! That, Langley and Old Dominion we’re all places that I imagined would be around forever, but two of the three are just a memory now!

@@tomt9543 Tom T...I know right?...and Langley almost went under b4 those did in 2016...when they didnt run the whole season...luckily Bill Mullis put it on his shoulders and got it back up...but I've recently watched some of the weekly events online..and other than the extra distance races..the attendance looked poor...it may have just been camera angles but back in our day it was almost full stands even on the regular feature weeks...I dont know how its happened but it seems that interest is falling in sport...I've moved to Georgia and worked on a couple teams at Lanier & Peachstate Speedways .same deal here..both tracks are shut down except for rentals, gokart races and drift events..peachstate closed and reopened as Greshman motorsports park, but it is closed temporarily if not dead again..and there are 2 dirt tracks I've been going to for last few years, they are likely dead now..Dixie Speedway(Bill Elliott's home track) and Rome speedway...sad state of Saturday night racing, I'm afraid..but hey, I'm a glass half full guy..hopefully that will do a 180..fingers r crossed🏁🏁

@@gregminter6393 I watched a recap of a CARS Pro late model race from Caraway Speedway on CZcams the other night. I think that race was run last weekend. It just blew me away how empty the stands were! Same thing with the modified’s last fall for the North South Shootout at Caraway. 20 years ago, when the mods ran there, they’d sell the place out, and that was even with the promoter jacking up the ticket prices for those events! Concord speedway, Myrtle Beach Speedway, Metrolina Speedway are all gone, and 311 Speedway has been on life support for years! Every season is a question mark over whether or not they’ll open. The one place that always packs them in to this day is Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem, NC! I guess it’s an era who’s time has passed, but it sure left me with some great memories!

@@tomt9543 Tom T...cant put finger on any one reason...I know I strongly disliked each weekly program adding so many divisions, although I'd even drive one til this day, I hated the addition of Legends cars, especially when i was involved on a race team....cuz they would just take the air out of the whole night.. a pro class and a rookie class with features, plus countless heat races...with yellow no-count laps...I worked with super late model teams at Lanier Raceway, and by the time we'd start our feature itd be after 10pm sometimes..after you show up at noon or earlier sometimes to get your 'garage area' set up and get car ready..you're damn near exhausted..and watching those legends classes take up 2 hrs of the night..you're just ready to get it over with..dont get me wrong...I am a fan of any division of stock car racing at any level, 4bangers, street, pure and grand stock...limited...still cant get enough...but those legends add soooooo much time...it gets boring, and aggravating at times...people in the stands would leave b4 main event...they'd just get tired of waiting..I'd sleep in the back of trailer til the race b4 ours sometimes
