So fun fact - Twin Headed Behemoth is limited not due to the power level of the card but due to rulings issues. Because the original text of the card is supposed to be once per duel per copy, but it’s impossible to track which copy has used the effect if it gets shuffled back by something like an Avarice, they limited the card to avoid the rulings headache. It would come off the ban list eventually with a hard once per duel errata to make the card always function as intended, although I believe this was after the card’s time of playability had come and gone.
Yeah, it's one of those cards that got hit, not because it was too playable, but because it was too much nonsense to deal with for a card that wasn't really worth playing in most decks.
If one could fix the tracking issues, I'd like to see it at full strength unlimited.
How about deliberately have it resleeved in a different color and let it be okay for it to no longer be a hidden card after it needs to be tracked?

Harpie player was really ahead of his time. Nobody else was running lightning storm in the side.

He's been playing too much Master Duels, all confused
Harpie Queen had 1900 atk on top of being a field searcher because every field searcher of that era got 2100 atk total WITH their field (Warrior of Atlantis, Harpie Queen, Gravekeeper's Comandant...) Those whose field did not give an attack boost (Pandemonium with Archfiend General) weren't allowed to even stay on the field if the field spell was not present because they had 2100 atk as a baseline.
Wow, that's actually a really interesting thing for Konami to keep consistent across the board at the time.

Archfiend General (2100) -> Pandemonium
Destroyersaurus (1800) -> Jurassic World (300)
Elemental HERO Captain Gold (2100) -> Skyscraper
Gravekeeper's Commandant (1600) -> Necrovalley (500)
Harpie Queen (1900) -> Harpie's Hunting Ground (200)
Warrior of Atlantis (1900) -> A Legendary Ocean (200)
Zeradias, Herald of Heaven (2100) -> Sanctuary in the Sky
Archfiend General, Captain Gold and Zeradias all blow up without the field.
After 2007, it wouldn't be until 2018 with Ahrima / Lair of Darkness that a monster could be discarded to search for a specific Field Spell.
No wonder the Harpie deck topped! It has Lightning Storm!!
You know this does remind me I had an idea where what would happen if you had the chance to play older formats but you get the chance to play one modern card (like BOSH and after)

@@Dunker401 Just play Eater of Millions in any deck from before the fusion deck became the extra deck. You could banish like 100 fusion monsters from your fusion deck for it and otk.

It is a recurring trend in the history of Yu-gi-oh that Harpies got absolutely broken cards... and no one cared enough.
Hunting Ground, a field spell that turns every summon into a MST
Hysteric Party, a Call of the Haunted for up to 5 monsters simultaneously
Channeler, an instant rank 4 or rank 7
Hysteric Sign, a card that searchs THREE cards of the archetype in the end phase if you pop it or discard it, including
-> Harpie's Feather Storm, a HANDTRAP that shuts down EVERY MONSTER EFFECT for a turn
And let's not forget the usual suspects like Icarus Attack and the wind Barrier Statue.
It's so weird to have so many cards with absolutely crazy effects under the same roof, for an archetype that seeemingly never took off competitively!
The only reason harpie couldn’t compete in the GX era is because you couldn’t play enough cards called “harpie lady”.
If you could run 3 cyber harpie AND harpie lady 1/2/3 it would be insanely strong, but that’s GX card design for you.
after feather storm came out they also topped 1 french event again, that card only really shined with lyriluscs though , harpy bricks too much compared to other decks, strong cards matter less when the deck sometimes just doesn't work, although monarchs & virtual worlds seemed to get away with that in their prime
I need to see a DAD format tournament with DAD banned. There are so many decks that it smothered to death, I think it would be really interesting to see them shine

In the synchro cat era I ran into someone that played Ben kei otk but with the synchro cat engine. He turboed into double power tool dragon instead of double dark strike fighter. That deck has NEVER left my mind. I hope the meme of Ben kei can live on one day as I quietly play it master duel

See, they've displayed a lot of types of cheating, but never before has anyone seen the type of cheating where Cimo literally went back in time from 2009 to play against a 2008 Cyberdark Deck.

I honestly think the history of Jank is more interesting then the meta. When there's a tier 0 deck that dominates everything the format is so boring. When there's legit decks that are so different, it's really fun.
GX era cards are weird. They were clearly worried about power creep and so they mega nerfed a lot of the effects from the show, but now even if they had their original effects they wouldn't be great. It's why we're getting whole supports cards like the Sacred beast structures and outright just new cyber darks.
I don't think printing bad archetypes was meant to avoid power creep. It was meant to market over the anime by printing cards that look overpowered to kids while they are actually pretty situational.
Also, just think about cyber dragons: they definitely power crept the game, thus it wasn't an issue apparently.
I'm glad they held on releasing cyber angels so they aren't just flame wingman but worse
Sacred Beasts may be trash but I ran Hamon in my True Draco deck during the Synchro Event in Master Duel and it won me so many games.

That was an unbelievable game 2; the Zane fan in me was absolutely ecstatic. And I'm pretty sure we all noticed that MBT banished the Five-Headed Dragon as fusion material and then summoned it from the banished zone because he didn't have a 2nd one in the extra deck

MBT had to fusion summon 2nd Five-Headed Dragon from the banish because the original list play only 1 of it and Cimo either didnt know or care. LMAO
When you get to the Xyz era where the Electrum OTK existed, one of you guys should play that. Now that is a JANK deck. One of y’all should play it in a future episode.
The strategy revolves around the fusion monster Elemental Hero Electrum, Fusion Gate, Chain Material and Gustav Max.
It just even sounds jank. Freaking E-HERO Electrum, a card that actually is better off in the trash, is actually played for a fairly competent OTK.

Tbh that Fusion Gate + Chain Material + Electrum combo turns ANY not HOPT burn card into an otk machine (gustav max and blaze fenix were the two best, but even good old cannon soldier does the trick, and even aero shark and flame spirit ignis)

CyDark Vs. Harpies is the most Duel Links thing ever.
Regarding Cyberdark protection - their much later field spell gives them protection from both effect destruction and effect targeting, as long as they have an equip. Just came way too late.
I really wanted to see MBT's face if cimoo accidently sided lightning storms.
Cimoo was playing harpies alright, in a deck that played like 3 and 20 traps
That's actually the biggest weakness of the Harpie deck. You're actually just not allowed to run more than that because the different Harpie Cards are *always* treated as Harpie Lady, so you ran into the issue of the 3 card per deck limit lmao

Cyberdark duelist here - so thrilled to see this deck make an appearance.
Harpies was my first pet decks. No matter what the meta is doing, I've always got a harpie deck ready. I'd love to see the later versions of Harpies played on any Cimo series. The rank 4 and 7 spam, and harpie artifacts are my favorite versions of the deck.

MBT’s deck is from the March 2007 format, while Cimo’s is from the March 2009 format. They basically did a cross-banlist episode.
After seeing Cimo's decklist, I was rooting for him. Not because the Harpies, but because the small burn package. Stealth Bird, Magic Cylinder, and Wave-Motion Cannon bring back some nostalgia since for the longest time back in the day I ran a casual burn deck

A cute thing that the lightning storms seen in side G2 may imply is the order of how these are filmed.
it would appear that the duel gets filmed first then the deck breakdown. The reasons to support this are the following
1. this situation where cimoo changes the storms to vortexes but still have storms during the duel. it would make sense if he realized that he got storms during siding and corrected in as part of the deck breakdown
2. at various instances throughout both HOJ and HOY, both players discuss lines of play in their deck breakdown and then make the realization of that same line of play during their duel. This wouldn’t make sense unless the discovered it during the duel to then be able to talk about it later in that deck breakdown.
for example mbt talks about future fusion into dragons mirror but then only realizes the deck plays mirror mid game. this means he only became aware of the play then to be able to talk about it afterwards. that or both players have the memory of an amoeba
He didn't realize that it played dragon's mirror mid-game, he knew going into it. He said "I didn't think this would come up" because he didn't think he would resolve both future fusion and dragon's mirror and as such didn't put a 2nd copy of five head that should have been in the extra deck.
You may be right about cimo recording his after the fact, but I am fairly sure MBT records his in advance

Joseph only had 1 Five-Headed dragon in ED, and just brought it back from the Banished pile with Dragons Mirror. Actual chet.
He said it himself at the time he didn't think to put 3 copies of each fusion in his deck because of that very situation, but in actuality he'd definitely have 3 copies, hence why he said he's doing something sketchy.

That Ring of Destruction which ended game 3 was illegal for two entire seperate reasons:
1. Straight-up can't target your own monster
2. The targeted monster can't have more attack than your opponent has life points

Damn, game 2 was FANTASTIC to watch! Love it when two players just throw everything in their deck at each other, exhausting all their resources, with tons of back and forth. Yugioh was truly better back then.

This was a very confusing episode, deck-wise. A lot of these cards were banned at the time and some of them didn’t even come out. Synchros in the ED? Cimo mentioned that these were “old decks” slightly adapted for newer formats. Not a fan of that change.
They basically had a deck from the March 2007 format go against a deck from the March 2009 format. Why they went for a cross banlist-type match here, I have no idea.

Indeed; unless it's Dark End Dragon and/or Light End Dragon (if you know you know), you shouldn't be using Synchros in a GX environment.
